Knowledge, attitudes and practices in HIV-related chronic inflammation and cardiovascular risk in Spain.

Background: People with HIV (PWH) in suppressive antiretroviral treatment suffer from chronic inflammation-related comorbidities, mainly cardiovascular diseases. However, given the lack of specific evidence about inflammation in PWH, clinical guidelines do not provide recommendations for the management of this issue. To date, physician awareness of inflammation in PWH remains unclear.

Renal Artery Dissection in a Young Woman: Diagnoses Beyond Fibromuscular Dysplasia.

A 31-year-old woman presented at the emergency room after experiencing colic pain in the right iliac fossa for 5 days. She had previously consulted another center, where deterioration of renal function had been identified and abdominal computed tomography (CT) angiography had shown a dissection of the right renal artery, with areas suggestive of infarction in the right kidney, as well as an aneurysm in the left renal artery and a smaller left kidney. The patient had no relevant family or personal history except posttraumatic carotid-cavernous fistula in 2014, which had been treated with embolization.

Outcome of neuropsychiatric symptoms related to an antiretroviral drug following its substitution by nevirapine: the RELAX study.

Objectives: The primary objective was to evaluate the improvement in neuropsychiatric symptoms attributed to an antiretroviral drug after that drug was substituted with nevirapine. The secondary objective was to evaluate the impact on patient adherence and quality of life.

Methods: A prospective, observational study was carried out that included patients with HIV-1 plasma suppression for whom an antiretroviral drug was substituted with nevirapine because of central nervous system (CNS) side effects, a Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) score > 5 or a Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) score ≥ 10, and who had not initiated psychoactive drug treatment during the prior 6 weeks.

Patients undergoing hemodialysis have a lower survival rate than those who receive a kidney transplant. Mortality among hemodialysis patients is approximately 14.5% compared with 1.
