A new dual responsive colorimetric and fluorescent turn-off sensor for Fe and Cu was designed and synthesized based on quinoxaline derivative by a simple procedure reaction. 2,3-bis(6-bromopyridin-2-yl)-6-methoxyquinoxaline (BMQ) was fabricated and characterized using ATR-IR, C and H NMR, and Mass spectroscopy. The interaction of BMQ with Fe caused a significant color change from colorless to yellow.

Article Synopsis
  • This study explored producing functional ricotta cheese by incorporating broccoli sprouts extract (BSE) using two forms: free extract and nano-capsules, in levels of 3% and 5% w/w.
  • Over a 15-day storage period at 4-6°C, results indicated that adding BSE increased the cheese's acidity, hardness, and chewiness while reducing pH, moisture, total phenol content, and antioxidant activity.
  • Cheeses with nano-capsulated BSE showed better preservation of bioactive compounds and higher sensory acceptance, particularly in flavor and overall quality, compared to those with free extract.

A novel quinazoline-based colorimetric sensor (probe 1) that detected Fe via naked-eye in a buffered MeOH: HO (8:2) solvent system within a neutral pH range was synthesized and its structure was confirmed by H-NMR, C-NMR, FT-IR, and Mass spectroscopy. Its photophysical properties were also studied. The sensitivity and selectivity factor in the presence of 16 metal ions was examined by utilizing absorption titrations.

Background: Little is known about cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) DNA methylation and transcription alterations in gastric cancer.

Objective: In this paper, we initially aimed to address the effect of diazinon pesticide on DNA methylation and transcription changes of the CYP3A4 gene in a human gastric cell line. In the next step, we studied the methylation differences of CpG sites within the upstream regulatory regions of the CYP3A4 gene among human gastric cancerous and healthy tissues.

Quinoxaline derivatives are well-known N-heterocycles with pharmacological and fluorescence activities. Almost all quinoxaline derivatives with extensive π-conjugation have been introduced as fluorophores which emit blue and green light. For the first time, we designed and synthesized 6-chloro-2,3 di(Pyridine-2yl) quinoxaline (2-CPQ) as a pink fluorophore in acetonitrile medium by simple route at room temperature whitin 30 min.

Effects of cellulose nanofibrils and starch compared with polyacrylamide on fundamental properties of pulp and paper.

Int J Biol Macromol

December 2021

Department of Wood and Paper Science & Technology, Faculty of Natural Resources, University of Tehran, Karaj, Iran.

Bio-based additives received significant attention in pulp and paper properties improvement. For this, the most cited biochemical Cellulose Nano Fibrils (CNFs) and Cationic Starch (CS) were experimentally compared with the most declared synthetic chemical, Cationic Polyacrylamide (CPAM). SEM images showed better paper surface filling by the utilization of the chemicals.

Waste banknote paper is a residue from the banking industry that cannot be recycled due to the presence of ink, microbial load and special coating that provides protection against humidity. As a result, waste banknote paper ends up being burned or buried, which brings environmental impacts, mainly caused by the presence of heavy metals in its composition. To minimize the environmental impacts that come from the disposal of waste banknote paper, this study proposes to produce value-added products (bioethanol and biogas) from waste banknote paper.

Background: Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) is limited to produce AgNPs with only relatively low concentrations, and is unsuitable for large-scale productions. The use of Myrtus communis (MC) leaf methanolic extract (rich in hydrolyzable tannins) has been recommended to resolve the issues related to the aggregation of nanoparticles at high concentrations of silver ions with added facet of antioxidant properties.

Methods: The produced highly concentrated MC-AgNPs were characterized by using imaging and spectroscopic methods.
