  • This study investigates the impact of slow low-efficiency dialysis (SLED) on critically ill patients with dysnatremia (sodium levels outside the normal range), focusing on its safety and effectiveness compared to normonatremic patients.
  • Out of 100 dysnatremic patients studied, a significant mortality rate was observed, particularly in cases of severe hypernatremia and hyponatremia, with SLED-induced sodium change being linked to mortality in some groups.
  • The findings suggest that SLED can be safely used for critically ill adults with dysnatremia, showing a mortality rate similar to that of normonatremic patients, making it a viable renal replacement

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the feasibility of measuring the extent of resection (EOR) and residual tumor volume (RTV) in glioma patients using MRI in resource-limited healthcare settings, finding it feasible in only 31% of cases.
  • - It shows that while volumetric analysis, which is more precise than surgeons’ estimates, does not correlate significantly with patient survival, factors like tumor grade and postoperative functional status are more impactful for survival outcomes.
  • - The research highlights logistical challenges in implementing routine volumetric assessments in developing countries, suggesting a need for better resource allocation in neurosurgical practices.

Aneurysms of the distal anterior cerebral artery (DACA) are rare but surgically challenging. Despite a known therapeutic implication of the aneurysm location on the DACA territory, the literature is unclear about its clinical and prognostic significance. Our surgical experience over the last 5 years was reviewed to compare the clinical, operative, and outcome characteristics between aneurysms located below the mid portion of the genu of the corpus callosum (called proximal aneurysms) to those distal to this point (called distal aneurysms).

In tuberculous meningitis (TBM), the meningeal symptoms and their resolution after treatment may be dependent on clinical-radiological severity, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and proinflammatory cytokines, and these findings may be associated with outcome. There is a paucity of studies on the resolution of meningitis symptoms in TBM. We report on associations of clinical, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), laboratory, and proinflammatory cytokines [tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interleukin 6 (IL-6)] findings with the resolution of meningitis symptoms (RMS), and the impact of RMS duration on the outcome in TBM.
