Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a heterogeneous autoimmune disease characterized by severe organ damage and lacking curative treatment. While various immune cell types, especially dysfunctional B and T cells and neutrophils, have been related with disease pathogenesis, limited research has focused on the role of monocytes in SLE. Increased DNA extracellular traps, apoptosis and necrosis have been related to lupus pathogenesis.

Background: Early diagnosis and treatment of Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and Systemic sclerosis (SSc) present significant challenges for clinicians. Although various studies have observed changes in serum levels of selectins between healthy donors and patients with autoimmune diseases, including SLE and SSc, their potential as biomarkers has not been thoroughly explored. We aimed to investigate serum profiles of PSGL-1 (sPSGL-1), ADAM8 (sADAM8) and P-, E- and L-selectins (sP-, sE- and sL-selectins) in defined SLE and SSc patient cohorts to identify disease-associated molecular patterns.

Background: ADAS-3D software elaborates cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) images to obtain a quantitative evaluation of dense scar and border zone (BZ), including BZ channels, which can be useful for ventricular tachycardia ablation and risk stratification. However, most prior reports with ADAS-3D used flexible thresholds (60% ± 5% and 40% ± 5% of maximum pixel signal intensity) to define dense scar and BZ. The impact of such variations of the threshold values on the measurements obtained with ADAS-3D is unknown.

Background: Higher education was gravely affected by the pandemic which caused academic occupational disruptions and affected students. Challenges in successful engagement in occupations influence the health and well-being of the individual. Consequently, it is vital for occupational therapist (OT) educators to be informed on how to manage academic occupational disruptions to minimize its occurrence, mitigate its impact, and support students' academic occupations.

Background: Social isolation is associated with increased all-cause and premature mortality, poor chronic disease management, and mental health concerns. Limited research exists on interventions addressing social isolation among individuals under 65 despite its increasing prevalence among young and middle-aged adults.
Aim: To identify interventions from the extant literature that address social isolation and loneliness in ambulatory healthcare settings in adults aged 18-64 and to identify elements of successful studies for future intervention design.

JCO Two years of adjuvant abemaciclib combined with endocrine therapy (ET) resulted in a significant improvement in invasive disease-free survival (IDFS) and distant relapse-free survival (DRFS) that persisted beyond the 2-year treatment period in patients with hormone receptor-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative, node-positive, high-risk early breast cancer (EBC). Here, we report 5-year efficacy results from a prespecified overall survival (OS) interim analysis. In the intent-to-treat population, with a median follow-up of 54 months, the benefit of abemaciclib was sustained with hazard ratios of 0.

Background: Cardioneuroablation (CNA) is a novel treatment for reflex syncope. The effect of aging on CNA efficacy is not fully understood.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of aging on candidacy and efficacy of CNA for treating vasovagal syncope (VVS), carotid sinus syndrome (CSS), and functional bradyarrhythmia.

Objectives: The transition from medical student to intern is associated with a significant increase in workloads and responsibilities. This includes using the electronic medical record (EMR), which can lead to challenges in information gathering and patient care; however, no formal residency interventions exist in the use of an EMR for information gathering, with most EMR training occurring in the clinical setting. The present study aimed to improve information gathering on patient care and enhance the confidence of Internal Medicine interns in information gathering.

Aims: Pulmonary vein (PV) antrum isolation proved to be effective for treating persistent atrial fibrillation (PeAF). We sought to investigate the results of a personalized approach aimed at adapting the ablation index (AI) to the local left atrial wall thickness (LAWT) in a cohort of consecutive patients with PeAF.
Methods And Results: Consecutive patients referred for PeAF first ablation were prospectively enrolled.

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by the generation of anti-DNA autoantibodies due to exposure of immune cells to excessive amounts of extracellular DNA. Lack of P-selectin in mice induces the development of a lupus-like syndrome and patients with cutaneous lupus have reduced P-selectin expression in skin vessels. Using flow cytometry we analyzed in healthy donors and patients the expression of P-selectin Glycoprotein Ligand-1 (PSGL-1) in circulating neutrophils and the implication of PSGL-1/P-selectin interaction in neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) generation.

Background: Catheter ablation is recommended as first-line therapy for patients with symptomatic typical AFl. Although the conventional multi-catheter approach is the standard of care for cavotricuspid isthmus (CTI) ablation, a single-catheter approach was recently described as a feasible alternative. The present study sought to compare safety, efficacy, and efficiency of single vs.

Background: Adjuvant abemaciclib plus endocrine therapy previously showed a significant improvement in invasive disease-free survival and distant relapse-free survival in hormone receptor-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2; also known as ERBB2)-negative, node-positive, high-risk, early breast cancer. Here, we report updated results from an interim analysis to assess overall survival as well as invasive disease-free survival and distant relapse-free survival with additional follow-up.
Methods: In monarchE, an open-label, randomised, phase 3 trial, adult patients (aged ≥18 years) who had hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative, node-positive, early breast cancer at a high risk of recurrence with an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status of 0 or 1 were recruited from 603 sites including hospitals and academic and community centres in 38 countries.

Background And Purpose: Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is the main cause of mortality in systemic sclerosis (SSc), and current therapies available are of low efficacy or high toxicity. Thus, the identification of innovative less toxic and high efficacy therapeutic approaches to ILD treatment is an urgent need. The interaction of P-selectin glycoprotein ligand-1 (PSGL-1) with P-selectin initiates leukocyte extravasation and deletion of the corresponding gene (Selplg) induces a SSc-like syndrome with high incidence of ILD in aged mice.

Invasive species threaten ecosystems globally, but their impacts can be cryptic when they occur indirectly. Invader phenology can also differ from that of native species, potentially causing seasonality in invader impacts. Yet, it is unclear if invader phenology can drive seasonal patterns in indirect effects.

Background: Premature ventricular complexes (PVCs) are frequent in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM). Still, the PVCs characteristics as well as the outcomes after catheter ablation in this population remain unknown. Aim of the study was to describe principal features of PVCs ablated in a wide DM-patients cohort and report postablation clinical outcomes in the follow-up of patients with DM and left ventricular dysfunction.

His bundle pacing was developed while seeking a physiological alternative to biventricular cardiac resynchronization therapy. However, His bundle pacing may not be adequate in all patients. In this scenario, left bundle branch pacing has arisen as a new cardiac resynchronization therapy modality to correct left bundle branch block and restore ventricular synchrony.
