Background: Treatment optimization is mandatory in psychiatric diseases and the use of population pharmacokinetics (popPK) models through model informed precision dosing (MIPD) has the potential to improve patient medical care. In this perspective, meta-modelling methods could provide popPK models with improved predictive performances and most of covariates of interest. The aims of this study were to develop meta-models of clozapine and lithium, assess their predictability and propose optimized dosing regimens for both drugs.

The question of screening organ donors for hepatitis e virus: a case report of transmission by kidney transplantation in France and a review of the literature.

Virol J

June 2024

Centre de Néphrologie Et Transplantation Rénale, Aix Marseille Université, Publique Hôpitaux de Marseille, Hôpital Conception, 147 Boulevard Baille, 13005, Marseille, France.

Background: Hepatitis E is a potentially serious infection in organ recipients, with an estimated two-thirds of cases becoming chronic, and with a subsequent risk of cirrhosis and death. In Europe, transmission occurs most often through the consumption of raw or undercooked pork, more rarely through blood transfusion, but also after solid organ transplantation. Here we describe a case of Hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection transmitted following kidney transplantation and review the literature describing cases of HEV infection transmitted by solid organ transplantation.

Introduction: Articular traumatic bone loss is a severe condition with heterogeneous outcomes, often necessitating complex technical solutions and posing challenges in managing both bone and cartilage loss. Thus, some surgeons have used a technique of osteochondral autograft using a rib to fix an articular bone loss to manage both of these tissue losses.

Presentation Of Case: We present the case of a 25-years-old patient, who had a complex open elbow injury.

Background: Satisfactory treatment is often lacking for spasticity, a highly prevalent motor disorder in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI). Low concentrations of riluzole potently reduce the persistent sodium current, the post-SCI increase in which contributes to spasticity. The repurposing of this drug may therefore constitute a useful potential therapeutic option for relieving SCI patients suffering from chronic traumatic spasticity.

August 2022

Aix Marseille University, Inserm, IRD, Sciences Economiques & Sociales de la Santé & Traitement de l'Information Médicale (SESSTIM), and Institut Sciences de la Santé Publique d'Aix-Marseille (ISSPAM), Marseille, France.

Overweight is increasingly prevalent in people living with HIV (PLWH), and is a high risk factor for metabolic disorders in this population. PLWH co-infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) have a higher risk of metabolic disorders than their mono-infected counterparts. The putative relationship between cannabis use and body weight found in the general population has never been documented in HIV-HCV co-infected people.

Background: Therapeutic drug monitoring and treatment optimization of clozapine are recommended, owing to its narrow therapeutic range and pharmacokinetic (PK) variability. This study aims to assess the clinical applicability of published population PK models by testing their predictive performance in an external data set and to determine the effectiveness of Bayesian forecasting (BF) for clozapine treatment optimization.

Methods: Available models of clozapine were identified, and their predictive performance was determined using an external data set (53 patients, 151 samples).

While social inequality is widely recognised as being a risk factor for COVID-19 infection or serious forms of the disease, many questions still remain concerning the perception of hazard and protective measures by the most vulnerable populations. This mixed-methods study aimed (1) to describe the self-perceived health and protective measures linked to COVID-19 of homeless people in one of the largest and poorest cities in France, and (2) to assess which skills and resources they used to address the COVID-19 pandemic. The quantitative survey addressed these questions among a sample of 995 homeless people living either on the streets, in homeless shelters or in squats/slums, whereas the qualitative survey was constructed from 14 homeless interviewees.

Police custody is detention in response to a suspicion of crime. A person in custody has the right to be examined by a physician, who is responsible for determining whether the person's medical condition allows him/her to continue to be held in detention. However, there is no consensus on the definition of compatibility of the mental state with custody.

Brain SPECT perfusion and PET metabolism as discordant biomarkers in major depressive disorder.

EJNMMI Res

October 2020

Nuclear Medicine Department, APHM, CNRS, Centrale Marseille, Institut Fresnel, Timone Hospital, CERIMED, Aix Marseille University, Marseille, France.

Background: Brain SPECT perfusion and PET metabolism have been, most often interchangeably, proposed to study the underlying pathological process in major depressive disorder (MDD). The objective of this study was to specify similarities and inconsistencies between these two biomarkers according to global characteristics of the disease. We conducted a retrospective study in 16 patients suffering from treatment-resistant MDD who underwent, during the same current episode, a cerebral perfusion SPECT with Tc-HMPAO and a metabolic PET with F-FDG.

The puzzle of quality of life in schizophrenia: putting the pieces together with the FACE-SZ cohort.

Psychol Med

June 2022

University Paris Saclay - UVSQ, Health Sciences department, EA 4047 HANDIReSP, Laboratory for clinical and public health research on psychological, cognitive and motor disability, Versailles, France.

Background: The determinants of quality of life (QoL) in schizophrenia are largely debated, mainly due to methodological discrepancies and divergence about the concepts concerned. As most studies have investigated bi- or tri-variate models, a multivariate model accounting for simultaneous potential mediations is necessary to have a comprehensive view of the determinants of QOL. We sought to estimate the associations between cognitive reserve, cognition, functioning, insight, depression, schizophrenic symptoms, and QoL in schizophrenia and their potential mediation relationships.
