Lymph node recurrence is common in patients with breast cancer, and breast surgeons often diagnose it based solely on computed tomography (CT) or fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT). In this case report, we present a patient with breast cancer having a false positive lymph node detected by FDG-PET/CT, which was later identified as a sarcoid reaction through thoracoscopic surgery. This pathological diagnosis allowed the patient to avoid unnecessary long-term cancer therapies, such as chemotherapy and hormone therapy.

The relationship between cancer stem cells (CSCs) in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1)/programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) remains unclear. Therefore, the present study aimed to clarify the association between the CD44v3/CD24 immunophenotype of CSCs in OSCC and PD-L1/PD-1 co-expression, and to assess the prognostic effect of CSCs in terms of immune checkpoint molecules. Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue samples and clinicopathological data from 168 patients with OSCC were retrospectively retrieved.

Background Trigeminal-facial nerve communications have been recognized for over 100 years. More specifically, the mental nerve (MN) and marginal mandibular branch of the facial nerve (MMb) communication have been studied but the termination of these branches remains unclear. Therefore, we aim to classify the anatomical communication between the MN and MMb by its course.

Varied branching patterns of the pulmonary veins are widely known; however, the common trunk of the right pulmonary veins is sparsely described. We report the details of a right lower lobectomy in a patient with a common trunk of the right pulmonary veins. Besides an attentive interpretation of computed tomography images, 3-dimensional reconstruction aids in the preoperative recognition of this anomaly.

Myxofibrosarcoma is a soft tissue sarcoma that occurs in elderly patients. Primary myxofibrosarcoma rarely arises in the mesentery; this is the fourth known case of myxofibrosarcoma presenting as a mesenteric tumor. A 62-year-old male with a mesenteric myxofibrosarcoma presented with an abdominal mass; his symptoms were frequent urination and a sense of abdominal pressure.

A 16-year-old male with language disorders, such as motor aphasia or mutism, was hospitalized on day 4 after the onset of fever. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) on admission revealed lesions of the corpus callosum and brain white matter. Brain single photon emission computed tomography (99mTc-ethyl cysteinate dimer) on day 7 shows hypoperfusion (with right dominance) of bilateral upper parietal region.

Introduction: When the management of an anterior mediastinal tumor requires general anesthesia, airway narrowing and obstruction may occur secondary to muscle relaxation.
Presentation Of Cases: Two men (ages, 15 and 36 years) presented with a giant anterior mediastinal tumor and central airway obstruction. We used Dumon stents to effectively secure the airway in both patients.

Background: Lung function in the late postoperative phase after pulmonary lobectomy is insufficiently characterized. This study aimed to appraise lung function in the late postoperative phase according to vital capacity (VC) and forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) in patients who underwent pulmonary lobectomy.
Methods: Pre- and postoperative VC and FEV1 were reviewed in 112 patients who underwent pulmonary lobectomy.
Primary malignant pericardial sarcomatoid mesothelioma (PMPSM) is an extremely rare tumor with poor prognosis. We present an autopsy case in an 80-year-old man admitted for heart failure after one month of treatment at an outpatient clinic. He died three months after symptom onset.

Eminectomy which is one of the popular and most effective treatments for habitual temporomandibular joint luxation was first described by Myrhaug in 1951. There are few reports which described eminectomy being performed under local anesthesia and conscious sedation. We present a case series of habitual luxation of the TMJ treated by eminectomy performed under local anesthesia and conscious sedation and general anesthesia.

A 27-year-old female was referred to our hospital with a chief complaint of removal of an impacted right mandibular third molar. Panoramic radiography showed two small circular radiolucencies on the right mandibular ramus. Computed tomography revealed that one of the radiolucencies was an accessory foramen located lateral to the mandibular ramus, and the other radiolucency was an accessory foramen located medial to the ramus; it was also connected to the mylohyoid groove.

Since uterine cervical cancer is regarded as a radiosensive tumor, ionizing radiation is the most frequently used treatment modality against the disease. Although the crucial end-point is radiation-induced cell death, the tumors are not equally sensitive to radiation. Determining the criteria that may be used to predict tumor radiosensitivity is of importance; however, little success has been achieved thus far.

Background: Negative effects of dehydration on the human brain and cognitive function have been reported. In this study, we examined the effects of dehydration on pain thresholds and cortical activations in response to pain, compared with rehydration with an oral rehydration solution (ORS) by functional magnetic resonance imaging.
Methods: Five healthy adult men were subjected to dehydration and rehydration on 2 different days.

Background: The existing dogma that the former term ovarian "germinal epithelium" resulted from a mistaken belief that it could give rise to new germ cells is now strongly challenged.
Discussion: Two years ago, a research group of the University of Tennessee led by Antonin Bukovsky successfully demonstrated the oogenic process from the human ovarian covering epithelium now commonly called the ovarian surface epithelium. They showed the new oocyte with zona pellucida and granulosa cells, both originated from the surface epithelium arising from mesenchymal cells in the tunica albuginea, and stressed that the human ovary could form primary follicles throughout the reproductive period.

We describe here a case of primary effusion lymphoma that occurred in a 78-year-old woman. She was successively treated with prednisolone but died 15 months after the diagnosis of primary effusion lymphoma. The immunohistochemistry revealed the neoplastic cells to be CD19(+), CD20(+), CD21(+), Sm-Ig(+), and HLA-DR(+).
