Water pollution is regarded as a dangerous problem that needs to be resolved right away. This is largely due to the positive correlation between the increase in global population and waste production, especially food waste. Hydrogel beads based on sodium alginate (Alg) and pomegranate fruit peels (PP) were developed for the adsorption of Safranin O dye (SO) in aqueous solutions.

Cactus has shown great capabilities as a bio coagulant/flocculent in the treatment of wastewater and as a factor for sustainable development of the environment, due to its abundance and non-toxicity for human health. This has encouraged the present study based on the design of experiments to optimize the two operating factors: the bio coagulant dosage and initial pH. The effect of these considered factors on turbidity and chemical oxygen demand (COD) reduction performances was investigated to treat sewage wastewater from plants by the coagulation/flocculation process using the response surface methodology (RSM) based on a central composite faced design (CCFD).

The results of this work showed that UV/IO oxidation process supplies good performance in the degradation of light green SF yellowish (LGSFY) dye in deionized water. This process generated reactive iodine radicals that make the degradation much faster than the sole UV irradiation. The assistance of UV-irradiation by 10 mM of iodate increased the LGSFY removal after 10 min from 36% to 90% for C = 10 mg/L and from 18% to 85% for C = 20 mg/L.
