Temporary intravascular shunting (TIVS) is an effective method to shorten the duration of ischemia and contribute to limb salvage in the treatment of popliteal artery injury (PAI). Traditionally used shunt tubes require ligation or clamping to the blood vessel, which has the disadvantage of causing secondary damage to the vessel. We present two cases in which TIVS was performed using the Pruitt-F3 Carotid Shunt (LeMaitre Vascular Inc.

Background:  Japanese Association for Acute Medicine (JAAM) disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) criteria were launched nearly 20 years ago. Following the revised conceptual definition of sepsis and subsequent omission of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) score from the latest sepsis diagnostic criteria, we omitted the SIRS score and proposed a modified version of JAAM DIC criteria, the JAAM-2 DIC criteria.

Objectives:  To validate and compare performance between new JAAM-2 DIC criteria and conventional JAAM DIC criteria for sepsis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the clinical outcomes and performance of the SAPIEN 3 Ultra RESILIA (S3UR) valve compared to the SAPIEN 3 (S3) valve in patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
  • Results showed no significant differences in in-hospital complications like death and vascular issues between the two groups, but the S3UR group had a lower incidence of paravalvular leakage and better pressure gradients.
  • The findings suggest that while procedural complications are similar, the S3UR valve performs better, especially in smaller sizes, addressing some limitations of existing balloon-expandable valves.

Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Tokeidai Memorial Hospital, 2-3, North-1, East-1, Chuo-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido, 060-0031, Japan.

One of the major problems associated with bare nitinol stent implantation is stent fracture, particularly in the popliteal artery. The purpose of this study was to determine whether drug coated balloons (DCB), interwoven stents (IWS), or plain old balloon angioplasty (POBA) would be suitable for use in distal femoropopliteal (FP) long lesions when an Eluvia stent was implanted proximal to a lesion. This was a multi-center retrospective study enrolling patients undergoing concomitant use of Eluvia with DCB, IWS or POBA for symptomatic atherosclerotic femoropopliteal disease (lesion length > 15 cm) [Rutherford category 2-6] between January 2018 and September 2021.
