A simple strategy for the synthesis of α-geminal disubstituted pyrrolidine iminosugars 3a-c and their C-4 fluorinated derivatives 4a-c has been described from d-glucose. The methodology involves the Corey-Link and Jocic-Reeve reaction with 3-oxo-α-d-glucofuranose and nucleophilic displacement reaction to get the furanose fused pyrrolidine ring skeleton with requisite CHOH/COH functionalities at C-3. The fluorine substituent in target molecules was introduced by nucleophilic displacement of -OTf in 9a/9c with CsF.

Interactions between different phytoplankton taxa and heterotrophic bacterial communities within aquatic environments can differentially support growth of various heterotrophic bacterial species. In this study, phytoplankton diversity was studied using traditional microscopic techniques and the bacterial communities associated with phytoplankton bloom were studied using High Throughput Sequencing (HTS) analysis of 16S rRNA gene amplicons from the V1-V3 and V3-V4 hypervariable regions. New substituted thieno[3,2-c]pyridine derivatives 5 were synthesized by the reaction of 3-bromo-4-chlorothieno[3,2-c]pyridine 1 with cyclic amine 2, which further on Suzuki reaction with boronic acids 4 converted to corresponding 3-arylthieno[3,2-c]pyridine 5. Substituent R has predominant effect on fluorescence properties of thienopyridines. However, the electron donor amine at C has no effect on fluorescence properties of thienopyridines.

The present study deals with the assessment of sequential extraction of particulate matter (PM)-bound metals and the potential health risks associated with them in a growing metropolitan city (Pune) of India. The average mass concentration of both PM and PM exceeded the National Ambient Air Quality Standards. Significant seasonal variation in mass concentration was found for both size fractions of PM with higher values in winter season and lower in monsoon.

Isoprenoids and phenylpropanoids are the major secondary metabolite constituents in Ocimum genus. Though enzymes from phenylpropanoid pathway have been characterized from few plants, limited information exists on how they modulate levels of secondary metabolites. Eosin Y, an organic dye, was activated as a photoredox catalyst in the presence of molecular oxygen using visible light and, when it was used in the reaction of aryl ketones and benzyl amines, afforded good yields (52-87%) of 2,4,6-triarylpyridines (21 examples) at ambient temperature. The aryl groups at the 2- and 6-positions are derived from ketones, while benzyl amine plays the dual role of providing an aryl functionality at the 4-position of pyridine as well as being a nitrogen donor.

In drug delivery research, several toxic chemical crosslinkers and non-toxic ionic crosslinkers have been exploited for the synthesis of microparticles from acetic acid soluble chitosan. This paper hypothesized the implementation of sodium potassium tartrate (SPT) as an alternative crosslinker for sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP) and SPT/TPP co-crosslinkers for synthesis of the microparticles using water soluble chitosan (WSC) for encapsulation of Bovine serum albumin (BSA) as a model protein, and Tetanus toxoid (TT) as a model vaccine. We report a hybrid solar cell based on single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) interfaced with amorphous silicon (a-Si). The high quality carbon nanotube network was dry transferred onto intrinsic a-Si forming Schottky junction for metallic SWNT bundles and heterojunctions for semiconducting SWNT bundles. The nanotube chemical doping and a-Si surface treatment minimized the hysteresis effect in current-voltage characteristics allowing an increase in the conversion efficiency to 1.

Periampullary adenocarcinomas can be of two histological subtypes, intestinal or pancreatobiliary. The latter is more frequent and aggressive, and characterized by a prominent desmoplastic stroma, which is tightly related to the biology of the cancer, including its poor response to chemotherapy. Whereas miRNAs are known to regulate various cellular processes and interactions between cells, their exact role in periampullary carcinoma remains to be characterized, especially with respect to the prominent stromal component of pancreatobiliary type cancers.

A well defined 314-helical tetravalent β-galactopeptide site-specific functionalised template (SSFT) 1 was prepared containing d-galactose units, with free anomeric carbons as the aldehyde tags, and was explored via ligation with different aminoxy sugars (α-/β-d-glucose, α/β-d-galactose, α-d-mannose and β-d-lactose) to get 314-helical carbohydrate-functionalised multivalent glycoconjugates 2-7. Preliminary recognition studies of tetramannosyl glycoconjugate 4 with a specific lectin (concanavalin A) using fluorescence anisotropy showed an increase in binding affinity and the multivalency effect was found to be increased by 6.5 times per glycan.
