Introduction: Endoscopic approaches for skull base pathologies are increasingly being performed, and the subsequent complications, especially in the long term, have also been partially clarified. However, there is no information on the effects of endoscopic endonasal skull base surgeries (EESBS) in children on odor and facial development in parallel with long-term development. Objective: The management of prolonged seizures (PS) and seizure clusters (SC) is impeded by the lack of international, evidence-based guidance. We aimed to develop expert recommendations regarding consensus definitions of PS, SC, and treatment goals to prevent progression to higher-level emergencies such as status epilepticus (SE).

Methods: An expert working group, comprising 12 epileptologists, neurologists, and pharmacologists from Europe and North America, used a modified Delphi consensus methodology to develop and anonymously vote on statements.

Background: In recent years, it has been determined that SOT sensitivity is insufficient in patients who develop vestibular compensation and therefore the Head Shake Sensory Organization Test (HS-SOT) has been developed.

Research Question: How differs the balance performance of healthy adults that is tested with HS-SOT according to age and test planes? What is the test-retest reliability level of the HS-SOT in three planes?

Methods: Our prospective study, which has a methodological research design, included 80 participants divided into three groups by age range (Group 1: 20-39 years (n = 30); Group 2: 40-49 years (n = 30) and Group 3: 50-64 years (n = 20)). SOT and HSSOT ( yaw, pitch, roll) were performed to all participants.

: Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare disease in adults, and it is even uncommon in pediatric populations, affecting only 1-2 people per million. A LCH located in the frontal sinus is exceptionally unusual. We present a case of LCH located in the far lateral of the frontal sinus and discuss management as well as surgical techniques to control this far lateral frontal sinus lesion.

Emmetropization is affected by the temporal parameters of visual stimulation and the spectral composition of light, as well as by autonomic innervation. The goal of the current experiments is to test the hypothesis that different types of visual stimulation interact with ocular innervation in the process of emmetropization. For that, selective lesions of the autonomic nervous system were performed in chickens: involving transection of parasympathetic input to the eye from either the ciliary ganglion, innervating accommodation and pupil responses (CGX; n = 32), or pterygopalatine ganglion, innervating choroidal blood vessels and cornea (PPGX; n = 26).

Methods: The study included 47 patients with SSc and 44 healthy controls. Audiometric, tympanometric, and otoacoustic emission measurements were applied to both groups.

Objective: To measure the global impact of COVID-19 pandemic on volumes of IV thrombolysis (IVT), IVT transfers, and stroke hospitalizations over 4 months at the height of the pandemic (March 1 to June 30, 2020) compared with 2 control 4-month periods.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional, observational, retrospective study across 6 continents, 70 countries, and 457 stroke centers. Diagnoses were identified by their ICD-10 codes or classifications in stroke databases.

 In pediatric patients, endoscopic transnasal surgery (ETNS) poses challenges because of the small size of the developing skull and narrow endonasal corridors.  This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of ETNS in children by assessing our experience of endoscopic skull base surgery.  All pediatric patients (  = 54) who were eligible for surgery using only the endonasal endoscopic approach at our tertiary center between 2012 and 2018 were included in this study.

Painful intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration is an age-related process characterized by reduced tissue osmolarity, increased catabolism of the extracellular matrix, and elevated levels of pro-inflammatory molecules. With the aging population and constantly rising treatment costs, it is of utmost importance to identify potential therapeutic targets and new pharmacological treatment strategies for low back pain. Transient receptor potential (TRP) channels are a family of Ca permeable cell membrane receptors, which can be activated by multitude of stimuli and have recently emerged as contributors to joint disease, but were not investigated closer in the IVD.

Endonasal endoscopic approach (EEA) has become a routine and effective method for the management of large skull base defects in adults and increasingly in older pediatric populations despite their challenging narrow transnasal corridors. To our knowledge, this is the first report in the literature of a large craniopharyngeal canal (CC) meningoencephalocele in a 6-month-old infant managed purely through EEA, also by utilizing a pedicled nasoseptal flap (PNF).

The European Position Paper on Rhinosinusitis and Nasal Polyps 2020 is the update of similar evidence based position papers published in 2005 and 2007 and 2012. The core objective of the EPOS2020 guideline is to provide revised, up-to-date and clear evidence-based recommendations and integrated care pathways in ARS and CRS. EPOS2020 provides an update on the literature published and studies undertaken in the eight years since the EPOS2012 position paper was published and addresses areas not extensively covered in EPOS2012 such as paediatric CRS and sinus surgery.

Spinal cord injury is characterized by initial neural tissue disruption that triggers secondary damage and extensive non-resolving inflammation, which aggravates loss of function and hinders recovery. The early onset of inflammation following traumatic spinal cord injury underscores the importance of acute intervention after the initial trauma. Injections of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) can reduce inflammation following spinal cord injury.

We identified novel compound heterozygous variants in a Japanese patient who had hyperlactacidemia, metabolic acidosis, hyperalaninemia, developmental delay, undescended testicle, and left ventricular noncompaction. The urinary organic acids profile revealed elevated levels of 3-MGA, and BN-PAGE/Western blotting analysis and ETC. activity confirmed complex V deficiency.

Background: The European Position Papers on Rhinosinusitis from 2005, 2007 and 2012 have had a measurable impact on the way this common condition with high impact on quality of life is managed around the world. EPOS2020 will be the latest iteration of the guideline, addressing new stakeholders and target users, presenting a summary of the latest literature and evolving treatment modalities, and formulating clear recommendations based on all available evidence.

Methodology: Based on the AGREE II framework, this article demonstrates how the EPOS2020 steering group will address six key areas to ensure consistency in quality and presentation of information in the latest rhinosinusitis clinical practice guideline: scope and purpose; stakeholder involvement; rigour of development; clarity of presentation; recommendations and applicability; editorial independence.

Background: There is an emerging view that music-related interventions (MuRI) may play an important role for youth with mental disorders. Here, we assessed the potential neuroendocrine (cortisol), immune (IgA) and psychological (mood state, health-related quality of life (HRQOL), well-being) efficacy of a brief program of MuRI (group singing versus group music listening) in children and adolescents with mental disorders in a clinical setting.

Methods: We performed this observational pilot study with 17 patients (aged 11-18; 11 female) admitted to the Department for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry/PMU Salzburg, Austria between March 2015 and April 2016.
