A Multisite Randomized Feasibility Trial of a Remotely Delivered Pelvic Yoga Program for Women with Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome.

Yoga has been recommended as a complementary management strategy for women with chronic pelvic pain (CPP), but many women lack access to specialized yoga instruction for this indication, and few data are available to evaluate changes in CPP with yoga. This feasibility trial evaluated the acceptability and tolerability of a remotely delivered yoga program for CPP in women and examined data quality and interpretability for measures of pelvic pain intensity and impact with yoga instruction. Ambulatory women with CPP were recruited from northern California in 2020-2022 and randomly assigned to a 2-month program involving twice weekly group classes delivered by videoconference supplemented by individual practice of pelvic yoga techniques versus a control program involving equivalent-time instruction and practice of nonspecific skeletal muscle stretching-strengthening exercises.

The Valence of Abstraction: A Paradox Revisited.

While abstraction is one of the best studied topics in psychology, there is little consensus on its relationship to valence and affect. Some studies have found that abstraction is associated with greater positivity, while other studies have led to the opposite conclusion. In this paper we suggest that a substantial part of this inconsistency can be attributed to the polysemy of the term abstraction.

Muscle tone represents a foundational property of the motor system with the potential to impact musculoskeletal pain and motor performance. Muscle tone is involuntary, dynamically adaptive, interconnected across the body, sensitive to postural demands, and distinct from voluntary control. Research has historically focused on pathological tone, peripheral regulation, and contributions from passive tissues, without consideration of the neural regulation of active tone and its consequences, particularly for neurologically healthy individuals.

A Structurally Diverse Compound Screening Library to Identify Substrates for Diamine, Polyamine, and Related Acetyltransferases.

Spermidine/spermine acetyltransferases (SSATs) and other types of polyamine acetyltransferases (PAATs) acetylate diamines and/or polyamines. These enzymes are evolutionarily related and belong to the Gcn5-related acetyltransferase (GNAT) superfamily, yet we lack a fundamental understanding of their substrate specificity and/or promiscuity toward different compounds. Many of these enzymes are known or are predicted to acetylate polyamines, but in the cell there are other types of compounds that contain moieties derived from polyamines that may be the native substrates for these enzymes.

Little is known about the behaviors of African equatorial rain forest mosquito species and their potential role as sylvatic and bridge-vectors of various pathogens of animal and public health. In 2016 and 2017, the diversity and sources of water supporting immature development of mosquitoes in Talangaye Rainforest (South West Cameroon) before, during and after deforestation were investigated. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of teachers' unions for school-based speech-language pathologists (SLPs) and their perceptions of the benefits and barriers to union membership.

Method: A 44-item survey was used to solicit information about the perceptions of and participation in teachers' unions of 320 school-based SLPs. Directed content analysis of 70 district collective bargaining agreements was also conducted to explore the presence and content of SLP contract provisions.

Individuals who experience complex post-traumatic stress disorders are susceptible to substance use disorders.

The CARES classroom observation tool: Psychometrics of an observational measure of culturally responsive practices.

There is growing interest in improving and assessing teachers' use of culturally responsive practices (CRP) in the classroom, yet relatively few research-based approaches exist to address these measurement gaps. This article presents findings on the psychometric properties of a newly developed classroom observation measure of CRP, called the CARES Observational Assessment Tool, where CARES refers to five theorized domains of CRP. We used a sample of 268 30-min video observations across urban classrooms (Grades 4-9) from the Measures of Effective Teaching Project (Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, 2014).

The family-level placement of the species Pacificana cockayniHogg, 1904 (Araneae, Miturgidae) has been ambiguous for over a century, with the monotypic genus Pacificana initially placed in Agelenidae, later transferred to Amaurobioidinae (Anyphaenidae), and presently in Miturgidae. A recent work describing the male and molecular data consisting of a single mitochondrial gene, cytochrome c oxidase subunit I, confirmed that the species is part of the marronoid clade; however, these data did not result in a conclusive family-level placement. Invalidation and Mental Health among Nonbinary Individuals.

This study examines the experience of a unique minority stressor, gender identity invalidation (henceforth referred to as invalidation), which is defined as the refusal to accept someone's gender identity as real or valid, among transgender and nonbinary (TNB) individuals. Data are drawn from a large and diverse sample of TNB adults who participated in a quantitative survey concerning transgender identity, minority stress, and mental health ( = 302). Invalidation was assessed using a novel 17-item scale that ascertains the extent to which respondents experienced invalidation across different social contexts.

Seaweeds, particularly the red seaweed , produce and sequester bromomethanes, which are known for mitigating methane emissions in ruminants when used as a feed supplement. Bromomethane synthesis requires hydrogen peroxide (H O ). Habitat loss and forest fragmentation are often linked to increased pathogen transmission, but the extent to which habitat isolation and landscape connectivity affect disease dynamics through movement of disease vectors and reservoir hosts has not been well examined. Tick-borne diseases are the most prevalent vector-borne diseases in the United States and on the West Coast, is one of the most epidemiologically important vectors. We investigated the impacts of habitat fragmentation on pathogens transmitted by and sought to disentangle the effects of wildlife communities and landscape metrics predictive of pathogen diversity, prevalence and distribution.

Decreased accuracy of forensic DNA mixture analysis for groups with lower genetic diversity.

Forensic investigation of DNA samples from multiple contributors has become commonplace. These complex analyses use statistical frameworks accounting for multiple levels of uncertainty in allelic contributions from different individuals, particularly for samples containing few molecules of DNA. These methods have been thoroughly tested along some axes of variation, but less attention has been paid to accuracy across human genetic variation.

Premise: Ceanothus (Rhamnaceae) is a large genus of shrubs that dominate California chaparral and are resilient to fires.
