Bronchial asthma (BA) is a heterogeneous disease. Some patients benefit greatly from glucocorticoid (GC) treatment, whereas others are non-responders. This could be attributable to differences in pathobiology.

This study aimed to assess the accuracy of predicting pelvic lymph node status using sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy with indocyanine green (ICG) and to examine the outcomes of SLN biopsy-guided abdominal radical trachelectomy (ART). Patients with stage IA2-IB2 cervical cancer from January 2009 to January 2021 were included. ICG was injected before ART and SLNs were identified, excised, and assessed intraoperatively using fast-frozen sections.

Background: Neuroleptics are commonly used in palliative care settings. However, adverse events of neuroleptics, known as extrapyramidal symptoms (EPSs), might be overlooked in clinical practice. We conducted this study to explore the prevalence of EPSs in palliative care setting.

Background: Second-line salvage therapy for patients with metastatic germ-cell cancer (GCC) after the first-line combination of VIP (etoposide, ifosfamide, cisplatin) therapy has not been established. This study evaluated the efficacy and tolerability of the TGP (paclitaxel, gemcitabine, cisplatin) combination chemotherapy as a second-line salvage therapy.

Patients And Methods: The medical records of 16 consecutive patients with metastatic GCC who had been treated with first-line VIP therapy followed by second-line TGP therapy between 2005 and 2019 were reviewed and statistically analyzed.

Background And Aim: Disability is an important health problem among older individuals, prompting the need for long-term care. Age-related disability is usually associated with mobility; however, little is known about the association between mobility and long-term care. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify the association between the timed up and go (TUG) test measuring mobility and long-term care eligibility.

Nuclear receptor subfamily 4, group A, member 3 (NR4A3) is a member of the NR4A subgroup of orphan nuclear receptors, implicated in the regulation of diverse biological functions, including metabolism, angiogenesis, inflammation, cell proliferation, and apoptosis. Although many reports have suggested the involvement of NR4A3 in the development and/or progression of tumors, its role varies among tumor types. Previously, we reported that DNA hypomethylation at NR4A3 exon 3 is associated with lower survival rate of neuroblastoma (NB) patients.

Erythropoietin-producing hepatocellular (Eph) receptors and their ligand ephrins serve crucial roles in the interactions among epithelial cells. Eph receptor/ephrin signaling regulates cell functions, including proliferation, differentiation and migration, via these cell-cell interactions. We reported previously that EPHB2, a member of the Eph receptor family, was highly expressed in chemically induced cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) tissues in mice.

This study for the first time assessed quadrivalent human papillomavirus (qHPV) vaccine effectiveness against HPV6/11/16/18-related high-grade cervical disease in Japanese women (16-26 years old), as previously demonstrated in overseas trials, and vaccine safety in a longer term (48-month) open-label study (NCT01544478). Participants received three doses of qHPV vaccine (Day 1, Month 2, Month 6). Effectiveness endpoints, assessed in the per-protocol population, included incidence of HPV6/11/16/18-related cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) Grade 2 or worse (CIN Grade 2 and 3, adenocarcinoma in situ, and/or cervical cancer) as primary endpoint and incidence of external genital lesions (EGLs).

Purpose: It is unclear whether experience at high-volume institute improves the treatment quality of prostate seed implantation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of institutional experience on postimplant dosimetric parameters in a nationwide prospective cohort study.

Methods: From July 2005 to June 2007, 2354 patients were registered in the Japanese Prostate Cancer Outcome Study of Permanent I‑125 Seed Implantation (J-POPS), and 1126 patients treated with seed implantation alone were evaluated.

As cancer susceptibility varies among mouse strains, mouse models are powerful tools for the identification of genes responsible for cancer development. Several cancer susceptibility loci have been mapped by genetic analysis using cancer-resistant and cancer-susceptible mouse strains. However, only a few corresponding genes for these loci have been identified, because most of the cancer susceptibility loci are low-penetrance alleles.

Background: A 9-valent human papillomavirus-6/11/16/18/31/33/45/52/58 (9vHPV) vaccine extends coverage to 5 next most common oncogenic types (31/33/45/52/58) in cervical cancer versus quadrivalent HPV (qHPV) vaccine. We describe efficacy, immunogenicity, and safety in Asian participants (India, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand) from 2 international studies: a randomized, double-blinded, qHPV vaccine-controlled efficacy study (young women aged 16-26 years; NCT00543543; Study 001); and an immunogenicity study (girls and boys aged 9-15 years; NCT00943722; Study 002).

Methods: Participants (N = 2519) were vaccinated at day 1 and months 2 and 6.

This was a nation-wide retrospective study in Japan examining women who underwent radical hysterectomy for clinical stage IB-IIB cervical cancer with pelvic and/or para-aortic lymph node metastasis between 2004 and 2008. Time to recurrence or death and patterns of disease recurrence were compared based upon the adjuvant treatment pattern: whole pelvic radiotherapy alone (n = 253), concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT, n = 502) and chemotherapy alone (n = 319). Women who received chemotherapy alone had similar recurrence (5-year rates, 36.

Study Objective: To describe Higuchi's transverse incision and a modification of this method for reduced port surgery (RPS).

Design: Descriptive study.

Setting: University hospital.

Objective: Higuchi's transverse incision is made at a lower position than the Pfannenstiel transverse incision and is superior in terms of cosmetic outcomes. The purpose of this study was to examine the safety and efficacy of novel forms of reduced port surgery for ovarian cysts and uterine fibroids applying Higuchi's transverse incision.

Methods: In 33 patients with ovarian cysts who underwent low-position single-incision laparoscopic surgery (L-SILS)-modified single-port laparoscopy placed in the 2-3-cm Higuchi's incision above the pubis, patient's characteristics and perioperative outcomes were compared with those of patients who underwent multiport laparoscopy ( = 53).

Background: The efficacy and safety of axitinib, a potent and selective vascular endothelial growth factor receptors 1-3 inhibitor, combined with best supportive care (BSC) was evaluated in a global, randomized, placebo-controlled phase II trial in patients with locally advanced or metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Patients And Methods: Patients with HCC and Child-Pugh Class A who progressed on or were intolerant to one prior antiangiogenic therapy were stratified by tumour invasion (presence/absence of extrahepatic spread and/or vascular invasion) and region (Asian/non-Asian) and randomized (2:1) to axitinib/BSC (starting dose 5 mg twice-daily) or placebo/BSC. The primary end point was overall survival (OS).
