Bacterial nanocellulose (BNC) has attracted considerable attention in the field of biomedical engineering due to its potential for use in bone regeneration applications. The present study investigates the in vitro and in vivo efficacy of bacterial nanocellulose (BNC) combined with calcium and cerium ions (BNC-Ce:CaP) in bone regeneration applications. XRD analysis confirmed the presence of monetite and hydroxyapatite phases in BNC-CaP, while BNC-Ce:CaP revealed an additional brushite phase.

Long Covid results from the damage caused by SARS-CoV-2, involving the release of cytokines and the continuous activation of immune cells. This cross-sectional study investigates leukocyte and cytokine profiles in Long Covid patients in the Amazon, a region where such studies are limited. Blood samples were analysed for differential leukocyte counts and cytokine levels.

Breast cancer stands as the most common form of malignancy among women globally, and it showcases commendable rates of cure when detected in early-stage and non-metastatic conditions. To overcome drug resistance and side effects observed in conventional chemotherapy, the present study aims to deliver rapamycin (RAP), a mTOR protein inhibitor, into a nanostructured lipid carrier (NLC) functionalized with folic acid for promoting active targeting to breast cancer cells. In the first step, the synthesis of 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphatidylethanolamine-N-[amino(polyethylene glycol)-2000] (ammonium salt) with folic acid (DSPE-PEG-FA) was successfully performed and characterized by UV spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, and infrared spectroscopy.

Psoriasis is a chronic and recurrent inflammatory skin disease characterized by abnormal proliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes and activation of immune cells. However, the molecular driver that triggers this immune response in psoriatic skin remains unclear. The inflammation-related gene absent in melanoma 2 (AIM2) was identified as a susceptibility gene/locus associated with psoriasis.

Background: The elevated blood pressure (BP) and lower cardiac autonomic modulation (CAM) are associated with higher morbidity mortality risk among older adults. Although exercise is an important intervention for cardiovascular promotion, it is unclear whether combat sports training could benefit cardiovascular outcomes as much as autonomic in this population. This study compared the effects of 12 weeks of Muay Thai (MT) training against functional training (FT) on CAM and hemodynamic parameters in older adults.

Unlabelled: Given the advancement of behavioral research in culture and social behavior, it seems natural for the community of behavior analysts to progress towards increased political engagement and a dedication to social justice. To reach this goal, it is necessary to act inside one's own communities and organizations. The purpose of this article is to report on the efforts of the Brazilian Association for Behavioral Psychology and Medicine (ABPMC) to increase equity and social justice during the 2017-2018 term.

Electroejaculation (EE) represents the main technique for semen collection from domestic and wild animals independently of libido. However, the technique is associated with intense involuntary muscle contractions, vocalization, ataxia and lying down, caused by the electric stimulation of the nerves in the caudal epigastric region. These clinical manifestations represent important indicators of discomfort.

Amphotericin B (AmB) is the gold standard for antifungal drugs. However, AmB systemic administration is restricted because of its side effects. Here, we report AmB loaded in natural rubber latex (NRL), a sustained delivery system with low toxicity, which stimulates angiogenesis, cell adhesion and accelerates wound healing.

The Feature-based Molecular Networking (FBMN) is a well-known approach for mapping and identifying structures and analogues. However, in the absence of prior knowledge about the molecular class, assessing specific fragments and clusters requires time-consuming manual validation. This study demonstrates that combining FBMN and Mass Spec Query Language (MassQL) is an effective strategy for accelerating the decoding mass fragmentation pathways and identifying molecules with comparable fragmentation patterns, such as beauvericin and its analogues.

Background And Objective: The resorption of alveolar ridge bone and maxillary sinus pneumatization are challenges to implant-supported prosthetic rehabilitation. Bone regeneration using bone substitutes and growth factors are alternatives for maxillary sinus augmentation (MSA). Therefore, we sought to evaluate the effects of the association between leukocyte and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) and deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM) in MSA procedures.

The development of advanced biomaterials and manufacturing processes to fabricate biologically and mechanically appropriate scaffolds for bone tissue is a significant challenge. Polycaprolactone (PCL) is a biocompatible and degradable polymer used in bone tissue engineering, but it lacks biofunctionalization. Bioceramics, such as hydroxyapatite (HA) and β tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP), which are similar chemically to native bone, can facilitate both osteointegration and osteoinduction whilst improving the biomechanics of a scaffold.

The use of identical prosthetic components for all implant diameters could reduce the production costs by companies and the complexity of component selection for the clinician and his team. However, it would imply in reduction of thickness of the cervical walls of tapered internal connection implants, which could compromise the reliability of narrow and extra-narrow implants. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the probability of survival and failure modes of extra-narrow implant systems with the same internal diameter as standard-diameter implants using the same prosthetic components.

Silicon (Si) application, especially via foliar application, may be promising to attenuate oxidative damage, as Si can improve the non-enzymatic antioxidant system of cotton flowers. However, studies that address the relationship between boron (B) and Si in cotton flowers are still scarce. Therefore, this paper aimed to evaluate the effect of silicon alone and added to the borate solution applied via foliar spray on the oxidative stress; proline, carotenoid, and phenol contents; and biomass production of cotton flowers grown under moderate B deficiency.
