Luminescent carbon nanostructures (CNSs) have been intensively researched, but there is still no consensus on a fundamental understanding of their structure and properties that limits their potential applications. In this study, we developed a facile approach to the synthesis of luminescent composite SiO nanoparticles/CNSs by the targeted formation of a molecular fluorophore, as the significant luminescent component of CNSs, on the surface of a silica matrix during a one-stage hydrothermal synthesis. Silica nanoparticles were synthesized by reverse microemulsion and used as a matrix for luminescent composites.

Unlabelled: Sweat gland activity and peripheral hemodynamics, which characterize the function of sympathetic cholinergic nerve fibers and the manifestation mechanisms of vascular tone regulation, respectively, can be detected via dynamic thermography of the skin. Thus, they are useful parameters for diagnosing various forms of neuropathy and functional circulatory disorders. Both parameters affect the dynamics of the skin temperature; therefore, for an adequate description of thermographic data, it is necessary to build models that consider both these coexisting components simultaneously.

This paper describes the use of cyclodextrins (CDs) to improve the determination of fluoroquinolone antibiotics in human body fluids using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). CDs were used to (i) prepare the CD-SERS substrate (synthesis and stabilization of silver nanoparticles), (ii) increase the sensitivity of the assay by enhancing the interaction between analyte molecules and the substrate, and (iii) improve the analysis accuracy by reducing the interaction between the substrate and endogenous components of body fluids. Two native CDs (α-CD and β-CD) and two of their derivatives with hydroxypropyl groups were tested, and the best results were obtained with CD-SERS substrate prepared using native β-CD.

Relying on empirical and quantum chemical methods, a hybrid nanocomposite based on the T-shaped carbon nanotube (CNT) junction and internal fullerene C is proposed as a potential triple-value memory cell. The T-shaped CNT provides three potential wells where the internal fullerene can be located. The fullerene can move between these wells under the periodic external electric field, whose strength and frequency parameters are identified.

Gold nanoparticles as part of vaccines greatly increase antigen stability, antigen accumulation in the lymph nodes, and antigen uptake by antigen-presenting cells. The use of such particles as part of anticancer vaccines based on heat shock proteins to increase vaccine effectiveness is timely. We prepared and characterized nanoconjugates based on 15-nm gold nanoparticles and thermostable tumor antigens isolated from MH22a murine hepatoma cells.

Introduction: Sleep is increasingly recognized as a major risk factor for neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease (AD).
Methods: Using an magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based AD score based on clinical data from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative 1 (ADNI1) case-control cohort, we investigated the associations between polysomnography-based sleep macro-architecture and AD-related brain atrophy patterns in 712 pre-symptomatic, healthy subjects from the population-based Study of Health in Pomerania.
Results: We identified a robust inverse association between slow-wave sleep and the AD marker (estimate: -0.

A new promising trend in personalized medicine is the use of autologous cells (macrophages or stem cells) for cell-based therapy and also as a "Trojan horse" for targeted delivery of a drug carrier. The natural ability of macrophages for chemotaxis allows them to deliver cargo to the damaged area, significantly reducing side effects on healthy organ tissues. Therefore, it is important to develop tools to track their behavior in the organism.

Background: The development of new methods for modulation of drug distribution across to the brain is a crucial step in the effective therapies for glioblastoma (GBM). In our previous work, we discovered the phenomenon of music-induced opening of the blood-brain barrier (OBBB) in healthy rodents. In this pilot study on rats, we clearly demonstrate that music-induced BBB opening improves the therapeutic effects of bevacizumab (BZM) in rats with GBM increasing BZM distribution to the brain along the cerebral vessels.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) causes, among other things, intermittent blood oxygen desaturations, increasing the sympathetic tone. Yet the effect of desaturations on heart rate variability (HRV), a simple and noninvasive method for assessing sympathovagal balance, has not been comprehensively studied. We aimed to study whether desaturation severity affects the immediate HRV.

The mechanisms of transport of substances in the brain parenchyma have been a hot topic in scientific discussion in the past decade. This discussion was triggered by the proposed glymphatic hypothesis, which assumes a directed flow of cerebral fluid within the parenchyma, in contrast to the previous notion that diffusion is the main mechanism. However, when discussing the issue of "diffusion or non-diffusion", much less attention was given to the question that diffusion itself can have a different character.

We analyze the radiative heat transfer between two parallel and infinitely long carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The radiative heat exchange is due to the difference between the Poynting vectors generated by the fluctuating currents when the CNTs are at different temperatures. The radiated and absorbed Poynting vectors are expressed in terms of the correlations of the electromagnetic fields obtained from the Green's function and the fluctuation-dissipation theorem for the current density.
