Colorectal cancer (CRC) resulting from chronic inflammation is a crucial issue in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Although many reports established that intestinal resident CX3CR1 macrophages play an essential role in suppressing intestinal inflammation, their function in colitis-related CRC remains unclear. In this study, we found that colonic CX3CR1 macrophages, which were positive for MHC-II, F4/80 and CD319, promoted colitis-associated CRC.

Background: Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) and autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD) are major genetic polycystic kidney diseases that can progress to end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). Longitudinal data on the clinical characteristics associated with clinical outcomes in polycystic kidney disease (PKD), including the development of ESKD and cardiovascular disease (CVD) are lacking in Japan. To address this unmet need the authors are establishing a novel, web-based, Nationwide Cohort Registry Study-the Japanese Registry of PKD (JRP).

Article Synopsis
  • This multicenter prospective study investigated how central sensitization (CS) affects outcomes in patients undergoing spinal surgery for lumbar disc herniation (LDH).
  • It included 100 patients, evaluating CS using the Central Sensitization Inventory (CSI) and various clinical outcome assessments (COAs) before and after surgery.
  • Results showed that while higher preoperative CSI scores correlated with worse preoperative outcomes, all patients experienced significant improvement in outcomes after surgery, regardless of their CS severity.

Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is the most common hereditary cystic kidney disease, with patients often having a positive family history that is characterized by a similar phenotype. However, in atypical cases, particularly those in which family history is unclear, a differential diagnosis between ADPKD and other cystic kidney diseases is important. When diagnosing ADPKD, cystic kidney diseases that can easily be excluded using clinical information include: multiple simple renal cysts, acquired cystic kidney disease (ACKD), multilocular renal cyst/multilocular cystic nephroma/polycystic nephroma, multicystic kidney/multicystic dysplastic kidney (MCDK), and unilateral renal cystic disease (URCD).

Our goal was to compare the treatment outcomes of open-abdominal radical hysterectomy (O-RH) and total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLRH) with vaginal cuff creation and without using a uterine manipulator in stage IB1-B2 (tumor size < 4 cm) cervical cancer cases. In this retrospective multicenter analysis, 94 cervical cancer stage IB1-B2 patients who underwent O-RH or TLRH in six hospitals in Japan between September 2016 and July 2020 were included; 36 patients underwent TLRH. Propensity score matching was performed because the tumor diameter was large, and positive cases of lymph node metastases were included in the O-RH group due to selection bias.
