Purpose: Bagasse, the residue left after extracting juice from sugarcane stalks, is rich in lignocellulosic biomass. The lignin present in this plant biomass is the key factor that hinders the efficient extraction of ethanol from the bagasse. In the current study, γ-irradiated sugarcane mutants were evaluated for variation in lignin content and its corresponding () gene.

Low-lipoxygenase soybean cultivars are highly desirable because lower lipoxygenase content in soybean seeds leads to better quality soybean-based products and oils that are free from off-flavor or beany flavor. The expression of the Lox-2 gene is mainly responsible for this flavor. Over the years, natural antioxidants have been tested biochemically to inhibit Lox-2 activity, but studies are still lacking.

Einkorn wheat (Triticum monococcum) is an ancient grain crop and a close relative of the diploid progenitor (T. urartu) of polyploid wheat. It is the only diploid wheat species having both domesticated and wild forms and therefore provides an excellent system to identify domestication genes and genes for traits of interest to utilize in wheat improvement.

Purpose: This manuscript aimed for the generation of γ-irradiation derived mutants of potato genotype PAU/RR-1501 possessing desirable processing traits.
Materials And Methods: Nodal cuttings from virus-free explants were established on basal MS medium and irradiated with different doses (0, 5, 10 and 20 Gy) of γ-irradiation. The 5 and 10 Gy treated plantlets were multiplied and used for micro-tuber induction.

Wheat is one of the most important cereal crops for the global food security. Due to its narrow genetic base, modern bread wheat cultivars face challenges from increasing abiotic and biotic stresses. Since genetic improvement is the most sustainable approach, finding novel genes and alleles is critical for enhancing the genetic diversity of wheat.

Triterpenoids are among the most assorted class of specialized metabolites found in all the taxa of living organisms. Triterpenoids are the leading active ingredients sourced from plant species and are utilized in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. The triterpenoid precursor 2,3-oxidosqualene, which is biosynthesized via the mevalonate (MVA) pathway is structurally diversified by the oxidosqualene cyclases (OSCs) and other scaffold-decorating enzymes such as cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (P450s), UDP-glycosyltransferases (UGTs) and acyltransferases (ATs).

Host-pathogen interaction is the most crucial factor that evokes the host immune system to fight against pathogens. In contrast to specialized immune cells present in humans and animals, plants have disease resistance (R-) and disease susceptibility (S-) genes. R-genes confer disease resistance and are generally introgressed from wild crop relatives to cultivated crops.

Stem rust is one of the major diseases threatening wheat production globally. To identify novel resistance quantitative trait loci (QTLs), we performed 35K Axiom Array SNP genotyping assays on an association mapping panel of 400 germplasm accessions, including Indian landraces, in conjunction with phenotyping for stem rust at seedling and adult plant stages. Association analyses using three genome wide association study (GWAS) models (CMLM, MLMM, and FarmCPU) revealed 20 reliable QTLs for seedling and adult plant resistance.

Maize is recognized as the queen of cereals, with an ability to adapt to diverse agroecologies (from 58N to 55S latitude) and the highest genetic yield potential among cereals. Under contemporary conditions of global climate change, C maize crops offer resilience and sustainability to ensure food, nutritional security, and farmer livelihood. In the northwestern plains of India, maize is an important alternative to paddy for crop diversification in the wake of depleting water resources, reduced farm diversity, nutrient mining, and environmental pollution due to paddy straw burning.

Flowering is a crucial phase for angiosperms to continue their species propagation and is highly regulated. In the current review, flowering in sugarcane and the associated mechanisms are elaborately presented. In sugarcane, flowering has two effects, wherein it is a beneficial factor from the breeder's perspective and crucial for crop improvement, but commercially, it depletes the sucrose reserves from the stalks; hence, less value is assigned.

Background: Doubled haploid technology offers the fastest route of inbred line development by rapidly fixing the desirable combinations in a single year. However, the differential response of haploid induction to genetic background of maternal lines accompanied with low induction rate and high mortality rate due to artificial chromosomal doubling of haploid seedlings creates hindrance in doubled haploid production on a commercial scale under tropical conditions. To speed up the hybrid breeding programme in sub-tropical maize, efforts are reported here to optimize the protocol for efficient production of fixed lines using haploid inducers.
