Purpose: Evaluate the validity of rasterstereography compared to low-dose, biplanar spine radiography for assessing thoracic kyphosis (TK) angles in Scheuermann's disease patients.
Methods: This prospective study included all the Scheuermann's disease patients consulting our clinic from 2016 to 2018. Recruited patients underwent two-dimensional low-dose biplanar anteroposterior full-length spine radiography and rasterstereography on the same day.

The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the clinical and radiographic outcomes of patients who underwent posterior correction and fusion for thoracic hyperkyphosis, with a focus on determining the optimal distal fusion level. From 2006 to 2012, 26 patients with a median age of 16.8 years (range 14-25), diagnosed with either idiopathic hyperkyphosis or Scheuermann's kyphosis, underwent posterior fusion and Ponte osteotomies at two medical centers.

Background: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and mild behavioral impairment (MBI) are both considered potential prodromal stages of dementia, especially Alzheimer's disease. Previous literature has lacked specific information about MBI in individuals with MCI and associations of several aspects of both, MBI and MCI.
Objective: Our aim was to investigate whether associations exist between aspects of MBI and aspects of cognitive performance in certain dimensions of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA).

Background: Evolutionary changes in human rib cage morphology rendered it prone to pathologies like Scheuermann's kyphosis (SK). However, the impact of SK on rib cage morphology is unclear.
Purpose: This study aimed to examine differences in rib cage morphology (e.

Scheuermann disease, a structural deformity marked by kyphotic alterations in the thoracic or thoracolumbar spine, is frequently accompanied by back discomfort and spinal wedging. Scheuermann disease predominantly affects the thoracic and thoracolumbar parts of the spine; thus, there is an indirect link between the two conditions. This case report describes a rare form of Scheuermann illness in which lumbar canal stenosis caused bilateral lower limb radiculopathy.

Background: Adult spinal deformity (ASD) surgery often involves the placement of pedicle screws using various methods, including freehand technique, fluoroscopic guidance, and computer-assisted intraoperative navigation, each with distinct limitations. Particularly challenging is the instrumentation of pedicles with small or absent cancellous channels (Watanabe types C and D pedicles), commonly found at the apex of large curves where precise screw placement is crucial for effective deformity correction. 3D-printed pedicle screw drill guides (3DPSG) may assist in accurately placing pedicle screws while minimally disrupting the standard ASD surgery workflow.

The effects of immunodeficiency associated with chronic HIV infection on COVID-19 disease and viral persistence have not been directly addressed in a controlled setting. In this pilot study, we exposed two pigtail macaques (PTMs) chronically infected with SIVmac239, exhibiting from very low to no CD4 T cells across all compartments, to SARS-CoV-2. We monitored the disease progression, viral replication, and evolution, and compared these outcomes with SIV-naïve PTMs infected with SARS-CoV-2.

Scheuermann´s kyphosis (SK) is the most common cause of painful and progressive structural hyperkyphosis in adolescents. Surgical treatment should be considered in cases of refractory pain or progressive deformities. We present the clinical and radiological results obtained using a bipolar, hybrid posterior instrumentation tecnique.

Background: Aortic stenosis (AS) is driven by progressive inflammatory and fibrocalcific processes regulated by circulating inflammatory and valve resident endothelial and interstitial cells. The impact of platelets, platelet-derived mediators, and platelet-monocyte interactions on the acceleration of local valvular inflammation and mineralization is presently unknown.
Methods: We prospectively enrolled 475 consecutive patients with severe symptomatic AS undergoing aortic valve replacement.

Background: Pediatric acute transverse myelitis (ATM) accounts for 20-30% of children presenting with a first acquired demyelinating syndrome (ADS) and may be the first clinical presentation of a relapsing ADS such as multiple sclerosis (MS). B cells have been strongly implicated in the pathogenesis of adult MS. However, little is known about B cells in pediatric MS, and even less so in pediatric ATM.

Purpose: The relationship between rod curvature and postoperative radiographic results is a debated topic. One of the reasons of the heterogeneity of the observed results might reside in the lack of a validated and widely employed method to measure the curvature of the rods. Aim of this study was to present and validate a novel method for rod measurement, which is based on routine X-rays and utilizes a regression algorithm that limits manual measurements and the related errors.

The use of single cell/nucleus RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) technologies that quantitively describe cell transcriptional phenotypes is revolutionizing our understanding of cell biology, leading to new insights in cell type identification, disease mechanisms, and drug development. The tremendous growth in scRNA-seq data has posed new challenges in efficiently characterizing data-driven cell types and identifying quantifiable marker genes for cell type classification. The use of machine learning and explainable artificial intelligence has emerged as an effective approach to study large-scale scRNA-seq data.
