Trends in the seasonal variation of paediatric fractures.

J Child Orthop

December 2018

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Schneider's Children's Hospital, Rabin Medical Center, Israel, affiliated with Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel.

Purpose: The incidence of paediatric fractures is known to peak during the summer as a consequence of unsupervised physical activity. A more sedentary lifestyle is a potential cause for changes in paediatric seasonal fracture frequency and severity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the current seasonal variations of paediatric fractures in order to determine resource allocation in hospitals, community clinics and prevention programs.

Meprin-alpha in chronic diabetic nephropathy: interaction with the renin-angiotensin axis.

Am J Physiol Renal Physiol

October 2005

Schneider's Children's Hospital, Division of Nephrology, SCH 365, 269-01 76th Ave., New Hyde Park, NY 11040-1432, USA.

Meprin (MEP) A is a metalloendopeptidase that is present in the renal proximal tubule brush-border membrane (BBM) and that colocalizes with angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). The MEP beta-chain gene locus on chromosome 18 has been linked to a heightened risk of diabetic nephropathy (DN) in patients with type 2 diabetes. This study evaluated 1) whether MEP-alpha and MEP-beta gene and protein expression are altered in db/db mice before the onset of DN and 2) the role of MEP-alpha in the pathogenesis of DN and the impact of the renin-angiotensin system on this interaction in two experimental models of diabetes.

Comparison between selective and nonselective nitric oxide synthase inhibition and phenylephrine in normal and endotoxic swine.

Crit Care Med

September 2000

Division of Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, and Schneider's Children's Hospital, New Hyde Park, NY 11040, USA.

Objective: To compare the cardiopulmonary and peripheral circulatory effects of the nonselective nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) to the more selective inducible NOS inhibitor S-methylisothiourea (SMT) and to phenylephrine (PE) in endotoxic and normal swine.

Design: Prospective, randomized, unblinded study.

Setting: Research laboratory of academic medical center.
