Objectives: To investigate the safety and efficacy of ANG-3777, a hepatocyte growth factor mimetic, in mitigating the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients undergoing cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass.
Methods: In this double-blind placebo-controlled study (Guard Against Renal Damage [GUARD]), patients were randomized to receive intravenous ANG-3777 2 mg/kg or placebo once daily for 4 days. The primary end point was severity of AKI, measured by mean area under the concentration-time curve on percent increase in serum creatinine from days 2 to 6.

XK disease is a very rare, multi-system disease, which can present with a wide spectrum of symptoms. This disorder can also be identified pre-symptomatically with the incidental detection of serological abnormalities when typing erythrocytes in peripheral blood, or on other routine laboratory testing. Increasing awareness of this disorder and improved access to genetic testing are resulting in increasing identification of affected patients and families.

Background: Severe aortic stenosis (AS) is the most common valvular disease in the USA. Patients undergoing urgent or emergent transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) have worse clinical outcomes than those undergoing non-urgent procedures. No studies have examined the impact of procedural TAVR timing on outcomes in AS complicated by acute heart failure (AHF).

Despite the advent of newer stents, in-stent restenosis has been a persistent and formidable challenge. Trials have demonstrated the superiority of drug-coated balloons over plain old balloon angioplasty. A recent AGENT IDE PRESTO (Prevention of REStenosis with Tranilast and its Outcomes) trial highlighted the need for a more comprehensive understanding; therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis to elucidate their respective clinical outcomes.

Background: Persons with COVID-19 infection have an increased risk of pregnancy-related complications. However, data on acute cardiovascular (CV) complications during delivery admissions remain limited.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine whether pregnant individuals with COVID-19 have an increased risk of acute peripartum CV complications during their delivery admission.

Introduction: In-stent restenosis (ISR) is seen in up to 20% of cases and is the primary cause of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) failure. With the use of re-stenting with a drug-eluting stent (DES), plain old balloon angioplasty (BA) use is decreasing. We aim to compare the efficacy and safety profile of DES over BA in the management of ISR.

Introduction: The Trifecta bioprosthetic valve has been commonly used for surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR). Multiple studies have been done to define the rate of structural valve degeneration (SVD) and failure (SVF), but the outcomes are still debatable. Therefore, we aim to conduct this single-center study to estimate the rate and predictors of SVD/SVF.

Renal angiomyolipoma (AML) is a rare benign tumor of the kidney that can occur as a sporadic lesion or a part of tuberous sclerosis. A 77-year-old female patient with a history of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and an unclear history of left nephrectomy in 1999 presented with progressive shortness of breath and palpitations. Her vital signs showed elevated blood pressure, and the examination was benign and non-focal.

Background: The role of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD) who subsequently undergo transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) remains uncertain. Therefore, we conducted this study to assess the association of PCI before TAVR with mortality and cardiovascular outcomes.
Methods: We used the TriNetX database (Jan 2012 - Aug 2022) and grouped patients into PCI (3 months or less) before TAVR and no PCI.

Background And Aims: Persons with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have an increased risk of obstetric-associated complications, as well as long-term cardiovascular (CV) risk. Hence, the aim was to evaluate the association of RA with acute CV complications during delivery admissions.
Methods: Data from the National Inpatient Sample (2004-2019) were queried utilizing ICD-9 or ICD-10 codes to identify delivery hospitalizations and a diagnosis of RA.

Background: High-grade or complete atrioventricular block (AVB) requiring permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation is a known complication of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). Wenckebach AVB induced by rapid atrial pacing (RAP) after TAVR was previously demonstrated in an observational analysis to be an independent predictor for PPM. We sought to investigate the utility of both pre- and post-TAVR RAP in predicting PPM implantation.

There is limited data on clinical outcomes of delayed cardioversion (DCV) compared with early cardioversion (ECV) in paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) patients. We utilized data from National Inpatient Sample (2015-2020) and propensity-score matched analysis to determine adjusted odds ratio (aOR) of major clinical outcomes, including 17,879 AF cases: 9725 and 8154 underwent ECV and DCV, respectively. Compared with ECV, DCV was associated with higher odds of acute heart failure (AHF; aOR 1.

A 65-year-old female with a significant history of two previous mitral valve replacement surgeries for mitral regurgitation was found to have severe mitral regurgitation again. She was determined to have a flail anterior mitral valve leaflet and underwent redo open sternotomy mitral valve replacement. This report serves to provide an example of an uncommon case of valve failure in an effort to alert clinicians to this potential complication.

Introduction And Objectives: The outcomes of left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) with the Watchman device in octogenarians are unknown as this population was underrepresented in major clinical trials. This study aims at examining the causes and outcomes of readmission after LAAO.
Design: A retrospective cohort study based on the National Readmission Database in the United States.

Data on the use of intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) guidance in mitral transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (mTEER) procedure is limited to case reports and small case series. Our study aims to assess the feasibility, safety, utilization patterns, and clinical outcomes of mTEER procedure with ICE guidance using a nationally representative real-world cohort of patients. This study used the National Inpatient Sample database from quarter 4 of 2015 to 2020.

Background: Transcatheter aortic valve intervention (TAVI) can lead to the embolization of debris. Capturing the debris by cerebral embolic protection (CEP) devices may reduce the risk of stroke. New evidence has allowed us to examine the effects of CEP in patients undergoing TAVI.
