Purpose: Hip resurfacing arthroplasty (HRA) is recommended for younger patients seeking higher levels of activity. However, femoroacetabular cup impingement (FACI) between the femoral neck and acetabular prosthesis remains a concern. This study aimed to determine the incidence, risk factors, and prognostic consequences of FACI after HRA.

The Inferior Cerebellar Peduncle Sign: A Novel Imaging Marker for Differentiating Multiple System Atrophy Cerebellar Type from Spinocerebellar Ataxia.

Background And Purpose: The hot cross bun (HCB) sign is a hallmark feature of multiple system atrophy with predominant cerebellar ataxia (MSA-C), typically observed in advanced stages of the disease; however, it can also present in other conditions such as spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA), making the differentiation challenging. The middle cerebellar peduncle (MCP) sign may be observed in various medical conditions and in healthy individuals. We hypothesized that the inferior cerebellar peduncle (ICP), known to be affected in MSA-C, may exhibit hyperintensity on fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) imaging, potentially aiding in differentiating MSA-C from SCA.

Concurrent Versus Sequential Adjuvant Capecitabine-Based Chemoradiation in Residual Triple-Negative Breast Cancer After Neoadjuvant-Chemotherapy: A Multicenter Comparative Study.

Purpose: Given the aggressive nature and poor prognosis of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), adjuvant capecitabine has been the standard therapy for residual disease after preoperative systemic therapy (PST). Effect of high-flow nasal cannula therapy on mechanical ventilation duration in the pediatric intensive care unit.

Background: High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) therapy has gained popularity in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). However, the nationwide effect of HFNC on mechanical ventilation duration has not been studied.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed pediatric patients (28 days to 17 years old) admitted to tertiary ICUs for respiratory support from 2012 to 2019 using the Korean National Health Insurance database.

Purpose: The Vascular Study Group of New England (VSGNE) risk prediction model is a simple method for estimating risk for elective abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair. The model considers both treatment methods and the physical characteristics of the aneurysm type as well as comorbidities. This research aimed to validate its effectiveness by analyzing retrospective data on Korean patients.

Development of the Korean Quality Improvement Platform in Surgery (K-QIPS) program: a nationwide project to improve surgical quality and patient safety.

Purpose: Improvements in surgical quality and patient safety are critical components of the healthcare system. Despite excellent cancer survival rates in Korea, there is a lack of standardized postoperative complication management systems. To address this gap, the Korean Surgical Society initiated the development of the Korean Quality Improvement Platform in Surgery (K-QIPS) program.

Randomized Multicenter Study to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of Fexuprazan According to the Timing of Dosing in Patients with Erosive Esophagitis.

Background/aims: Fexuprazan, a novel potassium-competitive acid blocker, was developed for treating acidrelated disorders. Pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of fexuprazan, unlike those of proton pump inhibitors, are independent of food effect. This study aims to evaluate differences in efficacy and safety of fexuprazan in patients with erosive esophagitis (EE) according to the timing of dosing.

The Effect of Terpinen-4-ol on Human Corneal Epithelium.

Purpose: To investigate the toxicity of terpinen-4-ol (T4O) on primary cultured human corneal epithelial cells (HCECs).

Methods: HCECs were exposed to various concentrations (0%-0.1%) of T4O for 15 minutes to 72 hours.

[Experiences of Patients and Their Families Receiving Medical Services Provided by Advanced Practice Nurses at Tertiary General Hospitals].

Purpose: This study aimed to understand and describe the experiences of patients and their families who have received medical services from advanced practice nurses in tertiary general hospitals in Korea.

Methods: Data were collected through four focus group interviews with 20 patients and their families who had received medical services from advanced practice nurses for more than six months at four tertiary hospitals from November 29 to December 28, 2023. Verbatim transcripts were analyzed using qualitative content analysis.

Novel Risk Scoring Model to Predict the Implementation of Veno-Arterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation in Patients With Acute Myocarditis.

Background: This study aimed to identify risk factors associated with the implementation of veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) in patients with acute myocarditis and to develop a predictive model.

Methods And Results: This retrospective study included 841 patients from 7 hospitals in Korea with biopsy-proven or clinically suspected acute myocarditis. Logistic regression analysis was used to identify the clinical characteristics of patients who required VA-ECMO and to construct a scoring system to predict the implementation of VA-ECMO.

Screening for Lung Cancer, Overdiagnosis, and Healthcare Utilization: A Nationwide Population-Based Study.

Introduction: Guideline-discordant low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening may cause lung cancer (LC) overdiagnosis, but its extent and consequences are unclear. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of self-initiated, non-reimbursed LDCT screening in a predominantly non-smoking population and its impact on LC epidemiology and healthcare utilization.

Methods: This nationwide cohort study analyzed data from Korea's National Health Information Database and 11 academic hospital screening centers (1999-2022).

Hippocampal deep brain stimulation for drug-resistant epilepsy: Insights from bilateral temporal lobe and posterior epilepsy cases.

Purpose: This study evaluates the long-term efficacy of hippocampal deep brain stimulation (Hip-DBS) in patients with drug-resistant epilepsy (DRE), specifically focusing on bilateral temporal lobe epilepsy (BTLE) and posterior epilepsy (PE).

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 15 DRE patients (11 BTLE, 4 PE) who underwent bilateral Hip-DBS at Samsung Medical Center over an eight-year period. Medical records, seizure diaries, and neuropsychological assessments were reviewed.

Feasibility and Safety of ArtiSential for Minimally Invasive Surgery in Early-stage Gynecologic Cancer: Results from the KGOG 4002/GYANT Study.

Objectives: The objective is to evaluate the feasibility and safety of ArtiSential for performing minimally invasive surgeries for gynecological cancers.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a prospective observational study at 10 Tertiary Institutional Hospitals in Korea between November 2021 and April 2022. Eligible patients were 18 years or older and planned to undergo minimally invasive surgery for gynecologic cancer.

A Review of the Histopathology of Nail Unit Tumors Including Selection of the Optimal Surgical Sampling.

Background: A wide variety of tumors can affect the nail unit, with some commonly mistaken as inflammatory or infectious diseases. Obtaining an optimal sample for histopathologic evaluation requires understanding of nail unit anatomy as well as the histopathology of the suspected nail tumor.

Summary: This review discusses clinical and histopathologic features of a subset of benign and malignant nail tumors, including subungual melanoma, nail unit squamous cell carcinoma in situ, nail unit squamous cell carcinoma, onychomatricoma, onychopapilloma, onychocytic matricoma, and onychocytic carcinoma.

Clinical evaluation and management of endometriosis: 2024 guideline for Korean patients from the Korean Society of Endometriosis.

Endometriosis, a prevalent but debilitating condition affecting women, poses significant challenges in diagnosis and management. The current 2024 guideline, developed by the Korean Society of Endometriosis (KSE), builds upon the 2018 KSE guideline. This guideline aims to provide customized recommendations tailored to Korea's unique clinical aspects and medical environment, and addresses key areas such as diagnosis, medical and surgical management, considerations for special populations, and its complex relationship with cancer.

Efficacy of combining aspirin with hydroxychloroquine in pregnancies at high risk for pre-eclampsia: a prospective, multicentre, open-label, single-arm clinical trial, investigator-initiated study (HUGS study).

Introduction: The use of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) during pregnancies complicated by systemic lupus erythematosus or refractory antiphospholipid antibody syndrome has demonstrated a significant ability to prevent pre-eclampsia (PE). As such, the potential for the administration of HCQ to prevent PE in other high-risk pregnancies is an important clinical research agenda among maternal and fetal medicine specialists. Mechanistically, the anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects of HCQ can offer vascular protection and inhibit the placental dysfunction-associated thrombotic changes underlying the pathophysiology of PE, fetal growth restriction (FGR) and fetal death in utero (FDIU).

Global Longitudinal Strain is a Predictor of Mortality in Patients with Cardiogenic Shock.

Aims: Cardiogenic shock (CS) is a critical manifestation of severe cardiac dysfunction, necessitating precise evaluation of left ventricular function by transthoracic echocardiography. The prognostic value of global longitudinal strain (GLS) has not been examined in patients with CS. Therefore, we aimed to assess the prognostic significance of GLS in patients with CS.

This study assessed the performance of the Allplex stx1/2/2a/2d Typing (ASTXT) assay (Seegene) for diagnosis and typing Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli. Analytical sensitivity and specificity were evaluated using 18 spiked strains, and cross-reactivity was tested on 114 strains including E. coli without Shiga toxin.
