Background: Occupational cholangiocarcinoma is associated with exposure to organic solvents, such as dichloromethane (DCM) and 1,2-dichloropropane (DCP). This report describes a case of occupational cholangiocarcinoma detected through regularly imaging following the discovery of elevated serum γ-glutamyl trans peptidase (γ-GTP) levels revealed during regular checkup.
Case Presentation: A 43-year-old man who had been working in a printing company with 15 years of exposure to organic solvents presented to our hospital owing to abnormalities found during a routine checkup.

Background: Extra-capillary hypercellularity is a common finding in crescentic glomerulonephritis (GN) and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). In diabetic nephropathy (DN), extra-capillary hypercellularity is often observed as a finding of complications such as IgA nephropathy or microscopic polyangiitis superimposed on DN. Objectives: We previously reported, based on a multicenter randomized-control study, that the efficacy of intra-articular injections of hyaluronic acid (IA-HA) was not inferior to that of oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA). However, the molecular effects on the pathophysiology of knee OA remain unclear. C-terminal telopeptides of type II collagen (CTX-II) is reported to primarily originate from the interface between articular cartilage and subchondral bone, which is a site of potential remodeling in OA.

Aim: Despite the growing interest in sarcopenia in clinical medicine, there is little evidence to support the association between muscle strength and functional prognosis in patients with osteoporotic vertebral fractures. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of low handgrip strength (HGS) on functional outcomes in older patients with osteoporotic vertebral fractures.
Methods: A prospective cohort study was performed between 2017 and 2019 on consecutive patients with conservatively treated vertebral compression fractures who were newly admitted for post-acute rehabilitation.

Objectives: Because most severely ill patients with COVID-19 in our hospital showed zinc deficiency, we aimed to examine the relationship between the patient's serum zinc level and severe cases of COVID-19.
Methods: Serum zinc <70 μg/dL was defined as the criterion for hypozincemia, and patients continuously with serum zinc <70 μg/dL were classified in the hypozincemia cohort. To evaluate whether hypozincemia could be a predictive factor for a critical illness of COVID-19, we performed a multivariate analysis by employing logistic regression analysis.

We conducted a multicenter, randomized, patient- and assessor-blinded, sham-controlled trial to investigate the efficacy of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) of the primary motor cortex (M1) in patients with neuropathic pain (NP). Patients were randomly assigned to receive 5 daily sessions of active or sham rTMS of M1 corresponding to the part of the body experiencing the worst pain (500 pulses per session at 5 Hz). Responders were invited to enroll in an open-label continuous trial involving 4 weekly sessions of active rTMS.

Objectives: Abnormal swallowing or dysphagia is a potentially fatal symptom in Parkinson's disease (PD) and is characterized by frequent silent aspiration, which is an unrecognized risk for aspiration pneumonia. While the effects of oral levodopa on swallowing functions remain controversial, several small-scale studies have reported that rotigotine transdermal patch seems effective. The different effects between levodopa and rotigotine may be attributed to continuous dopaminergic stimulation (CDS), however, the absence of direct comparative evidence precludes conclusion.

Background: Anatomic variants of the biliary tree present challenges to surgical management during laparoscopic cholecystectomy and affect perioperative outcomes. An aberrant right hepatic duct connecting into the cystic duct is a practically important variation because of the susceptibility to serious postoperative refractory bile leakage. We report a successful case of laparoscopic cholecystectomy in the aberrant right hepatic duct of a patient diagnosed with chronic cystitis.

Material And Methods: In this study, 14 amblyopic patients and 10 healthy volunteers were enrolled. Under non-mydriatic conditions, fixation tests were performed directly using a fixation ophthalmoscope and indirectly using spectral-domain OCT.

Venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO) is used not only support gas transfer of patients suffering from respiratory failure, but also to manage hypoxic patients with critical airway obstruction during various procedures. We present a case in which we electively used VV-ECMO to facilitate tube placement and tracheal biopsy in a 67-year-old female with critical tracheal stenosis. The patient was transferred to our hospital for a surgical treatment after emergent tracheostomy for postoperative management of cerebral hemorrhage in right putamen.

Methods: Sporadic ALS in Western countries is frequently associated with noncoding repeat expansions in the gene. Spinocerebellar ataxia type 8 (SCA8) is another noncoding repeat disease caused by expanded CTA/CTG repeats in the gene.

(1) Background: Arteriosclerosis is associated with high levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. -methylated catechins in "Benifuuki" green tea are expected to reduce cholesterol levels, although there is limited research regarding this topic; (2) Methods: This trial evaluated 159 healthy volunteers who were randomized to receive ice cream containing a high-dose of "Benifuuki" extract including 676 mg of catechins (group H), a low-dose of "Benifuuki" extract including 322 mg of catechins (group L), or no "Benifuuki" extract (group C). Each group consumed ice cream (with or without extract) daily for 12 weeks, and their lipid-related parameters were compared; (3) Results: A significant reduction in the level of lectin-like oxidized LDL receptor-1 ligand containing ApoB (LAB) was detected in group H, compared to groups L and C.

Spinocerebellar ataxia type 8 (SCA8) is a rare autosomal dominant neurodegenerative disease caused by expanded CTA/CTG repeats in the ATXN8OS gene. Many patients had pure cerebellar ataxia, while some had parkinsonism, both without causal explanation. We analyzed the ATXN8OS gene in 150 Japanese patients with ataxia and 76 patients with Parkinson's disease or related disorders.

Purpose: The Japan Adult Leukemia Study Group (JALSG) AML201 protocols are regimens for remission induction and consolidation chemotherapy of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and have been widely accepted in Japan since 2001. Management of infectious complications during chemotherapy has a key role in the supportive care of AML patients.
Methods: By using case report forms collected in December 2001 and December 2005, we retrospectively analyzed the infectious complications in adult patients treated by using the JALSG AML201 protocols against AML (excluding promyelocytic leukemia).
