Post-acute phase and sequelae management of epidermal necrolysis: an international, multidisciplinary DELPHI-based consensus.

Orphanet J Rare Dis

February 2023

ToxiTEN Group, European Reference Network for Rare Skin Diseases, Paris, France.

Article Synopsis
  • Long-term complications from Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are common and can significantly impact patients' lives, but there is no clear agreement on how to manage these complications.
  • An international DELPHI study was conducted with healthcare professionals to develop a standardized approach to managing SJS/TEN sequelae through a survey assessing various treatment aspects.
  • The study successfully reached a consensus on all proposed management statements, suggesting guidelines for multidisciplinary follow-up that can assist physicians in caring for affected patients.

Background: Chronic erosive gingivitis, also called desquamative gingivitis, defines a clinical picture that can be generated by several inflammatory and immune diseases. Pathology is therefore essential for the differential diagnosis. However, when the gingival lesion is initial, exclusive or predominant, selecting the biopsy site and protocol may be problematic due to tissue fragility.

Background: This experimental study provides a qualitative description and the morpho-structural features of the fusions taking place in the thoracic spine between prepubertal age and skeletal maturity. There is a lack of informations regarding the influence of partial or total dorso-thoracic vertebral arthrodesis on the development of the thoracic cage as well as its potential effects on different intra and extra-thoracic organs. This study admits the hypothesis that vertebral arthrodesis may have influence on other body areas and so, it intends to verify the possible secondary involvement of other body parts, such as intervertebral discs, cervical and thoracic spinal ganglia, sternocostal cartilage, ovaries and lungs.

Oxytocin and bone status in men: analysis of the MINOS cohort.

Osteoporos Int

December 2015

INSERM UMR 1033, University of Lyon, Hospices Civils de Lyon, Lyon, France.

Unlabelled: Oxytocin, a neurohypophysial hormone, regulates bone metabolism in animal studies and postmenopausal women. In men, oxytocin is not associated with bone mineral density, bone turnover markers, or prevalent fractures, but weakly negatively with incident fragility fracture requiring further studies.

Introduction: We previously showed that serum oxytocin (OT) level is associated with bone mineral density (BMD) and bone turnover rate in postmenopausal women.

Animal study findings have revealed that individual fat depots are not functionally equivalent and have different embryonic origins depending on the anatomic location. Mouse bone regeneration studies have also shown that it is essential to match the Hox code of transplanted cells and host tissues to achieve correct repair. However, subcutaneous fat depots from any donor site are often used in autologous fat grafting.

Electronic address:

Several reports have demonstrated the inhibitory effect of metformin, a widely used drug in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, on the proliferation of many cancers including melanoma. Recently, it has been shown that metformin is able to modulate the cAMP level in the liver. As cAMP has a crucial role in melanin synthesis and skin pigmentation, we investigated the effect of metformin on melanogenesis both in vitro and in vivo.
