The circular economy (CE) aims to decouple the growth of the economy from the consumption of finite resources through strategies, such as eliminating waste, circulating materials in use, and regenerating natural systems. Due to the rapid development of data science (DS), promising progress has been made in the transition toward CE in the past decade. DS offers various methods to achieve accurate predictions, accelerate product sustainable design, prolong asset life, optimize the infrastructure needed to circulate materials, and provide evidence-based insights.

Early recognition and treatment of OSA in hospitalized patients and its impact on health care utilization in rural population: a real-world study.

Study Objectives: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a highly prevalent, yet underdiagnosed, condition. Due to its adverse impact on risk for cardiopulmonary disorders, there is interest in proactive screening of OSA in hospitalized patients. We studied the long-term outcome of such screened patients who were initiated on positive airway pressure therapy.

Food insecurity, inflammation, and immune function among older US adults: Findings from the health and Retirement study.

Background: Food insecurity (FI) is a pressing public health concern among older adults and has been associated with adverse cardiovascular outcomes. Greater systemic inflammation may provide a pathway to explain these associations, but few studies have examined the link between FI and markers of inflammation. Thus, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the associations between FI and multiple inflammatory and immune functioning biomarkers using a nationally representative study of US adults aged > 50 years.

Impacts of ethanol blended fuels and cold temperature on VOC emissions from gasoline vehicles in China.

The Chinese central government has initiated pilot projects to promote the adoption of gasoline containing 10%v ethanol (E10). Vehicle emissions using ethanol blended fuels require investigation to estimate the environmental impacts of the initiative. Five fuel formulations were created using two blending methods (splash blending and match blending) to evaluate the impacts of formulations on speciated volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from exhaust emissions.

Improving ecosystem health in highly altered river basins: a generalized framework and its application to the Mississippi-Atchafalaya River Basin.

Continued large-scale public investment in declining ecosystems depends on demonstrations of "success". While the public conception of "success" often focuses on restoration to a pre-disturbance condition, the scientific community is more likely to measure success in terms of improved ecosystem health. Using a combination of literature review, workshops and expert solicitation we propose a generalized framework to improve ecosystem health in highly altered river basins by reducing ecosystem stressors, enhancing ecosystem processes and increasing ecosystem resilience.

This Assessment Update by the Environmental Effects Assessment Panel (EEAP) of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) considers the interactive effects of solar UV radiation, global warming, and other weathering factors on plastics. The Assessment illustrates the significance of solar UV radiation in decreasing the durability of plastic materials, degradation of plastic debris, formation of micro- and nanoplastic particles and accompanying leaching of potential toxic compounds. Micro- and nanoplastics have been found in all ecosystems, the atmosphere, and in humans.

In the face of global species loss, it is paramount to understand the effects of human activity on vulnerable species, particularly in highly diverse, complex systems. The Greater Madidi Landscape in the Bolivian Amazon includes several biodiverse protected areas that were created with the goal of sustaining healthy and diverse ecosystems while not impeding the livelihoods of local indigenous peoples.
