Background: Opportune diagnosis, prediction, and interceptive treatment of permanent maxillary canine (PMC) impaction is fundamental for pediatric dentists and orthodontists. In children and young adolescents, diagnostic information obtained from a panoramic radiograph is valuable for the overview and prediction of a potential PMC ectopic eruption into the oral cavity. The aim of the present study was to calculate and compare the prevalence of impaction of PMC in a Mexican pediatric sample (7 to 13 years old), through the use of the Ericson & Kurol (EK/L) and the Power & Short (PS) measurement analyses performed on panoramic radiographs.

This study aimed to identify the aerobic and anaerobic causal microorganisms of odontogenic infections and their antibiotic sensitivity. Purulent exudates were taken from patients with odontogenic infections by transdermal puncture, and aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms were identified using biochemical tests. Susceptibility to antibiotics was tested using the Kirby-Bauer method; the inhibition halos were measured according to NCCLS, and based on the results, the microorganisms were classified as susceptible, intermediate or resistant to each antibiotic.

Background: Eisenmenger syndrome (ES) is a heart cyanotic condition characterised by elevated pulmonary vascular resistance and an intra-cardiac right-to-left shunting of blood through a systemic-to-pulmonary circulation connection. Affected children usually exhibit severe hypoxia, clubbing of fingers/toes, haemoptysis, anaemia, and organ damage.
Case Report: During autumn 2015, the patient and her parents arrived at the paediatric dentistry clinic.

Aim: Oral mucositis (OM) is a painful and inflammatory ulcerative lesion occurring as an adverse effect during chemotherapy in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). This condition may cause significant systemic anomalies such as malnutrition, opportunistic infections, and delay in the chemotherapy course. This report aims to describe a case series of 11 ALL patients treated with methotrexate as chemotherapy agent.

Introduction: Factors that contribute to swelling and trismus are complex, and they are originated by surgical trauma. The aim of the present study was to determine whether clinical and radiographic factors could predict the level of swelling and trismus after lower third molar surgery, through longitudinal approach.
Methodology: A prospective longitudinal trial was carried out.

Aim: To perform a scoping review of the existing literature in order to gather the most relevant information in the paediatric dentistry field related to the oral management of children affected by Henoch-Schönlein Purpura and associated Glomerulonephritis (HSPG).
Materials And Methods: Using scoping review methodology for the screening and selection of valid articles, the steps of this review were the following: first, to pose a research question; second, to identify relevant studies; third, to select and retrieve the studies; fourth, to chart the critical data, and finally, to collate, summarise, and report the results from the included articles. Relevant articles published over a 25-year period, up to July 31, 2017, were identified and retrieved from four Internet databases: PubMed; EMBASE/Ovid; Ebsco/Dentistry & Oral Science Source, and the Cochrane Collaboration Library.

Unlabelled: AIM To evaluate the effectiveness of a Video Eyeglasses/Earphones System (VEES) as distracting device in reducing anxiety in children during dental procedures carried out under local anaesthesia.
Materials And Methods: In this crossover clinical trial, 36 Frankl scale II and III children aged 5-8 years received different dental procedures in two sessions, with and without the VEES system. In the control visit, they were not exposed to this distraction stimulus, but traditional non-aversive behaviour management was applied.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical and radiographic outcomes of a bioactive tricalcium silicate [Ca3SiO5]-based dentin substitute and a light-activated calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2]-based liner as indirect pulp treatment (IPT) interventions for vital primary molars with carious lesions approaching the pulp.
Methods: Eighty children, aged four to eight years old, with 160 bilateral primary teeth without signs or symptoms of irreversibly inflamed or degenerative pulp tissue were treated in a split-mouth design trial comparing IPT using Ca3SiO5 or Ca(OH)2. The teeth were treated and restored with a preformed crown in a single session and assessed clinically and radiographically for one, three, six, and 12 months.

Eugenol (mixed with zinc oxide powder) is widely used as direct capping material during pulp therapy in primary teeth. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of eugenol on diverse genes involved in inflammatory and cell apoptosis processes. The regulatory effect of eugenol on the expression of inflammation and apoptotic genes was evaluated in dental pulp fibroblasts from extracted third molars, cultured under concentration of eugenol of 13 M.

Unlabelled: Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH), which is a rare granulomatous pediatric disease of unknown etiology, is characterized by the idiopathic proliferation and accumulation of abnormal and clonal Langerhans cells or their marrow precursors, resulting in localized, solitary or multiple destructive lesions. These lesions are most commonly eosinophilic granuloma, which are found in craniofacial bone structures such as the skull and mandible, skin and other organs. In children, the disease has a variable initial presentation, and the clinical course, prognosis and survival are unpredictable.

Background: The aim of this study was to compare the days of hospitalization length between patients treated with Moxifloxacin with that of patients treated with a Clindamycin/Ceftriaxone combination and additionally, to isolate and identify the oral pathogens involved in orofacial odontogenic infections.
Material And Methods: A pilot-controlled-clinical-trial was carried out on hospitalized patients with cervicofacial odontogenic abscesses or cellulitis, who were randomly asigned to two study groups: 1) patients who received Moxifloxacin, and 2) patients receiving Clindamycin/Ceftriaxone combination. Infiltrate samples were collected through transdermic or transmucosal punction and later cultured on a media specific for aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms.
