Is CT Radiomics Superior to Morphological Evaluation for pN0 Characterization? A Pilot Study in Colon Cancer.

Cancers (Basel)

February 2024

Radiology Unit, Department of Medical Surgical Sciences and Translational Medicine, Sapienza University of Rome, Sant'Andrea University Hospital, Via di Grottarossa 1035-1039, 00189 Rome, Italy.

The aim of this study was to compare CT radiomics and morphological features when assessing benign lymph nodes (LNs) in colon cancer (CC). This retrospective study included 100 CC patients (test cohort) who underwent a preoperative CT examination and were diagnosed as pN0 after surgery. Regional LNs were scored with a morphological Likert scale (NODE-SCORE) and divided into two groups: low likelihood (LLM: 0-2 points) and high likelihood (HLM: 3-7 points) of malignancy.

Use of quantitative indocyanine green near-infrared fluorescence imaging in bariatric surgery: early results.

Minim Invasive Ther Allied Technol

Center for Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery and Multidisciplinary Obesity Unit, Nuova Clinica Annunziatella, Rome, Italy.

Introduction: Indocyanine green fluorescence angiography (ICG-FA) is commonly used in general surgery, but its use in bariatric surgery is still marginal. Moreover, post-operative leaks remain a dramatic complication after this surgery and the leak tests available have poor performance preventing them. The aim of the present paper is to assess the use and utility of a new innovative technology based on quantitative measures of fluorescence signal intensity.

Background: Although local excision (LE) after neoadjuvant treatment (NT) has achieved encouraging oncological outcomes in selected patients, radical surgery still remains the rule when unfavorable pathology occurs. However, there is a risk of undertreating patients not eligible for radical surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of patients with pathological incomplete response (ypT2) in a multicentre cohort of patients undergoing LE after NT and to compare them with ypT0-is-1 rectal cancers.

Rectovaginal fistulas (RVFs) represent the majority of all symptomatic leakages after anterior and low anterior resection in women. Conservative management is useful in paucisymptomatic patients with small fistulas but is usually unsuccessful in all other cases. The surgical strategies are various and heavily dependent on the type and extent of anatomic involvement.

Background/objectives: Lower extremities peripheral arterial disease (LE-PAD) across the wide range of conditions for Cardiac Rehabilitation (CR) is poorly understood. The "ATHerosclerosis of the lower extremIties as a liNKed comorbidity in Patients Admitted for carDiac rehabilitation" (THINKPAD) registry explored LE-PAD in CR patients in terms of prevalence and interventions delivered.

Methods: Multicenter, consecutive case series of 1506 patients discharged from 16 CR Units in Italy from May 1 to June 30, 2012.
