Giant cell tumor of sacral vertebra in an adolescent without neurodeficit: A case report and review of the literature.

Background: Giant cell tumors (GCTs) are locally aggressive benign primary bone tumors that rarely occur in the spine. Their treatment methods include denosumab, bisphosphonates, and/or different surgical techniques. Here, we present the successful treatment of a sacral GCT in a 13 years old.

Multifocal Tuberculous Spondylitis and Extensive Extraspinal Tubercular Osteomyelitis without Immunocompromise: Case Report and Literature Review.

Multifocal extensive spinal and extraspinal tuberculosis is very rare. So far, fewer than 10 cases have been reported. We hereby report two such cases to highlight their rarity, the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges they presented, and the overall prognosis of the condition.

The World Health Organization defines healthy ageing as 'the process of developing and maintaining the functional ability that enables well-being in older age'. This functional ability is the characteristic of the individual's own physical and mental status influenced by the environmental and socio-economic factors. Preoperative preparation of the elderly patients includes functional assessment to identify preexisting cognitive impairment or cardio-pulmonary reserve, frailty, nutrition, polypharmacy and anti-coagulation issues.

Management of Pelvic Fractures and Hip Dislocation in Pregnancy: A Case Report and Review of Literature.

Introduction: Trauma is the leading non-obstetric cause of maternal mortality during pregnancy and pelvic fractures are challenging to manage in such cases due to the effect of trauma on the gravid uterus and altered maternal physiology. About 8-16% of pregnant females can have fatal outcome after trauma, with pelvic fractures contributing majorly to the same, and also can have severe fetomaternal complications. There are only two cases reported till date of hip dislocation in pregnancy, with very little literature available on its outcome.

A Rare Cause of Ankle Pain - Chondrosarcoma of the Talus: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Introduction: Chondrosarcoma of the talus is one of the rare causes of ankle pain. Often this pain is neglected by the patients. Hence, the presentation is late.

Effectiveness and safety of generic tofacitinib in spondyloarthritis: A real-world retrospective analysis from India.

Background: Clinical trial evidence demonstrates the efficacy of tofacitinib in ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Real-world data from spondyloarthritis (SpA) patients are scarce; there are few reports of its effectiveness and safety from low- to middle-income countries like India, despite its widespread usage.

Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of clinical and laboratory records of 100 patients with SpA prescribed generic tofacitinib from a single center in Mumbai, India.

CD4/CD8 Ratio Recovery Among People Living With HIV Starting With First-Line Integrase Strand Transfer Inhibitors: A Prospective Regional Cohort Analysis.

Background: We evaluated trends in CD4/CD8 ratio among people living with HIV (PLWH) starting antiretroviral therapy (ART) with first-line integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTI) compared with non-INSTI-based ART, and the incidence of CD4/CD8 ratio normalization.

Methods: All PLWH enrolled in adult HIV cohorts of IeDEA Asia-Pacific who started with triple-ART with at least 1 CD4, CD8 (3-month window), and HIV-1 RNA measurement post-ART were included. CD4/CD8 ratio normalization was defined as a ratio ≥1.

Perioperative Challenges in the Management of Rhino-Orbital Cerebral Mucormycosis: An Observational Study from a Tertiary Care Hospital.

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is the biggest threat of the century. Associated with this disease, are a number of rhino orbital cerebral mucormycosis cases seen as post COVID sequelae. Amphotericin B and surgical debridement are the treatment modalities.

Virological failure among people living with HIV receiving second-line antiretroviral therapy in Pune, India.

Background: The number of people receiving second-line antiretroviral therapy (ART) has increased as global access to ART has expanded. Data on the burden and factors associated with second-line ART virologic failure (VF) from India remain limited.

Methods: We conducted cross-sectional viral load (VL) testing among adults (≥ 18 years) who were registered at a publicly funded ART center in western India between 2014 and 2015 and had received second-line ART for at least 6 months.

Posterior Nasal Nerve Resection-A Novel and Effective Way to Surgically Treat Refractory Allergic and Vasomotor Rhinitis.

This study focused on outcomes of endoscopic posterior nasal neurectomy and turbinate reduction with regard to the common symptoms of allergic and vasomotor rhinitis. This randomized experimental study conducted between December 2018 to November 2020 included 60 patients, aged 18-50 years with allergic or vasomotor rhinitis with/ without deviated nasal septum of grade 3 and 4, not responding to conservative management. Patients were divided into two groups.

Adult Onset Vanishing White Matter Disease: A Rare Case Report.

Vanishing white matter disease (VWMD) is the most common childhood-onset inheritable progressive leukodystrophy disorder, which exclusively affects the white matter of the brain. It shows mutations in one of the five eukaryotic translation initiation factor following an autosomal recessive pattern, of which eIF2B5 mutation is the most frequent. These genes play a vital role in the translation and regulation of protein synthesis and mutation in them leads to a dysregulation of the cellular stress response, which in particular disrupts myelination and affects oligodendrocytes and astrocytes while sparing the neurons.

A Case Report of Closed Reduction of Anterior Transolecranon Fracture Dislocation of Elbow in a Pediatric Patient.

Introduction: Anterior transolecranon fracture dislocation of the elbow is rarely found in pediatric patients, with very few cases reported till now, and very less literature available on its management.

Case Report: We hereby present a rare case of trauma to the left elbow in a 9-year-old female child who sustained anterior transolecranon dislocation without neurovascular deficit. Such fracture dislocations are managed usually by surgical methods with or without osteosynthesis.

Introduction: Viral load (VL) testing is still challenging to monitor treatment responses of antiretroviral therapy (ART) for HIV treatment programme in Asia. We assessed the association between routine VL testing and virological failure (VF) and determine factors associated with switching to second-line regimen.

Methods: Among 21 sites from the TREAT Asia HIV Observational Database (TAHOD), people living with HIV (PLHIV) aged ≥18 years initiating ART from 2003 to 2021 were included.

Comparison of public health measures taken during Spanish flu and COVID-19 pandemics: A Narrative Review.

The similarity of the consequences of COVID-19 reminded us of the destruction caused by the Spanish flu over a century ago and led us to find similarities in the way the two pandemics were handled. PRISMA Guideline was followed for a systematic search to identify eligible published articles. Information about the public health measures adopted during both the pandemics was taken from literature.

Background: Unhealthy alcohol use is associated with increased morbidity and mortality among persons with HIV and tuberculosis (TB). Computer-based interventions (CBIs) can reduce unhealthy alcohol use, are scalable, and may improve outcomes among patients with HIV or TB.

According to World Health Organization, approximately 5% of all children under the age of 14 years display some developmental disability. Aim and objective Our objective was to investigate the prevalence of abnormal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) brain findings in pediatric patients with non-syndromic developmental delay and to establish the utility of MRI for the same.

A study of electrocardiographic and 2D echocardiographic changes in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients without cardiovascular symptoms.

Context: Cardiovascular diseases in diabetic patients are mostly asymptomatic due to autonomic neuropathy. Many patients with left ventricular dysfunction remain undiagnosed and untreated until advance disease causes disability. This delay could be avoided if screening techniques are used to identify left ventricular dysfunction in its preclinical phase.

A Novel Online Dissection Course on Lower Limb Anatomy During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Introduction: The teaching of human anatomy, a medical subject that relies heavily on live teaching, teacher-student interactivity, and visuospatial skills, has suffered tremendously since the COVID-19 pandemic mandated the shutting down of medical institutions. The medical education fraternity was compelled to replace the traditional teaching method of hands-on cadaveric dissections (HOCDs) with online education to overcome this new challenge, but it came at the cost of reduced student engagement and lesser spatial orientation.

Method: In this cross-sectional, questionnaire-based study, we designed a novel online dissection course on lower limb anatomy and collected student feedback on the same from consenting Phase I Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) students of Symbiosis Medical College for Women, Pune, India.

Mucinous Cystic Neoplasm of Mesentery: A Case Report.
