Background: Tick-borne infections, including tsutsugamushi disease, Japanese spotted fever, and severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS), are prevalent in East Asia with varying geographic distribution and seasonality. This study aimed to investigate the differences in the characteristics among endemic areas for contracting each infection.

Methods: We conducted an ecologic study in Japan, using data from a nationwide inpatient database and publicly available geospatial data.

Myopathic Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (mEDS) is a subtype of EDS that is caused by abnormalities in COL12A1. Up-to-date, 24 patients from 15 families with mEDS have been reported, with 14 families showing inheritance in an autosomal dominant manner and one family in an autosomal recessive manner. Background: It may be difficult to define what would constitute an abnormal spinal sagittal alignment. The same degree of malalignment may be found both in patients with pain and disability and in asymptomatic individuals. This study focuses on elderly farmers who characteristically have a kyphotic spine, in addition to local residents.

Article Synopsis
  • The study is a retrospective multicenter observational analysis focused on mechanical complications (MCs) in older patients who underwent correction surgeries for adult spinal deformity (ASD), involving 230 patients with an average age of 72.2 years.
  • The research findings showed that 45% of the patients experienced MCs, with higher age correlating with increased risk, and specific radiographic parameters such as global tilt and kyphosis influencing the incidence of complications.
  • Key conclusions highlighted that older age, greater postoperative global tilt, and higher thoracolumbar kyphosis are significant predictors of mechanical complications following surgery, although overall alignment scores did not significantly relate to complication rates.

Background: Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) are classified as carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) and non-CPE; the majority of CPE in Japan produce IMP carbapenemase.

Objectives: We evaluated the clinico-epidemiological and microbiological information and effects of IMP-type carbapenemase production in CRE.

Methods: Patients with isolations of CRE (MICs of meropenem ≥2 mg/L, imipenem ≥2 mg/L or cefmetazole ≥64 mg/L) from August 2016 to March 2018 were included.

We treated a 64-year-old man for rectal cancer with direct invasion to the seminal vesicles and no distant metastases by complete resection with laparoscopy and transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS). We inserted the TAMIS device into the anal canal to above the anorectal ring and dissected to prostate level. High ligation of the inferior mesenteric artery and vein was performed by standard medial laparoscopy.

Background: Prior reports have revealed that complete revascularization (CR) by percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) decreased ischemic events. However, little is known about the efficacy of CR using PCI in elderly patients with multi-vessel coronary artery disease (CAD). We evaluated the 1-year effectiveness of CR-PCI in elderly patients (≥75years old) with multi-vessel CAD.
