Magnetic luminescent hybrid nanoparticles Fe3O4/BaMoO4:Dy3+ (MLHNPs) were successfully synthesized by the co-precipitation method using ethylene glycol. The MLHNPs are functionalized with β-cyclodextrin (CD) using 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APTES). The surface functionalization of nanoparticles and their conjugation have been confirmed via powder XRD, FTIR, HRTEM, and PL analyses.

Fluorescent dye labeling is a common strategy to analyze the fate of administered nanoparticles in living organisms. However, to which extent the labeling processes can alter the original nanoparticle biodistribution has been so far neglected. In this work, two widely used fluorescent dye molecules, namely, ATTO488 (ATTO) and Sulfo-Cy5 (S-Cy5), have been covalently attached to a well-characterized CXCR4-targeted self-assembling protein nanoparticle (known as T22-GFP-H6).

Forensic scientists must be able to recover traces of any original explosive materials not consumed in the detonation, in a careful controlled manner to aid a crime reconstruction. In current sampling techniques, the collection efficiency of post-blast residue is highly variable and often dependent on the swabbing materials and solvent systems used. To address these method limitations, this study presents a gelatine-based sampling medium and assesses its capabilities for the collection of ammonium nitrate.

China's rapid economic development is unavoidably characterized by environmental pitfalls, especially the carbon dioxide emissions of greenhouse gases from the use of energy. Since there is a relationship between economic growth, energy consumption, and carbon emission, it is important to note that the continuous improvement and application of solar energy technology will play an active role in carbon emission reduction. Therefore, this paper uses the Kuznets curve to probe the relationship between economic growth, solar energy technology, and carbon emissions.

New Zealand (NZ) has one of the world's highest incidence rates of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), a group of chronic inflammatory conditions that affect the gastrointestinal tract. Patients with IBD often believe certain foods influence their disease symptoms and consequently may alter their diet considerably. The objective of this study was to determine foods, additives, and cooking methods (dietary elements) that NZ IBD patients identify in the onset, exacerbation, or reduction of their symptoms.

A ruthenium complex showing multi-stimuli-responsive isomerization was synthesized. The catalytic activity of this complex toward water oxidation showed responses to visible-light irradiation and heat due to photoisomerization and thermal back-isomerization, respectively. DFT calculations suggested that a pendant moiety in the complex was key to controlling the catalytic activity.

Understanding of interactions of nanomaterials with biomolecules (especially proteins) is of great importance to the area of nanobiotechnology. Graphene and its derivative such as graphene oxide (GO), are two-dimensional (2-D) nanomaterials with remarkable physical and chemical properties and have been broadly explored in biotechnology and biomedical application. Here, we have reported the nature of adsorption of trypsin on the GO surface, considering its biomedical implications.

Presently, the negative results of a pandemic loom in a threatening manner on an international scale. Facilities such as airports have contributed significantly to the global spread of the COVID-19 virus. Therefore, in order to address this challenge, studies on sanitary risk management and the proper application of countermeasures should be carried out.

This article provides a dataset of several weight combinations from the adulteration of pork in beef using an electronic nose (e-nose). Seven combinations mixtures have been built, they were 100% pure beef, 10% mixed with pork, 25% mixed with pork, 50% mixed with pork, 75% mixed with pork, 90% mixed with pork, and 100% pure pork. By using this combination, a minimum of 10% of a mixture of pork or beef can be detected.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is strongly associated with hepatic insulin resistance (HIR); however, the key lipid species and molecular mechanisms linking these conditions are widely debated. We developed a subcellular fractionation method to quantify diacylglycerol (DAG) stereoisomers and ceramides in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), mitochondria, plasma membrane (PM), lipid droplets, and cytosol. Acute knockdown (KD) of diacylglycerol acyltransferase-2 in liver induced HIR in rats.

The sensitivity to contaminants of natural populations varies greatly depending on their historical exposure and on the sex of the individual. These factors result in great uncertainty in ecotoxicological risk assessments and challenge the protection of marine biodiversity. This study investigated the role of background pollution in the environment in shaping the sensitivity of males and females of the common marine amphipod Allorchestes compressa to the common trace marine pollutant, copper (Cu).

Ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) is one of the major causes of acute kidney injury (AKI) and associated with increased mortality and progression to chronic kidney injury (CKI). Molecular mechanisms underlying I/R injury involve the production and excessive accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Peroxiredoxin (Prx) V, a cysteine-dependent peroxidase, is located in the cytosol, mitochondria, and peroxisome and has an intensive ROS scavenging activity.

Maple syrup, made by boiling the sap of Acer saccharum, is an important agriculture commodity in eastern Canada and New England. Although the collection season is relatively short, a rich progression in the sensory qualities of maple syrup can occur throughout the season. A risk associated with maple syrup production at the end of a season is the development of off-flavors that result in syrup with little to no commercial value.

Whether telomere attrition reducing proliferative reserve in blood-cell progenitors is causal has important public-health implications. Mendelian randomization (MR) is an analytic technique using germline genetic variants as instrumental variables. If certain assumptions are met, estimates from MR should be free from most environmental sources of confounding and reverse causation.

Acellular scaffolds from decellularized donor organs are showing promising clinical results in tissue and organ repair and regeneration. A successful decellularization process is determined by (a) its capability to decellularize complete organs of large animals, (b) retention of the extracellular matrix (ECM) structures and morphologies, and (c) minimal loss of ECM proteins. In this study, porcine esophagi were perfused in full thickness with 0.

Asian seabass (or commonly known as barramundi), is a bony euryhaline teleost from the Family , inhabiting nearshore, estuarine, and marine connected freshwaters throughout the tropical Indo-West Pacific region. The species is catadromous, whereby adults spawn in salinities between 28 and 34 ppt at the mouth of estuaries, with resultant juveniles usually moving into brackish and freshwater systems to mature, before returning to the sea to spawn again as adults. The species lives in both marine and freshwater habitats and can move quickly between the two; thus, the species' ability to tolerate changes in salinity makes it a good candidate for studying the salinity acclimation response in teleosts.

Nanostructured transition metal sulfides are promising anode materials for lithium-ion batteries. Nevertheless, it is still a great challenge to prepare capacity-improved electrodes without reducing their rate capability and cycle stability. In this paper, we present a C/CoS@SnS composite material by loading SnS nanocrystals onto MOF-derived C/CoS nanostructures.

Reducing the concentration of reactive carbonyl species (RCS) in e-cigarette emissions represents a major goal to control their potentially harmful effects. Here, we adopted a novel strategy of trapping carbonyls present in e-cigarette emissions by adding polyphenols in e-liquid formulations. Our work showed that the addition of gallic acid, hydroxytyrosol and epigallocatechin gallate reduced the levels of carbonyls formed in the aerosols of vaped e-cigarettes, including formaldehyde, methylglyoxal and glyoxal.
