Background & Aims: Plant-based diets are associated with a lower risk of chronic diseases. Large-scale proteomics can identify objective biomarkers of plant-based diets, and improve our understanding of the pathways that link plant-based diets to health outcomes. This study investigated the plasma proteome of four different plant-based diets [overall plant-based diet (PDI), provegetarian diet, healthful plant-based diet (hPDI), and unhealthful plant-based diet (uPDI)] in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) Study and replicated the findings in the Framingham Heart Study (FHS) Offspring cohort.

Considerations for working with Asian Americans across the psychosis spectrum following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the rise of anti-Asian racism and discrimination that followed the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need to improve Asian Americans' (AA) connection to and experiences with clinical care is critical. AA at risk for or experiencing psychosis represent a particularly vulnerable subset of a population that already exhibits low service utilization and a multitude of barriers to mental health care treatment. Considering that victimization and discrimination were well-documented factors that exacerbate psychotic symptoms prepandemic, preparing clinicians to adequately support this already hard-to-reach population warrants special attention.

Aging is a non-modifiable understudied risk factor for hypertension. We hypothesized that sympathetically mediated activation of renal sodium reabsorption drives age-dependent hypertension and the salt sensitivity of blood pressure (BP). Using 3-, 8-, and 16-month-old male and female Sprague-Dawley rats as a model of normal aging, we assessed BP, indices of sympathetic tone, and the physiological responses to acute and chronic sodium challenge including sodium chloride cotransporter (NCC) regulation.

The Relationship Between Postural Torticollis Abnormalities and Plagiocephaly on the Early Motor Development Milestones of Lying and Rolling Activities in Infants: A Retrospective Study.

The study examined how neck muscle imbalance and plagiocephaly affect the lying and rolling activities in 118 infants aged 4 to 6 months with postural torticollis. Outcome measures included age, sex, cervical movement, and plagiocephaly severity. Neck muscle function was assessed with the Muscle Function Scale (MFS), and infant motor abilities in lying and rolling were evaluated through the corresponding dimensions of the Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM).

Chagas disease is an underrecognized, chronic, and potentially life-threatening disease caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi. We aimed to improve awareness and screening for Chagas disease among patients from endemic areas using a large safety-net academic hospital system in the United States.
