Haploinsufficiency of the short stature homeobox-containing (SHOX) gene leads to a phenotypic spectrum ranging from Leri-Weill dyschondrosteosis (LWD) to SHOX-deficient short stature. SHOX nullizygosity leads to Langer mesomelic dysplasia. Pathogenic variants can include whole or partial gene deletions or duplications, point mutations within the coding sequence, and deletions of upstream and downstream regulatory elements.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated factors linked to positive adjustment in long-term childhood cancer survivors, focusing on well-being, health status, social support, and emotion regulation strategies.
  • It analyzed data from 92 survivors, revealing that high well-being was associated with better health and greater social support, as well as more effective emotion regulation, particularly emotional processing.
  • The findings suggest that reducing emotional suppression while enhancing social support can significantly improve well-being in these individuals, marking potential targets for future supportive interventions.

Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are associated with specific dietary habits, including limited food selection and gastrointestinal problems, resulting in an altered gut microbiota. Autistic patients have an elevated abundance of certain gut bacteria associated with increased oxidative stress in the gastrointestinal tract. Probiotic supplementation has been shown to decrease oxidative stress in a simulated gut model, but the antioxidant effects of probiotics on the oxidative stress of the gut in autistic patients have not been directly studied.

Introduction: Whether a late distribution of food intake impacts obesity through increased energy intake remains uncertain and the behavioural characterization of late eating needs to be further investigated. The first objective of this study was to assess the associations between late eating and body mass index (BMI) and total energy intake (TEI), and whether TEI mediates the association between late eating and BMI. The second objective was to assess the associations between late eating and eating behaviour traits or psychosocial factors and whether eating behaviour traits mediate the association between late eating and TEI.

A pediatric cancer diagnosis can have a significant impact on the quality of life (QOL) of the child. Diagnosis and treatment impact caregiver anxiety/depression symptoms and family functioning, and these in turn may influence child QOL. However, there has been limited longitudinal examination of the impact of both caregiver anxiety/depression symptoms and family functioning on youth QOL at specific points during the early diagnosis and treatment period.
