Purpose: Trauma-associated coagulopathy has been considered to develop as a result of increased fibrinolysis due to massive bleeding, tissue damage and hypoperfusion. However, it has not been investigated whether hematoma may cause trauma-associated coagulopathy. Using experimental animal model, we analyzed the effects of hematoma formation on coagulation and fibrinolysis parameters.

Background: PCI for aorto-ostial CTO remains challenging. The techniques for guidewire in aorto-ostial CTO may differ from those used in non-aorto-ostial CTOs, influenced by clinical and angiographic characteristics.
Objectives: This study aimed to assess the technical aspects and outcomes of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with aorto-ostial chronic total occlusion (CTO).

Background: Repeat endoscopic submucosal dissection for metachronous recurrence of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma close to previous endoscopic submucosal dissection scars is challenging. Therefore, this study evaluated the efficacy and safety of repeat endoscopic submucosal dissection for recurrent esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.
Methods: The study included 1680 patients.

This study aimed to investigate the rate of sedentary behaviour and differences in physical outcomes and activities of daily living (ADL) based on sedentary behaviour time of hospitalized older cardiovascular disease patients undergoing phase I cardiac rehabilitation. Older cardiovascular disease patients were enrolled from October 2020 to September 2023 and were divided into the high sedentary behaviour group (≥ 480 min/day) and low sedentary behaviour group (< 480 min/day). Patients' clinical characteristics, usual gait speed, and Five Times Sit to Stand Test time were compared as indices of physical outcomes.

Background: Despite the effectiveness of the retrograde approach for chronic total occlusion (CTO) lesions, there are no standardized tools to predict the success of retrograde percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
Objectives: The aim of this study was to develop a prediction tool to identify CTO lesions that will achieve successful retrograde PCI.
Methods: This study evaluated data from 2,374 patients who underwent primary retrograde CTO-PCI and were enrolled in the Japanese CTO-PCI Expert Registry between January 2016 and December 2022 (NCT01889459).

A 69-year-old Japanese male presented with acute dystextia and dystypia, defined as texting and typing impairments, respectively. His text input speed decreased due to a phonologically incorrect kana flick input on his smartphone. Additionally, dystypia occurred due to phonemic paragraphia of Romaji.

A 79-year-old man presented with a history of solitary plasmacytoma in the bone 10 years ago. Chemoradiotherapy was effective, and remission was maintained with intermittent treatment at relapse of the bone lesions. One year after the last treatment, a follow-up computed tomography (CT) scan revealed multiple liver masses, and a liver biopsy revealed plasmacytoma.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitor-related pancreatic injury (ICI-PI) is a rare occurrence, which has not been reported in detail. We conducted a retrospective multicenter study to determine the clinical characteristics, risk factors, and treatment of ICI-PI.
Methods: We reviewed the medical records of patients who received ICIs for malignant tumors between April 2014 and April 2019 at 16 participating hospitals.

There is a liver damage in a serious side effect of regorafenib. Case 1 was a 54-year-old woman, and she had an operation of rectal cancer and metastasized to multiple organs afterwards and started regorafenib as third-line. Erythema exudativum multiform developed on the 8th day after a start and regorafenib was canceled once and reduced on the 21st day when a skin symptom was relieved and restarted.

Background And Aims: Perforation during esophageal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) typically results from electrical damage. However, there are cases in which perforation occurs because of segmental absence of intestinal musculature (SAIM) without iatrogenic muscular injury. We investigated the occurrence rate and clinical course of SAIM during esophageal ESD.

Patients with heart disease have a low anaerobic threshold (AT), and the determinants of AT may differ, depending on the severity of renal dysfunction. This study aimed to verify the determinants of AT for each stage of renal function in patients with heart disease. We consecutively enrolled 250 patients with heart disease who underwent cardiopulmonary exercise testing in our institution.

Background And Aim: The purpose of this study was to analyze factors associated with the overall survival (OS) of atezolizumab/bevacizumab combination therapy for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (aHCC). We also assessed the OS of patients with ineffective therapy and those who discontinued treatment owing to adverse events (AEs).
Methods: This retrospective multicenter study involved 139 patients with aHCC who received atezolizumab/bevacizumab combination therapy between November 2020 and September 2022.

Increased sedentary behaviour (SB) is reportedly associated with mortality and morbidity in cardiovascular disease. However, its relation with physical function is not well understood in phase I cardiac rehabilitation (CR). This study aimed to investigate the rate of SB and the relation between SB and physical function among patients participating in phase I CR.

Background: Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) variables represent central and peripheral factors and combined factors in the pathology of patients with cardiac disease. The difference in end-tidal oxygen partial pressure from resting to anaerobic threshold (ΔPETO ) may represent predominantly peripheral factors. This study aimed to verify the prognostic significance of ΔPETO for major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) in cardiac patients, including comparison with the minute ventilation-carbon dioxide production relationship (VE/VCO slope), and peak oxygen uptake (VO ).
