Objectives: This study investigated the transition patterns of activities of daily living (ADL) status based on the Functional Independence Measure (FIM) motor and cognitive items in patients who experienced subacute stroke.
Methods: In this single-site, retrospective investigation, 1592 FIM samples were collected during the hospitalization of 373 stroke patients who were admitted between April 2018 and March 2020. FIM item levels were transformed from seven to three (FIM1-2, Complete Dependence; FIM3-5, Modified Dependence; FIM6-7, Independence).

Objective: Based on the whole-body energy metabolism and insulin action, the difference between increased excretion of carbohydrate in urine by SGLT2i and reduced same amount of oral carbohydrate intake are scarce. This study aimed to compare the effect of carbohydrate availability with reduced oral intake (carbohydrate-restricted isocaloric diet: CRIC diet) or lost in urine, as urinary glucosuria on sodium/glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor (SGLT2i) treatment, focus on the insulin requirement and the macronutrient oxidation within insulin treated type 2 diabetes.
Methods: This is randomized 3-arm open-label prospective study.

Objectives: Using Functional Independence Measure (FIM) records, this study used latent class analysis (LCA) to clarify the structure of activities of daily living (ADL) status in patients following stroke.
Methods: In this retrospective, single-center study, we extracted the medical records of patients with stroke who were admitted to a rehabilitation hospital in Japan between April 2018 and March 2020. LCA was used to determine classes of ADL status based on response patterns in FIM items converted from the original seven levels to three levels: Complete Dependence, FIM1-2; Modified Dependence, FIM3-5; Independence, FIM6-7.

This study investigates whether reflection on occupational experience during assessment and intervention would help clients express their occupational needs in goal setting. Sixty-two participants who were not able to express their occupational needs in the initial assessment process were either allocated to the occupational experience group who undertook occupation-based assessment and intervention, or the physical training group who engaged in physical training only. The ratio of participants who expressed their occupational needs in each group was 67% (30/45) and 12% (2/17) respectively.

Delivery following uterus transplantation (UTx)-an approach for treating uterine factor infertility-has not been reported in nonhuman primate models. Here, six female major histocompatibility complex (MHC)-defined cynomolgus macaques that underwent allogeneic UTx were evaluated. Antithymocyte globulin and rituximab were administered to induce immunosuppression and a triple maintenance regimen was used.

Uterus transplantation (UTx) is now a treatment for women with uterine factor infertility to have a child. However, UTx is still largely at the experimental stage, and many medical issues remain unsolved. Therefore, adequate studies in large animals including non-human primates are required for validation of these issues.

Uterus transplantation (UTx) is a potential option for women with uterine factor infertility to have a child. The clinical features indicating irreversible rejection of the uterus are unknown. In our experimental series of allogeneic UTx in cynomolgus macaques, six female macaques were retrospectively examined, which were unresponsive to treatment with immunosuppressants (i.

Uterus transplantation (UTx) is an option for women with uterine factor infertility to have a child, but is still in the experimental stage. Therefore, allogeneic animal models of UTx are required for resolution of clinical issues. In this study, long-term outcomes were evaluated in four recipients (cases 1-4) after allogeneic UTx in cynomolgus macaques.

Background: Open completion gastrectomy (OCG) has been selected to treat remnant gastric cancer (RGC) due to severe adhesions and difficulty recognizing anatomical orientation after primary gastrectomy. In general, elderly individuals' physiological reserves gradually decrease. Moreover, elderly patients (EPs) often have multiple complicating factors (i.

It has been reported that it is possible to observe transient changes in resting-state functional connectivity (FC) in the attention networks of healthy adults during treatment with prism adaptation. by using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) (see "Prism adaptation changes resting-state functional connectivity in the dorsal stream of visual attention networks in healthy adults: A fMRI study" (Tsujimoto et al., 2018) [1].

Unilateral spatial neglect (USN) can be defined as a failure to orient to contra-lesional stimuli in the absence of either sensory or motor defects. Although the behavioral and clinical effects of prism adaptation (PA) are widely accepted, its underlying mechanisms are still controversial. However, recent neuroimaging and neurophysiological studies support the idea that PA affects the visual attention and sensorimotor networks including in the parietal cortex and cerebellum.

Aneurysm of autogenous arteriovenous fistula is a common complication in patients receiving hemodialysis. We present a novel method for repair of a case of aneurysm of arteriovenous fistula resulting from stenosis. A 52-year-old woman presented with aneurysm formation of the left upper arm arteriovenous fistula, with related numbness in the left hand.

Background: Benign esophageal tumors are relatively rare, and a neurofibroma in the esophagus is extremely rare. Dysphagia is the most common clinical manifestation in patients with esophageal neurofibroma, and no cases of giant esophageal neurofibroma with severe tracheal stenosis have been reported.
Case Presentation: A 73-year-old woman presented with shortness of breath, and computed tomography scan exhibited a giant mediastinal tumor causing severe tracheal stenosis.

Introduction: The incidence of remnant gastric cancer is increasing because of past use of subtotal gastrectomy to treat peptic ulcer and increased survival rates after radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer. The feasibility and advantages of laparoscopic total gastrectomy (LTG) for remnant gastric cancer remain unclear. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the safety, feasibility, and clinical short-term outcomes of LTG for remnant gastric cancer.

Objective: Venous thromboembolism can be prevented by physical prophylaxis, such as active ankle exercise (AAE), in addition to pharmacological treatment. However, the relationship between the intensity of triceps surae (TS) exercise and venous flow is unclear, and physical thromboprophylaxis has not been established for patients with leg cast immobilization. The goals of the current study were to clarify the degree of intensity of TS isotonic contraction required to increase peak blood velocity (PV) in the superficial femoral vein to higher than that at no resistance and to determine if TS isometric contraction can increase PV.

No study has reported an animal model of uterus transplantation (UTx) using cynomolgus macaques. We aimed to establish a surgical technique of allogeneic UTx assuming the recovery of a uterus from a deceased donor in cynomolgus macaques. Four allogeneic UTxs were performed in female cynomolgus macaques.

A 22-year-old man, a boxer, presented with acute right forearm pain after striking a punch mitt. The patient had sustained a diaphyseal fracture of the right radius 19 months previously and was treated by minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis using a titanium reconstruction plate. Radiography revealed stress fractures beneath a proximal screw hole of the plate.

Pain is defined as an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or it is described in terms of such damage. Additionally, activity induced in the nociceptor and nociceptive pathways by a noxious stimulus is not considered pain, which is always a psychological state (IASP). Aδ- and C-fibers play important roles in conducting pain to the central nervous system.

A 62-year-old man with a 20-year history of diabetes mellitus presented with appetite loss was found and a large niveau was found in the right subphrenic space on abdominal X-ray film. Ultrasonography and computed tomography showed a large hepatic abscess with gas formation and cholecystitis with a gallstone. Klebsiella pneumoniae was isolated from the abscess, which communicated with the bile duct and was treated with antibiotics and percutaneous drainage.
