Unlabelled: 2-C-Methyl-d-erythrol-4-phosphate (MEP) pathway in plant supplies isoprene building blocks for carotenoids and chlorophylls essential in photosynthesis as well as plant hormones such as gibberellin and abscisic acid. To assess the effect of overexpression of the terminal enzyme of the MEP pathway, 1-hydroxy-2-methyl-2-()-butenyl-4-diphosphate reductase (HDR), transgenic overexpressing class 2 HDR from (2) under the control of 35S promoter was constructed. Contents of chlorophylls a and b in transgenic tobacco were enhanced by 19 and 7%, respectively, compared to those of the wild type.

Stripe rust and leaf rust are among the most devastating diseases of wheat, limiting its production globally. Wheat wild relatives harbour genetic diversity for new genes and alleles for all major wheat diseases. However, the use of this genetic variation from wild progenitor and non-progenitor species has been limited in the breeding programs.

Unlabelled: The present study involved incorporation of two major QTLs for pre-harvest sprouting tolerance (PHST) in an Indian wheat cultivar named Lok1, which happens to be PHS susceptible. For transfer of two QTLs, two independent programmes with two different donors (AUS1408, CN19055) were utilized. The recipient cv.

Nitrogen is an essential nutrient required in large quantities for the proper growth and development of plants. Nitrogen is the most limiting macronutrient for crop production in most of the world's agricultural areas. The dynamic nature of nitrogen and its tendency to lose soil and environment systems create a unique and challenging environment for its proper management.

Recent weather fluctuations imposing heat stress at the time of wheat grain filling cause frequent losses in grain yield and quality. Field-based studies for understanding the effect of terminal heat stress on wheat are complicated by the effect of multiple confounding variables. In the present study, the effect of day and day-night combined heat stresses during the grain-filling stage was studied using gene expression and proteomics approaches.

Spot blotch (SB) of wheat is emerging as a major threat to successful wheat production in warm and humid areas of the world. SB, also called leaf blight, is caused by , and is responsible for high yield losses in Eastern Gangetic Plains Zone in India. More recently, SB is extending gradually toward cooler, traditional wheat-growing North-Western part of the country which is a major contributor to the national cereal basket.

The article reports a powerful but simple approach for high-resolution mapping and eventual map-based cloning of agronomically important genes from distant relatives of wheat, using the already existing germplasm resources. Wild relatives of wheat are a rich reservoir of genetic diversity for its improvement. The effective utilization of distant wild relatives in isolation of agronomically important genes is hindered by the lack of recombination between the homoeologous chromosomes.

There is an urgent need to breed dry direct-seeded adapted rice varieties in order to address the emerging scenario of water-labor shortage. The aim of this study was to develop high-yielding, direct-seeded adapted varieties utilizing biparental to multiparental crosses involving as many as six different parents in conventional breeding programs and 12 parents in genomics-assisted breeding programs. The rigorous single plant selections were followed from the F generation onwards utilizing phenotypic selection and quantitative trait locus (QTL)/gene-based/linked markers for tracking the presence of desirable alleles of targeted QTL/genes.

The present study aimed for the synthesis, characterization, and comparative evaluation of anti-oxidant and anti-fungal potentials of zinc-based nanoparticles (ZnNPs) by using different reducing or organic complexing-capping agents. The synthesized ZnNPs exhibited quasi-spherical to hexagonal shapes with average particle sizes ranging from 8 to 210 nm. The UV-Vis spectroscopy of the prepared ZnNPs showed variation in the appearance of characteristic absorption peak(s) for the various reducing/complexing agents i.

The growing and cultivating resistant wheat crop varieties is important to meet the demands of the growing population and minimizing the yield losses due to foliar diseases. More important is the identification of novel resistance sources and transfer of resistance in ready to use form. In the current study, leaf rust (LR) and stripe rust (YR) resistant tetraploid nonprogenitors of wheat (UUCC) acc pau 3462 was crossed and backcrossed susceptible cultivar WL711(NN) by inducing homeologous pairing using CS ph1.

Background: Heat tolerance is becoming increasingly important where maize is grown under spring season in India which coincide with grain filling stage of crop resulting in tassel blast, reduced pollen viability, pollination failure and barren ears that causes devastating yield losses. So, there is need to identify the genomic regions associated with heat tolerance component traits which could be further employed in maize breeding program.
Results: An association mapping panel, consisting of 662 doubled haploid (DH) lines, was evaluated for yield contributing traits under normal and natural heat stress conditions.

Wheat variety PBW343, released in India in 1995, became the most widely grown cultivar in the country by the year 2000 owing to its wide adaptability and yield potential. It initially succumbed to leaf rust, and resistance genes and were transferred to PBW343. After an unbroken reign of about 10 years, the virulence against gene made PBW343 susceptible to stripe rust.

Waterlogging stress in maize is one of the emerging abiotic stresses in the current climate change scenario. To gain insights in transcriptional reprogramming during late hours of waterlogging stress under field conditions, we aimed to elucidate the transcriptional and anatomical changes in two contrasting maize inbreds viz. I110 (susceptible) and I172 (tolerant).

Meloidogyne incognita is an economically dominant pathogen infesting a wide range of crops curbing their growth and productivity. Deregistration of frontline nematicides has necessitated exploration of innovative and novel class of structurally diverse nematicides with streamlined activity. In this context, N-alkylated derivatives of isatin known for their remarkable biological profile were synthesized, characterized and evaluated in vitro for their antinemic character followed by in silico studies for their mode of action and toxicological studies for their fitness as agrochemical.

Maize grain protein is deficient in two essential amino acids, lysine and tryptophan, defining it as of low nutritive value. The discovery of (2) gene has led to the development of quality protein maize (QPM) that has enhanced levels of essential amino acids over normal maize. However, the adoption of QPM is still very limited.

GRAS genes belong to the plant-specific transcription factors (TF's) family that are known to be involved in plant growth and development. In this study, we have identified 37 genes from the bottle gourd genome that encodes for GRAS TF's. Except for the SCLA, we were able to identify at least one gene from each of the 17 subfamilies.
