Aim: Fish oil is associated with decreased arteriosclerosis, cardiovascular disease and the prevention of cellular aging. Most studies of n-3 PUFA (polyunsaturated fatty acid) have been conducted in patients under 80 years of age, and there are few studies of subjects ≥80 years of age. This study investigated the relationship between eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) or arachidonic acid (AA) and arteriosclerosis in elderly patients ≥80 years of age.

Objective: To determine dermoscopic findings of alopecia areata (AA) from a large-scale study that can be used as clinical indicators of disease.
Methods: Dermoscopic examination of areas of hair loss on the scalp of 300 Asian patients with AA was performed using a DermLite II pro, which can block light reflection from the skin surface without immersion gels. Using the Spearman rank-order correlation coefficient by rank test, correlations between the incidence of each dermoscopic finding and the severity of disease and disease activity were examined.

Familial cylindromatosis is a rare dominantly inherited disease characterized by the development of multiple benign tumours of the skin appendages, including cylindromas, trichoepitheliomas and spiradenomas. The gene responsible was positionally cloned recently, and was designated CYLD. We describe a family with cylindromatosis, in which affected individuals have an inherited R758X nonsense mutation of CYLD.
