DOATS score and DOAT score, COVID-19 progression prediction tools we have developed, utilize clinical information such as presence of diabetes/obesity (DO), age (A), body temperature (T), and oxygen saturation (S). They showed good predictive power, but their scoring calculation was slightly complex, leading us to develop simplified versions. This report discusses the ability of the simplified versions to assess deterioration risk in unvaccinated, mild/moderate COVID-19 patients aged <65 years.

Objectives: The large-cell Niti-S stent is useful for multiple stenting in patients with malignant hilar biliary obstruction (MHBO). Recently, a novel uncovered self-expandable metallic stent (USEMS) (a Niti-S large-cell SR slim delivery system) was developed. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of this USEMS slim delivery system in MHBO patients.

Recently, the endoscopic placement of self-expanding metallicstents (SEMSs)has become widespread for the treatment of acute malignant colorectal obstruction. This study was designed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of 22 patients with obstructive colorectal cancer who underwent SEMS placement as a bridge to surgery(BTS)from January 2012 to December 2015. The subjects comprised 15 men and 7 women with a mean age of 68.

Background: Erlotinib is an epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor, which is an effective treatment for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), especially those harboring activating EGFR mutations. A previous phase III trial suggested that patients with EGFR wild-type (EGFR-wt) NSCLC or elderly patients with disease progression after cytotoxic chemotherapy might benefit from erlotinib monotherapy. However, few studies have prospectively evaluated the efficacy and safety of second- or third-line erlotinib monotherapy for elderly patients with EGFR-wt advanced or recurrent NSCLC.

The authors describe 2 cases of symptomatic spinal cord compression due to metastatic prostatic cancer. Both cases showed marked improvement of cord compression after hormone therapy, and decompressive laminectomy was not necessary. The management of prostatic cancer patients with symptomatic spinal cord compression is discussed.

Structural studies were performed on a renal specimen removed from a patient with milk of calcium in a calyceal diverticulum. Infrared spectroscopy revealed that stones consisted of crystals of calcium oxalate. On scanning electron microscopy and X-ray microanalysis, the intact surface of the stones was composed of weddellite and the fractured face of the stones showed calcium phosphate.
