Improvement of hydrophysical properties and corrosion resistance of self-compacting concrete to the effects of alternate freezing-thawing and aggressive soils of Southern and Central Kazakhstan is of interest to a wide range of researchers from the side of practical application of the obtained results in construction practice. It is proposed to form a spatially reinforced fine crystalline structure of a cement matrix with the maximum dense packing by using a complex modifier (hyperplasticizer + polymer + microsilica + fibro fibers) in the composition of self-compacting concretes (SCCs). The introduction of the calculated amount of the above additives increases the operational reliability of the current SCC compositions, increasing the water resistance to W16, frost resistance to F = 500, increasing the compressive strength by 20%, and reducing the mass loss of samples during corrosion leaching to 50%.

Fetal hypoxia and maternal stress frequently culminate in neuropsychiatric afflictions in life. To replicate this condition, we employed a model of prenatal severe hypoxia (PSH) during days 14-16 of rat gestation. Subsequently, both control and PSH rats at 3 months old were subjected to episodes of inescapable stress to induce learned helplessness (LH).

We inferred the patterns of co-occurrence of flea species in compound (across all host species) and component (across conspecific hosts) communities from six regions of the world (Mongolia, Northwest Argentina, Argentinian Patagonia, West Siberia, Slovakia, and South Africa) using the novel eigenvector ellipsoid method. This method allows us to infer structural community patterns by comparing species' environmental requirements with the pattern of their co-occurrences. We asked whether: (a) communities are characterized by species segregation, nestedness, or modularity; (b) patterns detected by the novel method conform to the patterns identified by traditional methods that search for non-randomness in community structure; and (c) the pattern of flea species co-occurrences in component communities is associated with host species traits.

A diazo approach toward functionalized naphtho[1,2-]imidazole derivatives has been developed. It involved a new reaction of arylamidines with 2-(α-diazoacyl)-2-azirines giving 5-aryl-4-(α-diazoacyl)-1-imidazoles under mild conditions in good yields. The mechanism of annulation of azirines with amidines is discussed based on DFT calculations.

With the intensification of human activities, the amount of phosphorus (P)-containing waste has increased. When such waste is not recycled, P is released into the environment, leading to environmental issues such as the eutrophication of water bodies. In this study, based on the material flow analysis method, a P Waste Flow analysis model (P-WFA) was developed to analyze the P flow in the waste system of Poyang Lake, the largest freshwater lake in China.

This study investigates the observers' ability to monitor the ongoing cognitive processes of a partner who is implicitly learning an artificial grammar. Our hypothesis posits that learners experience metacognitive feelings as they attempt to apply their implicit knowledge, and that observers are capable of detecting and interpreting these feelings as cues of the learner's cognitive state. For instance, learners might encounter affective signals linked to cognitive conflicts and errors at different processing stages, which observers can construe as manifestations of the learner's cognitive dissonance.

The potential of acetylene is extremely high both in chemical industry and synthetic applications due to unsaturated nature and the smallest active C≡C unit. The production of many essential necessities is originated from acetylene; however, the formation of acetylene molecule requires a lot of energy. Currently, the access to acetylene is based on coal processing, methane reforming and calcium carbide hydrolysis.

is a widespread shell-less species of nudibranch molluscs, which has unique for Gastropoda skeletal elements - subepidermal calcite spicules. The general and fine morphology of the spicules, as well as their maturation process in ontogenesis, have been studied in detail by authors. The uniqueness of spicules lies in their intracellular formation and location under the ectodermal epithelium, which is more typical for deuterostomes.

The increased production of hormones by the tumor leads to catecholamine crises, which have a pathological effect on all organs and systems. In the primary diagnosis of pheochromocytomas, it is important to determine the level of the metabolite of catecholamines - metanephrines.

Currently, all pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma (PPGLs) are considered malignant due to metastatic potential. Consequently, PPGLs are divided into «metastatic» and «non-metastatic». Metastatic PPGLs can be with synchronous metastasis (metastases appear simultaneously with the identified primary tumor) or metachronous (metastases develop after removal of the primary tumor).

In X-ray structures of the isomorphic mer-[IrX(THT)(CNXyl)] (X=Cl 1, Br 2; THT=tetrahydrothiophene; Xyl=2,6-MeCH-) complexes, we revealed short intermolecular contacts between the C-atom of an isocyanide methyl group and halide ligands of another molecule. Geometrical consideration of the X-ray data and analysis of appropriate DFT studies allowed the attribution of these contacts to C⋅⋅⋅X-Ir (X=Cl, Br) tetrel bond. Specifically, through the application of DFT calculations and various theoretical models, the presence of tetrel bonding interactions was validated, and the contribution of the C⋅⋅⋅X-Ir interaction was assessed.

Malignant pleural effusion (MPE) is a manifestation of advanced cancer that requires a prompt and accurate diagnosis. Ultrasonography (US) and computed tomography (CT) are valuable imaging techniques for evaluating pleural effusions; however, their relative predictive ability for a malignant origin remains debatable. This prospective study aimed to compare chest US with CT findings as predictors of malignancy in patients with undiagnosed exudative pleural effusion.

The ureteral access sheath (UAS) has been a boon and a bane in flexible ureteroscopy (FURS), with its merits and demerits well established. Its design and dimensions were instrumental in reshaping the way flexible scopes were used and were key adjuncts to establishing retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) as a standard of care in the endourological management of renal stones. With the ever-changing landscape of RIRS over the decades shaped by technological advancements in lasers and flexible scopes, the UAS has also continuously evolved.

Photothermal conversion represents one crucial approach for solar energy harvesting and its exploitation as a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels; however, an efficient, cost-effective, and generalized approach to enhance the photothermal conversion processes is still missing. Herein, we develop a feasible and efficient photothermal conversion strategy that achieves simultaneous light and heat management using supported metal clusters and WSe interlayer toward enhanced CO hydrogenation photothermal catalysis. The interlayer can simultaneously reduce heat loss in the catalytic layer and improve light absorption, leading to an 8-fold higher CO conversion rate than the controls.
