Phase IV adaptive randomised clinical trials evaluating efficacy and cost-efficacy of pre-emptive pharmacogenetic genotyping strategies in the Spanish National Health System: iPHARMGx Master Protocol and PREVESTATGx nested clinical trial.

Introduction: Genetic variations impact drug response, driving the need for personalised medicine through pre-emptive pharmacogenetic testing. However, the adoption of pre-emptive pharmacogenetic testing for commonly prescribed drugs, such as statins, outside of tertiary hospitals is limited due to a lack of pharmacoeconomic evidence to support widespread implementation by healthcare policy-makers. The Spanish Consortium for the Implementation of Pharmacogenetics (iPHARMGx Consortium) addresses this by developing a clinical trial master protocol that will govern multiple nested adaptive clinical trials that compare genotype-guided treatments to standard care in specific drug-gene-population triads, asses their cost-efficacy and identify novel biomarkers through advanced sequencing techniques.

Numerical Simulation of Autoresonant Ion Oscillations in an Anharmonic Electrostatic Trap.

This work presents the results of modeling the ion dynamics in the ART-MS (Autoresonant Trap Mass Spectrometry) device in the quasi-static approximation. This instrument utilizes an anharmonic, purely electrostatic trap for ion confinement and a radio frequency (RF) voltage source with decrementally varying frequency for selective ion extraction. The autoresonant interaction between the oscillatory motion of the ion and the RF voltage increases the amplitude of some confined ions, allowing their selective extraction.

Experience of Hyperbaric Chamber Usage in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Practice for Recovery and Complication Prevention.

Background: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) increases oxygen concentration in affected tissues that enhance the cellular hypoxia recovery process, neovascularization, fibroblast proliferation, increased reactive oxygen species, suppression of proinflammatory states, and vascular compression. The aim of this article is to demonstrate the experience in the use of the hyperbaric chamber as an adjunctive management for the prompt recovery of patients who underwent aesthetic plastic surgery.

Methods: A retrospective descriptive study was conducted between 2021 and 2023, involving 296 patients who received HBOT after aesthetic surgical procedures, to demonstrate the recuperation time rate and the complication incidence in postoperative patients using HBOT.

Exploring the longitudinal course of motor dexterity in first-episode psychosis: a 10-year follow-up.

This study aimed to examine longitudinal changes in motor dexterity (MD) performance in first episode of psychosis (FEP), focusing on diagnosis-specific trajectories. Participants were recruited from the project PAFIP in Spain (134 FEP, 84 HC). MD was assessed using the Grooved Pegboard Test at baseline and at 10-year follow-up.

Background: Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is the most prevalent degenerative musculoskeletal disorder, which is particularly common in older population. While conventional treatments have limited effectiveness, the development of more effective therapeutic strategies is necessary to address this primary source of pain and disability. Umbilical cord mesenchymal stromal cells (UC-MSCs) offer a promising therapeutic approach for treating knee OA.

Polarization-insensitive optical coherence tomography using pseudo-depolarized reference light for mitigating birefringence-related image artifacts.

Significance: Optical coherence tomography (OCT) images are prone to image artifacts due to the birefringence of the sample or the optical system when a polarized light source is used for imaging. These artifacts can lead to degraded image quality and diagnostic information.

Aim: We aim to mitigate these birefringence-related artifacts in OCT images by adding a depolarizer module in the reference arm of the interferometer.

Establishment of 3D Cultures of Myometrium, Leiomyoma, and Leiomyosarcoma Cells: Advantages and Disadvantages of Two Different Models.

Uterine leiomyomas are the most common benign, monoclonal, gynaecological tumors in a woman's uterus, while leiomyosarcoma is a rare but aggressive condition caused by the malignant transformation of the myometrium. To overcome the common obstacles related to the methods usually used to study these pathologies, we aimed to devise three-dimensional models of myometrium, uterine leiomyoma and leiomyosarcoma cell lines, using two different types of biocompatible scaffolds. Specifically, we exploited the agarose gel matrix in common 6-well plates and the alginate matrix using Bioprinting INKREDIBLE + (CELLINK), a pneumatic extruded base equipped with a system with double printheads, and a UV printer LED curing system.

Ocean ecosystems have been subjected to anthropogenic influences for centuries, but the scale of past ecosystem changes is often unknown. For centuries, the European flat oyster (Ostrea edulis), an ecosystem engineer providing biogenic reef habitats, was a culturally and economically significant source of food and trade. These reef habitats are now functionally extinct, and almost no memory of where or at what scales this ecosystem once existed, or its past form, remains.

Objective: Our objective was to assess trends in three sexually transmitted infections (STIs) - gonorrhoea, chlamydia and syphilis - in Spain, by age group and sex from 2016 to 2022.

Study Design: Retrospective observational study.

Methods: Data from epidemiological surveillance system were used to calculate the incidence rate for each STIs by age group and sex.

Aims: Despite increasing evidence demonstrating the safety of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs), this procedure is often neglected in this population. This Spanish registry aimed to determine the proportion of MRI referrals and performance among patients with pacemakers (PMs) or implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs).

Methods And Results: This prospective, multicentre, open-label registry involved 21 Spanish centres.

Automated prediction of phosphorus concentration in soils using reflectance spectroscopy and machine learning algorithms.

A method is presented for predicting total phosphorus concentration in soils from Santander de Quilichao, Colombia, using a UV-VIS V-750 Spectrophotometer and machine learning techniques. A total of 152 soil samples, prepared with varying proportions of PO fertilizer and soil, were analyzed, obtaining reflectance spectra in the 200 to 900 nm range with 3501 wavelengths. Additionally, 152 laboratory results of total phosphorus concentration were used to train the prediction model.

Characteristics of emotional and sexuality education programs in the Spanish school population.

Sexuality education should be integrated into educational centers as a human right of children and adolescents, and an international recommendation based on scientific evidence. This study sought to identify the sexuality education interventions that were carried out in Spain in year 2021-2022, and to analyze whether they are in line with best practice recommendations. A descriptive study was carried out, considering organization territorial called Autonomous Communities as the unit of study, through key informants identified by purposive sampling.

QRISK3 and SCORE2 are equally reliable predictors of carotid plaques in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.

Objectives: Cardiovascular (CV) disease is the leading cause of death among patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This study aimed to compare the performance of QRESEARCH-risk estimator version 3 (QRISK3) and the Systematic Coronary Risk Evaluation-2 (SCORE2) scores to identify SLE patients at high risk of CV events, as indicated by the presence of carotid plaques.

Methods: Subclinical atherosclerosis was evaluated using carotid ultrasound in 365 SLE patients.

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols aim to expedite patient recovery and reduce health care costs without compromising patient safety or satisfaction. Its principles have been adopted in various surgical specialties but have not fully encompassed all areas of neurosurgery, including craniotomy.

Long term outcomes from uncorrected hypospadias: a scoping review.

Introduction: The goal of hypospadias repair is to optimize urinary and sexual function, improve cosmesis and minimise the psychosocial effects associated with a penile anomaly. However, a lack of clarity exists regarding the role of surgery in milder hypospadias where the anomaly is inconspicuous and there is no anticipated impact on function. The aim of this study was to review the long term functional, cosmetic and psychosocial outcomes in men with uncorrected hypospadias.

Search for the Z Boson Decay to ττμμ in Proton-Proton Collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV.

The first search for the Z boson decay to ττμμ at the CERN LHC is presented, based on data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138  fb^{-1}. The data are compatible with the predicted background. For the first time, an upper limit at the 95% confidence level of 6.

Objective: This study evaluates the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of an oncological outpatient neurosurgery protocol using enhanced recovery after surgery principles in a European healthcare setting. Additionally, it assesses the impact of incorporating hospital at home (HaH) for perioperative follow-up on program efficiency and costs.

Methods: We analyzed a case cohort of patients who underwent oncological outpatient neurosurgery with HaH-based postoperative follow-up for tumor removal or biopsy at a tertiary care center since 2019.

Experiences of life and intersectionality of people with low vision: A qualitative approach.

Significance: Low vision is a public health priority disability condition. People with this condition face multiple types of discrimination in a society that is not accustomed to diversity.
