As modern vehicles continue to evolve, advanced technologies are integrated to enhance the driving experience. A key enabler of this advancement is the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus, which facilitates seamless communication between vehicle components. Despite its widespread adoption, the CAN bus was not designed with security as a priority, making it vulnerable to various attacks.

Background: It is known that being the adult child of a parent with an alcohol use disorder (ACoA) can confer a wide variety of increased health and psychological risks, including higher rates of anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms. Additionally, ACoAs are at greater risk of developing alcohol/substance use disorders (AUDs/SUDs) than individuals from families without a history of AUDs.
Methods: ACoA individuals with risky hazardous alcohol use ( = 14) and those not engaged in hazardous use ( = 14) were compared to a group of healthy controls.

The thickness loss caused by corrosion is a vital factor that threatens the health of shell structures. It is significant to perform a non-destructive quantitative evaluation of corrosion-thinning defects in plate structures. Based on the laser ultrasonic guided wavefield scanning technology, this paper proposes an instantaneous wavenumber multi-shot fusion method, which improves the performance of the instantaneous wavenumber imaging method.

Background: There are numerous communication barriers between family caregivers and providers of people living with dementia, which can pose challenges to caregiving and clinical decision-making. To address these barriers, a new web and mobile-enabled app, called CareHeroes, was developed, which promotes the collection and secured sharing of clinical information between caregivers and providers. It also provides caregiver support and education.

While skeletal remains are known for their resilience and often serve as the final source of information for unidentified human remains (UHRs), the traditional downstream processing of these samples is challenging due to their low template nature, DNA degradation, and the presence of PCR inhibitors, typically resulting in limited probative information. To address this issue, advanced genotyping methods can be explored to retrieve additional genetic information from these challenging samples to maximize investigative leads. Therefore, this study investigated the effectiveness of three advanced genotyping methods and assessed their suitability with compromised skeletal samples: 1) targeted next generation sequencing (NGS) of both STRs and SNPs using the ForenSeq® DNA Signature Prep chemistry, 2) targeted NGS of SNPs using the ForenSeq® Kintelligence kit, and 3) SNP genotyping using a microarray via the Infinium Global Screening Array.

These protocols describe a detailed method to determine the DNA damage and F-actin and microtubule defects of metaphase II oocytes caused by hexavalent chromium, Cr(VI), an endocrine disrupting chemical (EDC). The protocol provides systematic steps to determine protein expression encoded by pluripotency proteins such as Oct4, Nanog, and Cdx2 during early embryonic development. Occupational or environmental exposure to EDCs has significantly increased infertility in both men and women.

Background: As Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) education is increasingly incorporated in undergraduate medical education (UME), evaluation of the effectiveness of various ultrasound-related curricula is a developing field. The Extended Focused Assessment with Sonography (EFAST) is a POCUS exam widely used in emergency medicine. This project examines third-year osteopathic medical (OMS III) students' perceptions of the impact of a focused introduction to EFAST training curriculum on their performance ability and utilization of EFAST during third-year clinical rotations.

Aging is a multifactorial biological process characterized by a decline in physiological function and increasing susceptibility to various diseases, including malignancies and gastrointestinal disorders. Helicobacter pylori () infection is highly prevalent among older adults, particularly those in institutionalized settings, contributing to conditions such as atrophic gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, and gastric carcinoma. This review examines the intricate interplay between aging, gastrointestinal changes, and pathogenesis.

Objective: A single-center retrospective cohort study was conducted to identify potential risk factors that lead to increased incidence of intravascular coagulum (IC) observed in clinical practice using polidocanol endovenous microfoam (PEM 1%, Varithena [polidocanol injectable microfoam], Boston Scientific, Marlborough, Mass).
Methods: Patients ( = 119) who received polidocanol endovenous microfoam (PEM) treatment for chronic venous insufficiency between December 2021 and January 2024 at a private outpatient vascular surgery clinic were observed to identify potential risk factors in the development of IC. The patients were stratified into two groups: IC ( = 16) versus non-IC ( = 103).

Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) is a multisensory experience most often associated with feelings of relaxation and altered consciousness, elicited by stimuli which include whispering, repetitive movements, and close personal attention. Since 2015, ASMR research has grown rapidly, spanning disciplines from neuroscience to media studies but lacking a collaborative or interdisciplinary approach. To build a cohesive and connected structure for ASMR research moving forwards, a modified Delphi study was conducted with ASMR experts, practitioners, community members, and researchers from various disciplines.

Aggressive chemicals intended for cleaning pools or unclogging drains contain high concentrations of dangerous compounds, leading to their nefarious use in dissolving human remains in some criminal cases. The use of these readily accessible household cleaners to destroy human remains and hide evidence of a crime presents a considerable challenge for human identification. However, research on the success of recovering DNA from such remains is limited.

It is common for forensic evaluators to use assessment instruments in risk assessment evaluations. This study examines whether different evaluators use instrument results the same way when coming to conclusions about risk for sexual recidivism in Sexually Violent Predator (SVP) evaluations. Three evaluators who each used both the Static-99R and Psychopathy Checklist-Revised in more than 60 SVP evaluations (Total = 338) provided data for the study.

Nutritional metals (NM) are essential for neurodevelopment and cognitive performance during growth. Nevertheless, epidemiological evidence regarding the associations between NM and brain function remains understudied, particularly among adolescents. Therefore, the objective of this pilot study was to examine the effects of NM biomarkers such as iron (Fe), selenium (Se), zinc (Zn), magnesium (Mg), and copper (Cu) on neurobehavioral functions among a group of rural Bangladeshi adolescents.

LoRa networks, widely adopted for low-power, long-range communication in IoT applications, face critical security concerns as radio-frequency transmissions are increasingly vulnerable to tampering. This paper addresses the dual challenges of privacy-preserving detection of tampered transmissions and the identification of unknown attacks in LoRa-based IoT networks. Leveraging Federated Learning (FL), our approach enables the detection of tampered RF transmissions while safeguarding sensitive IoT data, as FL allows model training on distributed devices without sharing raw data.

Brain removal during a gross anatomy course in medical school serves multiple purposes. It allows for the teaching of cranial vault anatomy, as well as the external brain, cranial nerves, and cerebral vasculature. Techniques to remove the brain while preserving these delicate structures generally damage the overlying anatomy of the dura and suboccipital triangle.

Chemoreception and recognition of specific prey are important sensory modalities for optimizing foraging success in snakes. Field observations suggest that cottonmouths are generalists, despite the specific epithet of the species () suggesting a fish prey preference. Because chemo-recognition of specific prey may reveal interesting evolutionary context for foraging strategy and if prey preference is either genetically or environmentally controlled, we investigated the prey cue preference of three experimental groups of (Northern Cottonmouths) with different diet histories.
