Genomic selection has an essential role in the livestock economy by increasing selection productivity. Genomics provides a mechanism to increase the rate of genetic gain using marker-assisted selection. Various quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with body, carcass and meat quality traits in beef cattle have been found.

Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin is a predictor of complications in the early phase of ST-elevation myocardial infarction.

Aim To evaluate a correlation of serum level of neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) to the risk of the occurrence of complications in patients with the early phase of ST-segment elevation myocardical infarction (STEMI) treated with fibrinolytic therapy prior to percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods A total of 54 patients with the diagnosis of STEMI treated with fibrinolytic therapy (alteplase) prior to PCI were included. Patients were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Clinic for Heart, Blood Vessel and Rheumatic Diseases in the period January to March 2018.

Renal Tuberculosis Following Intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) Immunotherapy for the Treatment of Bladder Cancer.

Introduction: Non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) is usually effectively treated with transurethral resection (TUR), most often followed by intravesical instillation of bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) or intravesical chemotherapy. Although the precise mechanism of BCG immunotherapy is still unclear, a local immune response is presumed. However, a number of severe side effects and complications are related to intravesical immunotherapy.

The effect of exposure to fiction on attributional complexity, egocentric bias and accuracy in social perception.

We investigated the effects of long-term exposure to literary and popular fiction on attributional complexity, egocentric bias and accuracy. Results of a pre-registered study showed that exposure to literary fiction is positively associated with scores on the attributional complexity scale. Literary fiction is also associated with accuracy in mentalizing, measured via the Reading the Mind in the Eyes test, and with accuracy in predicting average social attitudes.

Whole-body magnetic resonance imaging in pediatric oncology - recommendations by the Oncology Task Force of the ESPR.

The purpose of this recommendation of the Oncology Task Force of the European Society of Paediatric Radiology (ESPR) is to indicate reasonable applications of whole-body MRI in children with cancer and to address useful protocols to optimize workflow and diagnostic performance. Whole-body MRI as a radiation-free modality has been increasingly performed over the last two decades, and newer applications, as in screening of children with germ-line mutation cancer-related gene defects, are now widely accepted. We aim to provide a comprehensive outline of the diagnostic value for use in daily practice.

Association of PC and AT levels in the early phase of STEMI treated with pPCI with LV systolic function and 6-month MACE.

Objectives: To examine a relationship between protein C (PC) and antithrombin III (AT III) activities with ejection fraction of left ventricle (EFLV), in the early phase of acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI), and to investigate whether PC and AT III are associated with major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) within 6 months following from pPCI.

Patients And Methods: The research had a prospective character and included 357 patients who had, following the diagnosis of the STEMI, undergone pPCI at the Clinic of Cardiology and Emergency Internal Medicine, Military Medical Academy, Belgrade, Serbia, from January 2010 until April 2019.

Introduction: Ramadan is the holy month of Muslims including fasting sometimes more than 20 hours. Even diabetes patients can be exempted from fasting it has been shown that almost 80% of diabetes type 2 patients intend and do fasting. To avoid acute complications during fasting, different recommendations on diabetes management are available.

Identification of developmental disorders including autism spectrum disorder using salivary miRNAs in children from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by major social, communication and behavioural challenges. The cause of ASD is still unclear and it is assumed that environmental, genetic and epigenetic factors influence the risk of ASD occurrence. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short 21-25 nucleotide long RNA molecules which post-transcriptionally regulate gene expression.

The Role of MicroRNAs in Muscle Tissue Development in Beef Cattle.

In this review, we highlight information on microRNA (miRNA) identification and functional characterization in the beef for muscle and carcass composition traits, with an emphasis on Qinchuan beef cattle, and discuss the current challenges and future directions for the use of miRNA as a biomarker in cattle for breeding programs to improve meat quality and carcass traits. MicroRNAs are endogenous and non-coding RNA that have the function of making post-transcriptional modifications during the process of preadipocyte differentiation in mammals. Many studies claim that diverse miRNAs have an impact on adipogenesis.

Cardiac biomarkers and left ventricular systolic function in acute myocardial infarction with ST- segment elevation in diabetes mellitus type 2 patients.

Aim To determine a status of systolic function in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) type 2 with ST-segment elevation acute myocardial infarction (STEMI), to determine values of cardiac biomarkers in patients with DM type 2 with STEMI and correlate the parameters with ejection fraction of left ventricle (EFLV). Methods A total of 80 patients were divided into two groups, the study group (group I) consisting of 40 patients admitted with the diagnosis of DM type 2 and STEMI, and a control group (group II) with 40 patients with STEMI without diagnosed DM type 2. Cardiac biomarkers - creatine kinase MB fraction (CKMB), and troponin I were monitored.

Conjoined twins - A case report of prenatal diagnosis of cephalothoracoomphalopagus.

Conjoined twins are an exceptionally rare phenomenon caused by partial separation of an early embryo after the twelfth day of fertilization. In this article we are reporting a case of conjoined twins diagnosed in our department. During a examination in the XXI week of gestation, a 24 years old woman, with the presence of labial herpes simplex following an ultrasound examination was suspected of carrying conjoined twins.

Use of chest CT scan scoring system for diagnostic and therapeutic decision making in pleural effusion.

Aim To investigate the usage of chest computed tomography (CT) scan score for improvement in diagnostic and treatment efficacy of repetitive pleural effusion. Methods CT scan scoring system was used as a part of diagnostic procedures in patients with repetitive pleural effusion. Patients with at least two pleurocentesis were included in the study.

Detection and analysis of stable and flexible genes towards a genome signature framework in cancer.

Comparison and detection of stable cancer genes across cancer types is of interest. The gene expression data of 6 different cancer types (colon, breast, lung, ovarian, brain and renal) and a control group from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database were used in this study. The comparison of gene expression data together with the calculation standard deviations of such data was completed using a statistical model for the detection of stable genes.

INCREASED OASIS INCIDENCE - INDICATOR OF THE QUALITY OF OBSTETRIC CARE?

In the era of new molecular, epigenetic and proteomic discoveries, birth canal injuries seem like outdated discussion. A vast increase in the incidence of obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASIS) has been recorded in the last two decades despite advantages in modern medicine and new obstetric methods. This increase might be attributed to the new classification of perineal injury but also to the new imaging methods, including endoanal sonography, which earlier identifies injuries that previously were considered to be occult and actually underwent unrecognized, and which should have been recognized immediately postpartum.

Pharmacists' Attitudes and Role in Diabetes Management in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Introduction: Diabetes is the fastest growing chronic diseases worldwide and in Bosnia and Herzegovina. International standards for diabetes care have recognized the crucial role of pharmacists in diabetes management. Community pharmacists can provide services beyond medication dispensing inducing patient identification, assessment, education, referral, monitoring and behavioral counseling.

Multi-center results on the clinical use of KANET.

An extensive review of the literature on the diagnostic and clinical accuracy of Kurjak's antenatal neurodevelopmental test (KANET) and the summarized results of the multi-center study involving 10 centers revealed that four-dimensional ultrasonography (4D US) has become a powerful tool and KANET a valuable test that empowers the clinicians worldwide to evaluate the fetal behavior in a systematic way and contribute to the detection of fetuses that might be at high risk for neurological impairments and in particular cerebral palsy (CP). After 10 years of clinical use, many published papers and multi-center studies, hundreds of trained physicians and numerous tests performed all over the world, KANET has proven its value and has been showing encouraging results so far. The aim of this paper is to show the results from the studies done so far and to reveal the clinical value of the KANET.

Advances of Molecular Markers and Their Application for Body Variables and Carcass Traits in Qinchuan Cattle.

This review considers the unique characteristics of Chinese cattle and intramuscular fat content (IMF) as factors influencing meat quality, including tenderness, flavor, and juiciness of meat. Due to its nutritional qualities, meat contributes to a healthy and balanced diet. The intramuscular fat content and eating quality of beef are influenced by many factors, which can generally be divided into on-farm and pre-slaughter factors (breed, sex of cattle, age at slaughter, housing system, diet, and pre-slaughter handling) and postmortem factors (post-slaughter processing, chilling temperature, and packaging).

Introduction: Food supplements utilization is showing increasing trend among healthy as well as chronic disease population. Diabetes as a pandemic disease is treated by different interventions and traditional pharmacological treatment, but also utilization of natural products and food supplements (FS) are becoming important. Role of the pharmacist in diabetes management includes different interventions like counseling and recommendation of FS.

Provoked venous thromboembolism during ten-year follow up at the Clinical Centre University of Sarajevo.

Aim To determine risk factors for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in hospitalized patients in a 10-year follow-up. Methods In this observational study data were collected from the disease history of patients admitted to the Department of Angiology of the Clinical Centre University of Sarajevo in the period of 10 years (2008-2017). Of 6246 hospitalized patients, 1154 were with established diagnosis of DVT and included in the study as a basic inclusion criterion.

Introduction: The most appropriate choice of pharmacological treatment of heart rhythm disorders occurring in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and cardiovascular comorbidity is often a topic of debate between pulmonologists and cardiologists in clinical practice, although numerous studies and clinical trials have demonstrated evidence to support the use of selective beta-blockers (BBs) in these patients.

Aim: To examine the difference in the number of exacerbations in patients treated with a combination of verapamil and digoxin or BB alone in patients with different COPD stages.

Patients And Methods: The study included 68 patients (n = 68) diagnosed with COPD who were followed-up during a 12-month period, and the number of exacerbations were analyzed.

Correct choice and administration of a statistical test are absolutely essential for meaningful interpretation of research data, yet mistakes are still frequent and could be easily found in published scientific papers or PhD theses. The aim of this study was to analyze mistakes made by PhD students in statistical analysis of data collected during research within the framework of their thesis. PhD students frequently use Excel and SPSS for data processing, while SAS, Stata and R are also available.

Current Management of Mirror Distal Anterior Cerebral Artery Aneurysms in Association with Multiple Aneurysms: Case Report with Literature Review.

Background: Mirror aneurysms represent 2 adjacent arterial protrusions. Although the size is considered a major risk factor in terms of rupture, sometimes it is the smaller aneurysm that ruptures. Here, we present the contemporary management of mirror distal anterior cerebral artery (DACA) aneurysms associated with multiple aneurysms.

Short-term changes in renal function in children and adolescents undergoing extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy.

Aim To identify short-term effects of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) on renal function in children and adolescents with single kidney stones. Methods In a 4-year period 30 children (15 boys and 15 girls) from 10 to 18 years of age were treated for unilateral renal stones with ESWL. Inclusion criteria were: up to 18 years of age, kidney stone (from 4 to 20 mm in diameter) visible on X-ray, first ESWL treatment, unilateral lithotripsy treatment without previous kidney surgery, patients without infravesical obstruction, patients without proven urinary infection, repeated use of one (the same) analgesic, patients without anticoagulant and antihypertensive therapy, patients without use of nephrotoxic drugs prior to and during the treatment, normal blood pressure, non-pregnancy patients with normal renal function.
