Background: Previous studies have demonstrated that those suffering from acute coronary syndrome (ACS) experience various physical and psychological symptoms. Few studies have investigated the multi-factorial, holistic, unpleasant experience of distress that includes physical, psychological, social, and spiritual factors among this patient population while still hospitalized.
Aim: To describe the level of distress among patients hospitalized with ACS and its association with demographic and clinical factors and mortality.

The short-term effectiveness of a two-dose regimen of the BioNTech/Pfizer mRNA BNT162b2 severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccine was widely demonstrated. However, long term effectiveness is still unknown. Leveraging the centralized computerized database of Maccabi Healthcare Services (MHS), we assessed the correlation between time-from-vaccine and incidence of breakthrough infection between June 1 and July 27, the date of analysis.

Objective: Islamic population constitute more than 20% of the world population and is growing rapidly. Nevertheless, data concerning informal caregiving to older Muslim patients diagnosed with cancer are scarce. Improving the well-being of caregivers is a vital step to optimal care for the patients themselves throughout the Muslim community and the world.

Objectives: Studies of depression in older Muslim Palestinians diagnosed with cancer are scarce. To gain insight into the psychological response and coping ability of this very large, globally distributed population, we collected data from older Muslim Palestinian people diagnosed with cancer concerning depression hope and perceived social support. Both hope and social support were selected because they can be manipulated through intervention and education, as shown in the geriatric literature.

Introduction: Concerns were raised over an increase in Bell's palsy, herpes simplex and herpes zoster after BNT162b2 vaccination, all are manifestations of herpesviruses reactivation. As herpesviruses commonly reactivate in the oropharynx, we have hypothesized that oropharyngeal shedding of herpesviruses will increase after vaccination.
Methods: Immune-competent Adults, excluding those using topical steroids or manifesting symptomatic herpesvirus infection, were sampled before BNT162b2 vaccination and one week after.

Introduction: Reaching the point of treatment failure in the management of pediatric acute otitis media (AOM) is decision-changing, and is often associated with switching to a broader coverage antibiotic with/without middle ear surgical drainage. Yet, still there is no consensus on the definition of what is treatment failure, which may lead to confusion for clinical decision-making purposes. We sought to review the heterogeneity of treatment failure definitions in AOM.

Background: Red blood cell distribution width (RDW) has been assessed during COVID-19 patient hospitalization, however, further research should be done to evaluate RDW from routine community blood tests, before infection, as a risk factor for COVID-19 related hospitalization and mortality.
Patients And Methods: RDW was measured as a predictor along with age, sex, chronic illnesses, and BMI in logistic regressions to predict hospitalization and mortality. Hospitalization and mortality odds ratios (ORs) were estimated with 95% confidence intervals (CI).

Deployment of the BNT162b2 mRNA Covid-19 Vaccine in Israel began in December 2020. This is a retrospective analysis of serological data, showing SARS-CoV-2 anti-S IgG kinetics in 116 Israeli health care workers receiving BNT162b2. Sero-conversion occurred in 14 days in all study participants, with IgG levels peaking approximately 30 days after initiation of the vaccination series.

The feminist women's health movement empowered women's knowledge regarding their health and battled against paternalistic and oppressive practices within healthcare systems. Gender Medicine (GM) is a new discipline that studies the effect of sex/gender on general health. The international society for gender medicine (IGM) was embraced by the FDA and granted funds by the European Union to formulate policies for medical practice and research.

Objective: Oesophageal atresia (OA) is a major anomaly of varying severity. The complexity of surgical correction highly depends on the gap length of missing oesophagus and the presence of a distal fistula. The aim of this study was to identify antenatal sonographic findings associated with presence of a distal fistula and type of surgical repair METHODS: Prenatal medical records of neonates postnatally diagnosed with OA were reviewed.

Following low incidence of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, we noted a resurgence in hospitalised children in spring/summer 2021 following relaxation of public health measures. We compared this outbreak to previous autumn/winter seasons. We found higher weekly case numbers and incidence rates, more cases from urban neighbourhoods with lower socioeconomic status, and similar clinical presentation and severity.

Background: Acute otitis media (AOM) is a common cause for antibiotic prescription. Most guidelines endorse abstaining from immediate antibiotic treatment ('watchful waiting', WW) in mild-moderate episodes. We studied adherence rates to the latest AOM guidelines (2013), in terms of antibiotic type and prescription options.

Equitable research collaborations benefit the quality and relevance of global otolaryngology-head and neck surgery research. However, analyses of existing global health literature have shown disproportionate representation by foreign authors. To avert this inequity and improve global otolaryngology-head and neck surgery research, we propose a framework that emphasizes local representation and capacity building in research.

Background: Various prognostic models for mortality prediction following ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) have been developed over the past two decades. Our group has previously demonstrated that machine learning (ML)-based models can outperform known risk scores for 30-day mortality post-STEMI. The study aimed to redevelop an ML-based random forest prediction model for 30-day mortality post-STEMI and externally validate it on a large cohort.

Background: We aimed to describe the characteristics and in-hospital outcomes of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients during the Covid-19 era.
Methods: We conducted a prospective, multicenter study involving 13 intensive cardiac care units, to evaluate consecutive STEMI patients admitted throughout an 8-week period during the Covid-19 outbreak. These patients were compared with consecutive STEMI patients admitted during the corresponding period in 2018 who had been prospectively documented in the Israeli bi-annual National Acute Coronary Syndrome Survey.

Previous studies assessing SL's role in paediatric populations are sparse and are mainly limited to case reports. Present the clinical characteristics consistent with SL infections and its putative role as a pathogen in the paediatric population.

Objectives: To assess the added value of third trimester fetal brain MRI, performed in one tertiary referral center, in cases of isolated ventriculomegaly as established by a dedicated multiplanar neurosonography.
Methods: Fetal brain MRI scans performed in a single tertiary center during a 3-year period were assessed for possible inclusion. Only cases diagnosed with ventriculomegaly without additional findings in a neurosonography preceding the MRI were included.

A 35 year old patient, who had a successful surgical repair of coarctation of the aorta in early childhood, was referred for investigation regarding the cause for resistant hypertension. He underwent a full workup which was negative. Due to elevated renin levels his medications were altered with corresponding normalization of the renin levels.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIntroduction: The phenomenon of "masked hypertension" is a diagnostic challenge for physicians. The renal resistance index is a radiological index that expresses damage to the renal blood vessels. The literature regarding the relationship between the renal resistance index and primary kidney disease (as a cause of hypertension) or kidney disease as a result of hypertension is low and limited.

Objective: To study time trends in all-cause acute otitis media (AOM) burden by calculating incidence rates of AOM episodes and recurrent acute otitis media (rAOM) cases in highly immunized pediatric population during the pre- and post-pneumococcal conjugated vaccine (PCV) years.
Study Design: In this population-based study, AOM episodes and rAOM cases were identified in Clalit Health Services-insured Israeli children aged 0-10 years between 2005 and 2018 by using a data-sharing platform. Because a near-sequential implementation of PCV-7/PCV-13 occurred within a 1-year period (2009/2010), we compared AOM visits before (2005-July 2009) and after (August 2009-2018) the introduction of PCVs.
