α-Ketoglutarate-dependent non-haem iron (αKG-NHFe) enzymes play a crucial role in natural product biosynthesis, and in some cases exhibiting multifunctional catalysis capability. This study focuses on αKG-NHFe enzyme FtmOx1, which catalyzes endoperoxidation, dealkylation, and alcohol oxidation reactions in verruculogen biosynthesis. We explore the hypothesis that the conformational dynamics of the active site Y224 confer the multifunctional activities of FtmOx1-catalysis.

Introduction: Infection with liver flukes (Opisthorchis viverrini) is partly attributed to their ability to thrive in sub-basin habitats, causing the intermediate host to remain within the watershed system throughout the year. It is crucial to conduct spatial monitoring of fluke infection at a small basin analysis scale as it helps in studying the spatial factors influencing these infections. The number of infected individuals was obtained from local authorities, converted into a percentage, and visually represented as raster data through a heat map.

This study involved two series of independent trials that investigated the storage temperature and time of raw fish to eliminate metacercarial infection in Thai pickled fish. A total of 330 healthy silver barb fishes (30-day posthatch) were infected with cercariae at an inoculation ratio of 50 cercariae/fish. After infection, the fish was reared for 3 months.

The family Cyprinidae is the largest freshwater fish group with 377 genera and over 3,000 described species. However, this group of fish has very limited cytogenetics and advanced molecular cytogenetics information. Therefore, in this study the karyotypes and other chromosomal characteristics of 15 species in the tribe Systomini (Cyprininae) were examined using Ag-NOR staining along with fluorescence in situ hybridization (5S and 18S rDNA).

Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) exhibits a heightened incidence in regions with a high prevalence of Opisthorchis viverrini infection, with previous studies suggesting an association with diabetes mellitus (DM). Our study aimed to investigate the spatial distribution of CCA in relation to O. viverrini infection and DM within high-risk populations in Northeast Thailand.

Land snails were collected for the project 'Conserving Myanmar's Karst Biodiversity' from the limestone karsts in Mon, Kayin, and Shan states and in the regions of Tanintharyi and Mandalay between 2015 and 2017, through cooperation with Fauna and Flora International (FFI) and the Forestry Department of Myanmar. Here, we report on a portion of the collection, and list 17 species from seven genera of the Hypselostomatidae microsnails. Three new species from two genera are described as Tongkerd & Panha, , Tongkerd & Panha, , and Tongkerd & Panha, All new species are known only from the type locality in Shan State () and Kayin State ().

(De Man, 1911), a translucent freshwater prawn has a wide distribution range throughout mainland Southeast Asia. A high morphological variation and genetic divergence between different geographical populations in Thailand have peculiarly extended the uncertainty of species boundaries and blended confusingly with several species. To clarify these circumstances, broad sample examinations of the morphological variation, including topotype specimens, and phylogenetic reconstruction based on the concatenated mitochondrial dataset (16s rRNA and COI genes) were performed.

The emergence of the COVID-19 situation has become a global issue due to the lack of effective antiviral drugs for treatment. Flavonoids are a class of plant secondary metabolites that have antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2 through inhibition of the main protease (3CL). In this study, 22 flavonoids obtained from natural sources and semisynthetic approaches were investigated for their inhibitory activity against SARS-CoV-2 3CL, along with cytotoxicity on Vero cells.

Mucin plays a crucial role in safeguarding mucosal tissues by obstructing the translocation of microorganisms. Mucosal tissue-dwelling parasites must devise a strategy to surmount this mucin barrier in order to establish colonization. In a recent discovery, it was observed that the liver fluke Opisthorchis viverrini secretes two mucinases, namely Ov-M60-like-1 and Ov-M60-like-2.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by cognitive impairment and neuronal death. Fifteen flavonoids from were evaluated for the multifunctional effect against AD pathogenesis, including butyrylcholine esterase (BuChE) inhibition, anti-amyloid beta (Aβ) aggregation and neuroprotection against hydrogen peroxide (HO) toxicity in differentiated human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cell. To understand the mechanism and structure-activity relationship, binding interactions between flavonoids and the BuChE and Aβ were investigated .

Purpose: Pediculosis capitis, commonly known as head lice infestation, represents a significant health 26 problem for school children worldwide. Repeated and long-term usages of highly toxic pediculicides have resulted in the development of increased levels of resistance and do not kill louse eggs. Alternative pediculicides, such as herbal products, have recently been proposed for the treatment of head lice infestation, thereby decreasing toxicity.

Here, the karyotype and chromosomal characteristics of (Smith, 1945) and (Smith, 1931) were examined using conventional, nucleolus organizing regions (NORs) and molecular cytogenetic protocols. The diploid chromosome number (2n) of was 50, the fundamental number (FN) was equal to 62, and the karyotype displayed 8m + 4sm + 38a with NORs located at the centromeric and telomeric positions of the short arms of chromosome pairs 1 and 2, respectively.

Background And Aim: The risk factors for cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) are opisthorchiasis and the intake of a combination of nitroso compounds through the consumption of traditionally fermented fish, which is very popular in areas where liver flukes are endemic. The incidence of CCA remains high because this cultural habit of rural people has been altered. Therefore, decreasing nitrate and nitrite concentrations in fermented fish are an alternative approach to reducing the risk of CCA.
