Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a disease with various levels varying from fatty liver steatosis to acute steatosis which is non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), which can develop into hepatic failure, as well as in some conditions it can develop into hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In the NAFLD and NASH context, aberrant microRNA (miRNA) expression has a thorough contribution to the incidence and development of these liver disorders by influencing key biological actions, involving lipid metabolism, inflammation, and fibrosis. Dysregulated miRNAs can disrupt the balance between lipid accumulation and clearance, exacerbate inflammatory responses, and promote fibrogenesis, thus advancing the severeness of the disorder from simple steatosis to more complex NASH.

The potential of the two-dimensional ruthenium carbide (RuC) nanosheet to detect highly toxic environmental compounds - namely, Furan (Fur) and 1,n-Dioxane (1,n-Diox) - was investigated utilizing the density functional theory (DFT) approach. The adsorption features of the Fur and 1,n-Diox molecules on the RuC nanosheet were evaluated in parallel and vertical configurations. From energetic manifestations, Fur and 1,n-Diox molecules preferred to be adsorbed in the parallel configuration rather than the vertical one on the RuC nanosheet with negative E values of -27.

Photoluminescence (PL) quenching mechanism and dynamics of carbon nanodots (CNDs) with molecular electron donor and acceptor is investigated by means of time resolved emission spectroscopy. CNDs are prepared by direct pyrolysis from two different precursors, di-ammonium citrate and tri-ammonium citrate, and at two different temperatures 150 °C and 180 °C and 40 hours under ambient conditions. Despite the small changes in the pyrolysis temperature rather significant differences are observed in the structure, PL quantum yield, and hence observation of the important characteristics of PL quenching kinetics in the presence of benzophenone and dimethoxybenzene as an electron acceptor and donors, respectively.
