Department of Pathology, Second Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou 310009, China. Electronic address:

Ovarian cancer is the most common type of gynecological malignant tumor, with the highest mortality rate among female genital malignant tumors. In this study, we initially identified forkhead box F1 (FOXF1) as a potential prognostic biomarker of ovarian cancer through bioinformatics analysis. FOXF1 expression was higher in ovarian cancer tissue samples and served as an unfavorable prognostic factor.

Article Synopsis
  • A study investigated the genomic traits of a hypervirulent carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (ST11, KL25) isolate, SM117, from a hospital in China, revealing its rapid global spread.
  • The genome sequencing showed that SM117 has a large chromosome and multiple plasmids, indicating significant antibiotic resistance, particularly to β-lactam antibiotics, with the sole exception being polymyxin.
  • The results contribute to understanding antibiotic resistance mechanisms and the epidemiological characteristics of this multidrug-resistant strain.

Histone deacetylase 5 (HDAC5) is an enzyme that deacetylates lysine residues on the N-terminal of histones and other proteins. It has been reported that HDAC5 deacetylates p53, the critical factor regulating cell cycle, in response to cellular stress, but the transcriptional products haven't been identified. Herein, we used p53 signaling pathway qPCR-chip to determine how HDAC5-mediated deacetylation of p53 affects cell cycle.

Combination of Anatomical Plates and Rotator Cuff Reinforcement for Minimally Invasive Treatment of Greater Tuberosity Fractures of the Humerus.

J Vis Exp

July 2024

Department of Orthopedics, The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University; Alibaba-Zhejiang University Joint Research Center of Future Digital Healthcare, Zhejiang University;

Greater tuberosity fractures of the humerus can be challenging to manage due to their complex anatomy and the potential for compromised shoulder function. We present a novel technique for treating greater tuberosity fractures utilizing specialized anatomical plates and rotator cuff reinforcement. The technique involves the use of an anatomically T-shaped plate designed specifically for the greater tuberosity region of the humerus, allowing for precise fixation and stability.

Background: Anaemia is a severe and common complication in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage (aSAH). Early intervention for at-risk patients before anaemia occurs is indicated as potentially beneficial, but no validated method synthesises patients' complicated clinical features into an instrument. The purpose of the current study was to develop and externally validate a nomogram that predicted postacute phase anaemia after aSAH.

Objective: Metastases in the advanced stages of colorectal cancer (CRC) present a major challenge to its treatment. Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) plays a crucial role in enhancing the metastasis and invasion ability of cancer cells. However, the progress of E2F transcription factor 1 (E2F1) and Regulator of chromatin condensation 1 (RCCD1) in CRC on EMT has not been studied.

  • Raiomics is a new diagnostic tool that shows promise in predicting early recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but its effectiveness is still being evaluated.
  • A meta-analysis reviewed 10 studies involving 1,929 patients, finding that radiomic models had a sensitivity of 79% and specificity of 83% for predicting early recurrence of HCC.
  • Overall, the study suggests that radiomics is a reliable method for diagnosing HCC and is effective in predicting post-surgery recurrence, which can enhance clinical decision-making.

As the third most common type of cancer globally, colorectal cancer (CC) is a prevalent digestive malignancy, with the second highest mortality rate among all types of cancer. It has been reported that microtubule interacting and trafficking domain containing 1 (MITD1) serves a pivotal role in the initiation and progression of diverse types of tumors. Nevertheless, the underlying mechanism of MITD1 in CC has not been previously investigated.

Senile osteoporosis (SOP) is a prevalent manifestation of age-related bone disorders, resulting from the dysregulation between osteoblast (OB)-mediated bone formation and osteoclast (OC)-mediated bone resorption, coupled with the escalating burden of cellular senescence. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbs, renowned for their remarkable attributes encompassing excellent tolerability, low toxicity, heightened efficacy, and minimal adverse reactions, have gained considerable traction in OP treatment. Emerging evidence substantiates the therapeutic benefits of various TCM formulations and their active constituents, including Zuogui wan, , and Resveratrol, in targeting cellular senescence to address SOP.

Plasma thrombin-activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor and the 1040C/T polymorphism are risk factors for diabetic kidney disease in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes.

PeerJ

December 2023

Laboratory Medicine Center, Department of Clinical Laboratory, Zhejiang Provincial People's Hospital (Affiliated People's Hospital), Hangzhou Medical College, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China.

Background: Inflammatory and hemostatic disorders in diabetic microangiopathy (DMA) can be linked to thrombin-activatable fibrinolysis inhibitor (TAFI) and its own gene polymorphisms. Thus, the study aimed to investigate the associations of plasma TAFI and gene polymorphisms with DMA in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D).

Methods: Plasma TAFI of 223 patients with T2D was measured, and the genotypes and alleles of the 1040C/T, 438G/A, and 505G/A polymorphisms of the gene were analyzed.

December 2023

Department of Pathology and Pathophysiology, and Cancer Institute of the Second Affiliated Hospital, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China; Key Laboratory of Disease Proteomics of Zhejiang Province, Key Laboratory of Cancer Prevention and Intervention of China National Ministry of Education, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. Electronic address:

Ribonucleotide reductase (RR) is a rate-limiting enzyme that facilitates DNA replication and repair by reducing nucleotide diphosphates (NDPs) to deoxyribonucleotide diphosphates (dNDPs) and is thereby crucial for cell proliferation and cancer development. The E2F family of transcription factors includes key regulators of gene expression involved in cell cycle control. In this study, E2F8 expression was significantly increased in most cancer tissues of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) patients and was correlated with the expression of RRM2 through database and clinical samples analysis.
