, ,  and gene fusions and exon 14 skipping alterations represent novel predictive biomarkers for advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Therefore, testing patients for these genetic variants is crucial for choosing the best selective treatment. Over the last couple of decades, next-generation sequencing (NGS) platforms have emerged as an extremely useful tool for detecting these variants.

Background: Patients with programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) ≥50% metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (mNSCLC) and ECOG performance status (PS) of 2 treated with first-line immunotherapy have heterogeneous clinical assessment and outcomes.

Methods: To explore the role of immune-inflammatory surrogates by the validated lung immuno-oncology prognostic score (LIPS) score, including the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and the pretreatment use of steroids, alongside other prognostic variables. A retrospective analysis of 128 patients with PS2 and PD-L1 ≥50% mNSCLC treated between April 2018 and September 2019 with first-line pembrolizumab in a real-world setting was performed.

The association between low skeletal muscle mass and delirium: results from the nationwide multi-centre Italian Delirium Day 2017.

Aging Clin Exp Res

February 2022

School of Medicine and Surgery, Università Degli Studi Milano-Bicocca and Acute Geriatric Unit, San Gerardo Hospital Monza, Milan, Italy.

Introduction: Delirium and sarcopenia are common, although underdiagnosed, geriatric syndromes. Several pathological mechanisms can link delirium and low skeletal muscle mass, but few studies have investigated their association. We aimed to investigate (1) the association between delirium and low skeletal muscle mass and (2) the possible role of calf circumference mass in finding cases with delirium.

Mitochondrial structural alterations in ovarian cancer patient-derived xenografts resistant to cisplatin.

Am J Cancer Res

May 2021

Laboratory of Molecular Pharmacology, Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche Mario Negri-IRCCS Via Mario Negri 2, Milan 20156, Italy.

Mitochondria have attracted attention in cancer research as organelles associated with tumor development and response to therapy. We recently reported acquisition of resistance to cisplatin (DDP) associated with a metabolic rewiring in ovarian cancer patient-derived xenografts (PDXs) models. DDP-resistant PDXs models were obtained mimicking the clinical setting, treating mice bearing sensitive-DDP tumors with multiple cycles of DDP until the development of resistance.
