Electronic address:

Interleukin-4 (IL-4), which is traditionally associated with inflammation, has emerged as a key player in tissue regeneration. Produced primarily by T-helper 2 (Th2) and other immune cells, IL-4 activates endogenous lymphocytes and promotes M2 macrophage polarization, both of which are crucial for tissue repair. Moreover, IL-4 stimulates the proliferation and differentiation of various cell types, contributing to efficient tissue regeneration, and shows promise for promoting tissue regeneration after injury.

Endothelial dysfunction (ED) serves as the pathological basis for various cardiovascular diseases. Guanosine triphosphate cyclopyrrolone 1 (GCH1) emerges as a pivotal protein in sustaining nitric oxide (NO) production within endothelial cells, yet it undergoes degradation under oxidative stress, contributing to endothelial cell dysfunction. Citronellal (CT), a monoterpenoid, has been shown to ameliorate endothelial dysfunction induced by in atherosclerosis rats.

Role of HIF in fish inflammation.

Fish Shellfish Immunol

December 2023

Engineering Lab of Henan Province for Aquatic Animal Disease Control, College of Fisheries, Henan Normal University, Henan Province, PR China. Electronic address:

The hypoxia-inducing factor (HIF) is a central transcription factor in cellular oxygen sensing and regulation. It is common that the inflammation always appears in many diseases, like infectious diseases in fishes, and the inflammation is often accompanied by hypoxia, as a hallmark of inflammation. Besides coordinating cellular responses to low oxygen, HIF-mediated hypoxia signaling pathway is also crucial for immune responses such as the regulations of innate immune cell phenotype and function, as well as metabolic reprogramming under the inflammation.

Article Synopsis
  • Transposable elements (TEs) and satellite DNAs contribute to the evolution of sex chromosomes in non-recombining genome regions, particularly in the dioecious plant under study, which has XX/XYY sex chromosomes.
  • The research involved next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics, revealing that the female and male genomes contain 68.30% and 66.78% repetitive sequences, respectively, with a notable presence of long terminal repeat (LTR) retrotransposons.
  • The study identified three novel satellite DNAs with unique distributions on the X, Y, and Y chromosomes, suggesting that the XYY chromosomes may have originated from a centric fission event, thus enhancing the understanding of repetitive sequences in the plant's genome

Fish Shellfish Immunol

October 2023

Engineering Lab of Henan Province for Aquatic Animal Disease Control, College of Fisheries, Henan Normal University, Henan Province, PR China. Electronic address:

Prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 2 (PTGS2), a crucial enzyme in prostaglandin synthesis, catalyzes the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandins and plays a significant role in the inflammatory response. This investigation aimed to determine the regulatory role of PTGS2a in the innate immune response to bacterial infection in fish. To achieve this objective, the CcPTGS2a gene was identified and characterized in common carp (Cyprinus carpio), and its function in immune defense was investigated.

Article Synopsis
  • Stroke refers to a group of conditions that disrupt blood flow to the brain, leading to quick neurological deficits, with ischemic stroke being the most common type.
  • Treatments for ischemic stroke, such as t-PA thrombolytic therapy and surgical thrombectomy, can sometimes worsen brain damage through ischemia-reperfusion injury.
  • Minocycline, an antibiotic with neuroprotective properties, shows potential in reducing damage from such injuries by addressing oxidative stress, inflammation, excitotoxicity, and other factors, suggesting its clinical relevance for stroke treatment.
