Background: Thermal damage may lead to inflammation of the peeled mucosal surface during endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD).
Aim: To determine the effect of Joule heat on the onset of post-ESD electrocoagulation syndrome (PECS).
Methods: In this prospective study, PECS was characterized by in-hospital fever (white blood cell count: ≥ 10000 μ/L or body temperature ≥ 37.

Objective: This study assessed the real-world safety and efficacy of coil embolization during endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) for prophylactic endoleak prevention or as a reintervention for endoleak repair, using the Cerenovus family of coils (Cerenovus, Irvine, CA, USA).
Methods: This was a multicenter, retrospective cohort study of consecutive patients who underwent embolization of branching arteries during EVAR of an AAA or as a reintervention for endoleak repair, using Cerenovus coils between January 2017 and December 2021 in Japan. The primary outcome was 30-day reintervention-free survival, defined as cardiovascular mortality or any complication requiring reintervention within 30 days post procedure.

Background: Provisional single stenting strategy (PSS) is a default strategy for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of unprotected left main distal bifurcation lesions (ULMD). Previous study reported that a bifurcation angle change (BAC) between end diastole and systole was associated with outcomes after PCI with double stent strategy (DSS) for ULMD. However, there are no data comparing outcomes after PCI with PSS versus DSS according the degree of BAC.

Purpose: To evaluate the robustness of the latest periodically rotated overlapping parallel lines with enhanced reconstruction (PROPELLER) technology from each vendor against head movements and to investigate their characteristics for effective clinical use.
Methods: Using a phantom simulating the T2-weighted image of the human brain, images were acquired with devices from CANON MEDICAL SYSTEMS (Tochigi, Japan; hereinafter "Canon"), GE HealthCare (Chicago, IL, USA; hereinafter "GE"), Philips (Amsterdam, Netherlands), and Siemens Healthineers (Forchheim, Germany; hereinafter "SIEMENS"). The head motion patterns were divided into rotation angle dependency (single rotation and multiple rotations) and rotation frequency dependency and evaluated using structural similarity (SSIM).

Background: Severe obesity greatly influences the difficulty of colorectal cancer surgery and has been reported to prolong operative time, increase the rate of laparotomy, and elevate increase postoperative complications. We investigated the efficacy of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) for preoperative weight loss to ensure safe colorectal cancer surgery.
Case Presentation: A 51 year-old female with a body mass index of 43.

Objectives: This study was conducted to verify the effectiveness of Anterior Support Screw (AS2) for unstable femoral trochanteric fractures.
Design: A multicenter, prospective, randomized controlled trial SETTING: This study was conducted across 15 academic medical centers in Japan PATIENTS/PARTICIPANTS: We enrolled 240 cases of femoral trochanteric fractures with posterior crushing and intramedullary displacement of proximal bone fragments across 15 institutions in Japan.
Intervention: All patients were subjected to a reduction in which the anterior cortex was brought into contact.

Unlabelled: We report a case of a 63-year-old woman diagnosed with vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (vEDS) who survived two prophylactic surgeries for the dilatation of a thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm. She initially developed acute type B aortic dissection at the age of 44 years. Five years later, her dissected descending aorta was enlarged to 54 mm; thus, the descending aorta was replaced as the first surgery.

Objectives: The present study assessed the late results of the operation, which consisted of the construction of a stentless mitral valve using autologous pericardium and valve implantation.
Methods: Between 2011 and 2018, among 1617 consecutive patients who underwent mitral valve operation at our institution, 15 adult patients (0.9%) with unrepairable mitral valves who wished to avoid conventional mitral valve replacement underwent this operation.

Low body weight and advanced age are among the best predictors of osteoporosis. Osteoporosis Self-Assessment Tool (OST) values are calculated by a simple formula [(body weight in kilograms - age in years) × 0.2] to identify patients at increased risk of osteoporosis.

Background: Clear cell sarcoma (CCS) is a very rare disease and one with a very poor prognosis. Furthermore, its occurrence in the heart is very rare and past reports are scarce.
Case Summary: A 33-year-old man who had undergone left arm amputation due to CCS came to the hospital because a positron emission tomography computed tomography (PET-CT) four years post-amputation showed an accumulation in the heart.

Purpose: To retrospectively evaluate the diagnostic potential of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based features and radiomics analysis (RA)-based features for discriminating ovarian clear cell carcinoma (CCC) from endometrioid carcinoma (EC).
Materials And Methods: Thirty-five patients with 40 ECs and 42 patients with 43 CCCs who underwent pretherapeutic MRI examinations between 2011 and 2022 were enrolled. MRI-based features of the two groups were compared.
Background: International consensus on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and emergency cardiovascular care science and treatment recommendations (CoSTR) have reported updates on CPR maneuvers every 5 years since 2000. However, few national population-based studies have investigated the comprehensive effectiveness of those updates for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest due to shockable rhythms. The primary objective of the present study was to determine whether CPR based on CoSTR 2005 or 2010 was associated with improved outcomes in Japan, as compared with CPR based on Guidelines 2000.

Aims: Transradial intervention (TRI) for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is used to reduce periprocedural complications. However, its effectiveness and safety for patients on dialysis are not well established. We aimed to investigate the association of TRI with in-hospital complications in dialysis patients undergoing PCI.

Background: Aortoesophageal fistula (AEF) is a rare but typically life-threatening condition. Although several treatment strategies exist, including conservative treatment with intraluminal stent graft and open thoracic aortic replacement, the overall outcome remains poor, ranging from 16 to 39%. Furthermore, esophageal reconstruction methods vary between hospitals.

Background: Retrosternal gastric tube reconstruction is a common surgical technique for managing esophageal cancer, but it complicates acute type A aortic dissection repair and raises concerns about gastric tube damage.
Case Presentation: A 73-year-old female, who underwent esophagectomy with retrosternal gastric tube reconstruction 6 months ago for esophageal cancer, presented with severe chest pain. Acute type A aortic dissection was confirmed by contrast-enhanced computed tomography, and emergency hemiarch replacement through a median sternotomy was performed, preserving the gastric tube without injury.
