Background: The occurrence of surface irregularities in the abdomen after liposuction is frequent and can be due to the fact that more liposuctions are being done nowadays, and perhaps, the fact that more noncore surgeons are doing it could be an important factor. These superficial changes compromise the aesthetic results of surgery, and their correction is a major technical challenge.
Methods: The author presents a systematized approach for surgical treatment of fibrosis and post liposuction irregularities.

Introduction: Reduced muscle strength and low-exercise capacity are well documented in adults, but there are few studies examining those impairments in children and adolescents after kidney transplantation. The objective of this study was to evaluate peripheral and respiratory muscle strength and the association with submaximal exercise capacity in children and adolescents after kidney transplant.
Methods: Forty-seven patients between six and 18 years of age clinically stable after transplantation were included.

Background & Aims: The Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) proposed a two-step approach for the malnutrition diagnosis: screening to identify "at risk" patients by any validated nutritional screening tool (NST), followed by a detailed nutritional assessment for diagnosis and grading the severity of malnutrition. Since there are several validated NST, this study aimed to evaluate the complementarity of five NST to GLIM criteria for malnutrition diagnosis in a sample of hospitalized patients.
Methods: A secondary analysis of a longitudinal study.

Purpose: Urology has rapidly evolved during the last decades, incorporating new technologies faster than most specialties. The challenge to maintain a competent workforce that is prepared to deliver proper contemporary treatment has become increasingly difficult and newly graduated urologists throughout the world typically lack the skills to practice many urological subspecialties. We performed a survey to evaluate the practice patterns and educational aspirations in functional urology (FU) among Brazilian urologists.

Synovial cysts (SCs) are the most frequent wrist tumors; the arthroscopic treatment presents good results when surgery is indicated for symptomatic or patients with cosmetic concerns. The tumoral lesion should be arthroscopically decompressed or drained toward the inside of the joint through pedicle opening and resection of a small portion of the capsule. Hence, the cyst pedicle must be found for the success of this technique.

The importance of the dorsal ulnar fragment (DUF) for stability and articular congruence of the radius is widely recognized, and standard surgical techniques often fail to ensure its reduction. We describe a modification of volar wrist portals for arthroscopic management of the DUF of the distal radius. It is made in an outside-in fashion in line with the flexor carpi radialis (FCR) approach for the distal radius.

Purpose: To customize and externally validate the recently proposed Simplified Mortality Score for the ICU (SMS-ICU, a simple score for 90-day mortality that has no need for ancillary testing results) for in-hospital mortality and to compare its performance to SAPS 3.
Material And Methods: We used data from two distinct large cohorts of adult Brazilian patients with unplanned ICU admissions to perform a first-level customization (43,017 patients admitted to 78 ICUs) of the original SMS-ICU score for in-hospital mortality and, sequentially, externally validate it (313,365 patients admitted to 99 ICUs). Performance of SMS-ICU was assessed through measurements of discrimination and calibration and compared with SAPS 3.

Background: Topical treatment of mild to moderate psoriasis is first-line treatment and exhibits varying degrees of success across patient groups. Key factors influencing treatment success are physician topical treatment choice (high efficacy, low adverse events) and strict patient adherence. Currently, no formalized, international consensus guidelines exist to direct optimal topical treatment, although many countries have national guidelines.

Background And Aims: The presence of dermatologic reaction as an adverse event to sorafenib treatment in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma has been indicated as a prognostic factor for survival in a recent prospective analysis. To date, this is the only clinical predictor of treatment response, which can be evaluated earlier in the treatment and, therefore, contribute to a better and more individualized patient management.
Material And Methods: This retrospective study included 127 patients treated with sorafenib under real-life practice conditions in two hepatology reference centers in Brazil.

The Banff working group on preimplantation biopsy was established to develop consensus criteria (best practice guidelines) for the interpretation of preimplantation kidney biopsies. Digitally scanned slides were used (i) to evaluate interobserver variability of histopathologic findings, comparing frozen sections with formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue of wedge and needle core biopsies, and (ii) to correlate consensus histopathologic findings with graft outcome in a cohort of biopsies from international medical centers. Intraclass correlations (ICCs) and univariable and multivariable statistical analyses were performed.

Renal failure in cirrhotic patients is a very severe condition. Hepatorenal syndrome has the worst prognosis among all causes of kidney failure in such patients. In this age of expanding choices of therapy for psoriasis, topical therapies still play an important part in the management of patients. There are many knowledge gaps in topical therapy for psoriasis with regard to efficacy and safety as well as various combinations including topical therapy with phototherapy or with systemic agents. Councillors of the International Psoriasis Council comprised a topical therapy working group to describe these gaps in order to help direct future research endeavours.

This report describes an alternative technique for Petit hernia repair. The treatment of lumbar hernias should follow the concept of tension-free surgery, and the preperitoneal space can be the best place for prosthesis placement. An obese patient had a bulge in the right lumbar region, which gradually grew and became symptomatic, limiting her daily activities and jeopardizing her quality of life.

This paper presents an update on degenerative stenosis of the lumbar spine, which is a common pathological condition among patients over the age of 65 years. The anamnesis and physical examination need to be precise, since radiography often only provides indirect signs. Magnetic resonance imaging is necessary if the symptoms persist.
