With the objective of developing new methods to acquire diagnostic information, the reconstruction of the broadband absorption coefficient spectra (μ [λ]) of healthy and chromophobe renal cell carcinoma kidney tissues was performed. By performing a weighted sum of the absorption spectra of proteins, DNA, oxygenated, and deoxygenated hemoglobin, lipids, water, melanin, and lipofuscin, it was possible to obtain a good match of the experimental μ (λ) of both kidney conditions. The weights used in those reconstructions were estimated using the least squares method, and assuming a total water content of 77% in both kidney tissues, it was possible to calculate the concentrations of the other tissue components.

While microbubbles (MB) are routinely used for ultrasound (US) imaging, magnetic MB are increasingly explored as they can be guided to specific sites of interest by applied magnetic field gradient. This requires the MB shell composition tuning to prolong MB stability and provide functionalization capabilities with magnetic nanoparticles. Hence, we developed air-filled MB stabilized by a protein-polymer complex of bovine serum albumin (BSA) and poly-L-arginine (pArg) of different molecular weights, showing that pArg of moderate molecular weight distribution (15-70 kDa) enabled MB with greater stability and acoustic response while preserving MB narrow diameters and the relative viability of THP-1 cells after 48 h of incubation.

MXenes are two-dimensional (2D) materials with a great potential for sensor applications due to their high aspect ratio and fully functionalized surface that can be tuned for specific gas adsorption. Here, we demonstrate that the NbCT-based sensor exhibits high performance towards alcohol vapors at temperatures up to 300-350 °C, with the best sensitivity towards ethanol. We attribute the observed remarkable chemiresistive effect of this material to the formation of quasi-2D NbO sheets as the result of the oxidation of Nb-based MXenes.

Two approaches to the synthesis of 2D binary identifiers ("fingerprints") of DNA-associated symbol sequences are considered in this paper. One of these approaches is based on the simulation of polarization-dependent diffraction patterns formed by reading the modeled DNA-associated 2D phase-modulating structures with a coherent light beam. In this case, 2D binarized distributions of close-to-circular extreme polarization states are applied as fingerprints of analyzed nucleotide sequences.
