Introduction: First-generation somatostatin receptor ligands (fg-SRLs) are the cornerstone of acromegaly treatment. Additional benefits were shown using high dose (HD) or high frequency (HF), relatively short-term regimens. Although several predictors of response to standard dose (SD)-fg-SRLs were reported, outcome biomarkers for HF administration are not yet available.

Modern approach to bone comorbidity in prolactinoma.

Prolactinomas account for more than half of pituitary adenomas, and besides their clinical impact on fertility and gonadal function, they lead to detrimental effects on bone. Patients with prolactinoma are prone to deterioration of bone structure caused not only by prolactin (PRL) induced hypogonadism but also by its direct actions on bone cells and calcium metabolism. However, clinical studies have shown inconsistent evidence regarding whether PRL could have a deleterious effect independently from gonadal insufficiency on skeletal integrity.

Multifocal vitelliform lesions associated with mitochondrial retinopathy.

Purpose: To report a case of multifocal vitelliform lesions in a patient affected by metabolic encephalomyopathy, lactic acidosis and stroke-like episodes (MELAS) with the m.3243A>G variant.

Observations: A 37-year-old woman affected by MELAS was referred to our center for progressive vision deterioration.

Vitamin D and hip protectors in osteosarcopenia: a combined hip fracture preventing approach.

Osteosarcopenia is an emerging clinical condition highly prevalent in the older people. Affected subjects due to their intrinsic skeletal fragility and propensity to falls are at elevated risk of hip fractures which can increase morbidity and mortality. Strategies for attenuating the impact of predisposing factors on hip fractures are not yet well defined and should derive from multidisciplinary care and collaborations.

Transfer Accuracy of 3D-Printed Customized Devices in Digital Indirect Bonding: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Aim: To evaluate in vitro and in vivo the accuracy of 3D-printed customized transfer devices during indirect bonding technique (IBT).

Methods: A search for articles published in the English language until April 2022 was carried out using PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases and by applying a specific search strategy for each database to identify all potentially relevant in vivo or in vitro studies. After the removal of duplicate articles and data extraction according to the participants-intervention-comparison-outcome-study design schema scheme, the methodological quality of the included studies was assessed using the Swedish Council on Technology Assessment in Health Care Criteria for Grading Assessed Studies.

Long COVID and pituitary dysfunctions: a bidirectional relationship?

Long COVID is a novel emerging syndrome known to affect multiple health areas in patients previously infected by SARS-CoV-2 markedly impairing their quality of life. The pathophysiology of Long COVID is still largely poorly understood and multiple mechanisms were proposed to underlie its occurrence, including alterations in the hormonal hypothalamic-pituitary axes. Aim of this review is to present and discuss the potential negative implications of these hormonal dysfunctions in promoting and influencing the Long COVID syndrome.

Textbook Outcome in Colorectal Surgery for Cancer: An Italian Version.

: The textbook outcome (TO) is a composite tool introduced to uniform surgical units and regulate surgical quality and outcomes. A patient is considered TO only if all predetermined items are met. In colorectal surgery, TO represents a new tool that can achieve important results given the prevalence of colorectal cancers.

Combination of High-Dose Daptomycin and Ceftriaxone for Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device Infections: A 10-Year Experience.

Purpose: Cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) infections are increasingly common. Gram-positive bacteria such as coagulase negative staphylococci and Staphylococcus aureus are the most commonly involved pathogens. The aim of this study was to describe the characteristics and outcome of patients with CIED infections who underwent device removal and were empirically treated with high dose (8-12 mg/kg daily) daptomycin (DAP) in combination with ceftriaxone (CRO).

The evidence that pituitary hormones may bypass peripheral endocrine glands to exert remarkable effects on the skeleton is gaining ground. Both hormonal excess and deficit may determine impairment in bone structure, and they commonly result in bone loss in patients affected by pituitary and neuroendocrine disorders. Vertebral fractures are the most common skeletal alterations and may occur independently of bone mass.

Purpose: Low vitamin D levels were reported to negatively influence the outcomes of acute COVID-19, as well as other biochemical markers were linked to COVID-19, including microRNAs (miRNAs). This study aimed to prospectively evaluate miRNAs and vitamin D relationship in predicting COVID-19 outcomes.

Methods: COVID-19 patients were part of a previously reported cohort and enrolled in a matched-ratio based on the presence/or not of severe disease at hospital admission.

Purpose: A series of consensus guidelines on medical treatment of acromegaly have been produced in the last two decades. However, little information is available on their application in clinical practice. Furthermore, international standards of acromegaly care have not been published.

TACO: A Turkish database for abstract concepts.

The organization of abstract concepts reflects different dimensions, grounded in the brain regions coding for the corresponding experience. Normative measures of linguistic stimuli offer noteworthy insights into the organization of conceptual knowledge, but studies differ in the dimensions and classes of concepts considered. Additionally, most of the available information has been collected in English, without considering possible linguistic and cultural differences.

European clinical practice guidelines for the definition, diagnosis, and treatment of oligometastatic esophagogastric cancer (OMEC-4).

Introduction: The OligoMetastatic Esophagogastric Cancer (OMEC) project aims to provide clinical practice guidelines for the definition, diagnosis, and treatment of esophagogastric oligometastatic disease (OMD).

Methods: Guidelines were developed according to AGREE II and GRADE principles. Guidelines were based on a systematic review (OMEC-1), clinical case discussions (OMEC-2), and a Delphi consensus study (OMEC-3) by 49 European expert centers for esophagogastric cancer.

Consensus Statement on Vitamin D Status Assessment and Supplementation: Whys, Whens, and Hows.

The 6th International Conference, "Controversies in Vitamin D," was convened to discuss controversial topics, such as vitamin D metabolism, assessment, actions, and supplementation. Novel insights into vitamin D mechanisms of action suggest links with conditions that do not depend only on reduced solar exposure or diet intake and that can be detected with distinctive noncanonical vitamin D metabolites. Optimal 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) levels remain debated.

Background: Endocrine regulation of bone metabolisms is the focus of the "Skeletal Endocrinology" series of meetings.

Aims: To report on the outcome of the discussion on the role of vitamin D/PTH axis in endocrine osteopathies held during the 10 Skeletal Endocrinology Meeting which took place in Stresa (Italy) in March 2023.

Outcomes: Vitamin D/PTH axis has relevant influence on several outcomes in the general population and in patients affected by endocrinopathies such as hypoparathyroidism and secreting pituitary adenomas.

Venous thromboembolism in Cushing syndrome: results from an EuRRECa and Endo-ERN survey.

Background: Patients with Cushing syndrome (CS) are at increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE).

Objective: The aim was to evaluate the current management of new cases of CS with a focus on VTE and thromboprophylaxis.

Design And Methods: A survey was conducted within those that report in the electronic reporting tool (e-REC) of the European Registries for Rare Endocrine Conditions (EuRRECa) and the involved main thematic groups (MTG's) of the European Reference Networks for Rare Endocrine Disorders (Endo-ERN) on new patients with CS from January 2021 to July 2022.

A Review on the Feasibility and Efficacy of Home-Based Cognitive Remediation in People with Multiple Sclerosis.

Cognitive impairment affects 34-65% of People with Multiple Sclerosis (PwMS), significantly impacting their quality of life. Clinicians routinely address cognitive deficits with in-clinic neuro-behavioural interventions, but accessibility issues exist. Given these challenges, coupled with the lifelong need for continuous assistance in PwMS, researchers have underscored the advantageous role of telerehabilitation in addressing these requirements.
