Significance: The clinical use of optical methods for skin imaging is limited by skin strong scattering properties, which reduce image contrast and probing depth. The efficiency of optical methods can be improved by optical clearing (OC). However, for the use of OC agents (OCAs) in a clinical setting, compliance with acceptable non-toxic concentrations is required.

Taxonomic diversity of Late Cretaceous hesperornithids (Aves: Hesperornithidae) of European Russia and Eastern Europe as a whole remain poorly understood, and the morphology of these large flightless birds is poorly known. New finds of Hesperornithidae in the Karyakino locality (Saratov oblast, Russia) confirm the coexistence of two forms of these flightless seabirds in the Campanian (mid-Late Cretaceous) of the Lower Volga region. A femur is described for the first time for Hesperornis rossicus Nessov et Yarkov, 1993, indicating that this large species is morphologically distinct from North American H.

The intravesical instillation procedure is a proven method in modern urology for the treatment of bladder diseases. However, the low therapeutic efficiency and painfulness of the instillation procedure are significant limitations of this method. In the present study, we propose an approach to solving this problem by using microsized mucoadhesive macromolecular carriers based on whey protein isolate with the possibility of prolonged release of drugs as a drug delivery system.

The purpose of this work is to study the influence of the electric field strength of an electromagnetic wave with the maximum modifying effect on an epoxy basalt-filled oligomer, which is of great scientific and practical importance for the development of microwave oligomer modification technology. The optimal modes of microwave modification, under which the highest values of the mechanical properties of an epoxy basalt-filled polymer composite material are obtained, are identified: power of 400 W and an exposure time of 24 s. At the same time, the breaking stress in bending increases by 20%, the impact strength increases by 2 times, and hardness increases by 31%.

The results of experimental studies of ohmic conductivity degradation in the ensembles of nanostructured anatase bridges under a long-term effect of direct current are presented. Stochastic sets of partially conducting inter-electrode bridges consisting of close-packed anatase nanoparticles were formed by means of the seeding particles from drying aqueous suspensions on the surfaces of silica substrates with interdigital platinum electrodes. Multiple-run experiments conducted at room temperature have shown that ohmic conductivity degradation in these systems is irreversible.

Gold nanoparticles are widely used in laser biomedical applications due to their favorable properties, mainly localized plasmon resonance. However, laser radiation can cause a change in the shape and size of plasmonic nanoparticles, thus resulting in an unwanted reduction of their photothermal and photodynamic efficiency due to a drastic alteration of optical properties. Most previously reported experiments were carried out with bulk colloids where different particles were irradiated by different numbers of laser pulses, thus making it difficult to accurately evaluate the laser power photomodification (PM) threshold.

The combination of spinel LiTiO (LTO) with carbon nanostructures, such as graphene (G) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs), provides all of the required properties for modern chemical power sources such as Li-ion batteries (LIBs) and supercapacitors (SCs). G/LTO and CNT/LTO composites demonstrate a superior reversible capacity, cycling stability, and good rate performances. In this paper, an ab initio attempt to estimate the electronic and capacitive properties of such composites was made for the first time.

The search for novel therapeutic strategies to treat fungal diseases is of special importance nowadays given the emerging threat of drug resistance. Various particulate delivery systems are extensively being developing to enhance bioavailability, site-specific penetration, and therapeutic efficacy of antimycotics. Recently, we have designed a novel topical formulation for griseofulvin (Gf) drug, which is currently commercially available in oral dosage forms due to its limited skin permeation.

Splitting of the ground state and some excited symmetric bending vibrational states due to inversion tunneling of the oxygen atom in the HO, HO ions and in the HO radical are analyzed by numerically solving the vibrational Schrödinger equation of restricted (2D) dimensionality. As two vibrational coordinates, we used 1) the distance of the oxygen atom from the plane of a regular triangle formed by three hydrogen atoms and 2) a symmetry coordinate composed of three distances between chemically non-bonded hydrogen atoms. The kinetic energy operator in this case takes the simplest form.

We study numerically the spatiotemporal dynamics in a ring network of nonlocally coupled nonlinear oscillators, each represented by a two-dimensional discrete-time model of the classical van der Pol oscillator. It is shown that the discretized oscillator exhibits richer behavior, combining the peculiarities of both the original system and its own dynamics. Moreover, a large variety of spatiotemporal structures is observed in the network of discrete van der Pol oscillators when the discretization parameter and the coupling strength are varied.
